Leggings under dresses

leolion1 · 29/07/2020 22:34

I've got a few summer dresses that are too short for bare legs, I used to wear them with leggings and not think twice about it but this year it seems a bit dated (probably was last year tbh and I didn't notice Grin)
What do people think? Are there any other alternatives as I'd like to get use out of the dresses but I strictly keep bare legs to midi length now!

I saw a lady earlier today in a short floral smock style dress over cropped distressed jeans. She looked good.

JorisBonson · 29/07/2020 22:41

Can you keep them for autumn / winter and wear them with thick tights and boots?

MissNotMrs · 29/07/2020 22:44

I honestly think anything goes rn. Do what makes you comfy and confident

Vargas · 29/07/2020 22:46

I used to do this too but now I think it looks dated, sorry! I've now moved to midi or maxi dresses.

itistiime · 29/07/2020 22:51

I still do it but it's massively dated.

RaininSummer · 29/07/2020 22:53

Bah. If you like the look then wear it. Anything goes.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/07/2020 22:53

I would save them for autumn with thick tights, chunky cardi on top, or polo neck underneath, and boots. I don’t love the leggings and dress look personally, but if it floats your boat, go for it.

Mothermorph · 29/07/2020 22:54

I've never been fashionable (not sure why I'm on style and beauty) so I dont care if its last year, 2008 or 2000, I just wear it anyway.i still wear leggings under denim shorts with flip flops if it's a bit chilly which is probably a huge no no from people with actual style!!😂

Solaran · 29/07/2020 22:57

It’s very dated IMO but still occasionally see it around. Agree tights and boots could work with those dresses later in the year.

Littlemeadow123 · 29/07/2020 22:58

I hate current fashion at the minute. Too many high street shops taking too much inspiration from love island. I just wear what I like. (I still wear leggings with dresses. Don't give a flying whatsit if the look is dated.)

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 29/07/2020 22:59

I quite like this look with cycling shorts and white trainers

I agree leggings and a short dress is dated.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 29/07/2020 22:59

You can wear it over loose cotton trousers instead, in an Indian style like this. I think that looks great if you get the colour/length etc right.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 29/07/2020 22:59

It's dated and it looks crap because all the dresses now are so long. I used to buy dresses that were mid thigh almost and they looked better with leggings and looked good with boots in winter. Now all dresses seem to be knee length or longer, even minis. I miss this look at it suited me!

CatBatCat · 29/07/2020 23:01

Another one here who still does it even if its dated. All my skirts are shorter as that's the length that looks good on me but I don't like bare legs. Leggings in the summer and tights in the winter.

Laufeythejust · 29/07/2020 23:02

I still wear this! Blush I struggle to get dresses in that I’m comfortable to wear tights as they all end up being so short on me, despite being advertised as knee length on the models. I don’t care though leggings are the comfiest things in the world.

Mothermorph · 29/07/2020 23:04

I would never wear jeans or loose trousers with a dress as I'm a shortie and I feel that would make me look even me bulky and be v unflattering.

Mothermorph · 29/07/2020 23:05

Even more!

longcoffeebreak · 29/07/2020 23:07

I'm too old to wear short dresses with bare legs (nearly 50) so trousers or leggings underneath seem like a solution

KingCatMeowInSpace · 29/07/2020 23:08

I use to wear this look a couple years ago but decided it looked dated and now wear shorter dresses with v tight stretchy jeans/jeggings and look so much better and not frumpy

Haggisfish · 29/07/2020 23:09

Meh. I wear tunics with leggings or trousers. Means I don’t show pants or bum when I bend over!

Voice0fReason · 29/07/2020 23:21

I wouldn't even occur to worry that some people might think it looks a bit dated!
I like it, it's comfy, I don't need other people's validation!

CucumberFacePot · 29/07/2020 23:25

I still wear short dresses with leggings. It might be dated but I still think it looks good on me so I don't care.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 29/07/2020 23:26

I still wear leggings with dresses/skirts and have done for years even before it came into fashion and will carry on with it out of fashion. Wear what makes you feel happy/comfortable.

Serialcatmum · 29/07/2020 23:29

Love a dress and leggings. I wear lovely Boden dresses and wear leggings and trainers with ribbon for laces for work every day. I’m 35. Couldn’t give 2 sh!ts if people think it’s dated. 🤣

StarlightLady · 30/07/2020 13:55

It’s not a look l like or would go for. But that is not so say someone else shouldn’t.
