Is this an okay outfit?

Liked the look of these jeans and this top. Or so I thought. Didn't realise from the way the jeans were folded and on the wrong rail, that they were ripped. Not sure if they look okay together, and more to the point, if they look okay on me. The jeans are Mom jeans, but are they too tight round my calves?

Thanks.

2nd outfit looks great. I don't like the top in the first pic.

dressedfordistress · 24/07/2020 20:10

@LadyCatStark I'm 38.

I suppose the jeans hold my stomach in a bit and then that first top undoes their good work a little.

Agree that the first outfit is not great. Second much better.

And it’s ditsy, not ditzy, when talking about a small-scale floral print!

Russell19 · 24/07/2020 21:05

@LadyCatStark

Oh my goodness, you look so much better in the second picture! (And I mean that nicely!) how old are you? The first outfit looks really frumpy and you look much younger in the second.
I thought this exactly! Liked the 1st outfit but on the 2nd pic it made you look so different (in a good way). Love the jeans OP Grin

2nd outfit is so much better, sorry but the guy if the top combined with the fit of the jeans in the first photo is a bit frumpy

imnottoofussed · 24/07/2020 21:23

Where are the jeans from?

dressedfordistress · 24/07/2020 21:32

@imnottoofussed New Look

I think they look good especially in the second photo but if you’re this worried about them I suspect you just won’t reach for them?
Where is the t shirt from?

dressedfordistress · 24/07/2020 21:37

@FrowningFlamingo River Island, about six months ago

We have similar figures. There’s issues with the floral top- mainly I think that the neckline is too high (high crew-neck styles make our boobs quite matronly), and the sheerness of the top makes it drape strangely.

Also consider a longer, slightly looser tee that you can tuck in the front? I feel the second outfit cuts you in half too abruptly. I know everyone does it, but in such contrasting colours I think it shortens our bodies and emphasises any pudgy bits unnecessarily.

Only you can know if ripped jeans are for you. Personally I think they only make sense on me if I’m painting the house. Some models suit the high-end versions, but I still find it looks strange with a full face of makeup. The jeans fit you well, that’s the main thing.

dressedfordistress · 24/07/2020 23:42

Thanks @Nitpickpicnic my tshirt is long, but tucked in. Maybe too tucked in.

Second outfit is fab! I’m not a fan of the flowery top but if you like it then it needs different bottoms and maybe heels. But keep the jeans, you can easily pull them off!

BuffaloMozzerella · 25/07/2020 00:09

I prefer the second pic too. The only thing I'm not sure about is in that pic it looks like the rips are above your knee caps rather than on them which looks weird to me.

BananaBMumma · 25/07/2020 00:16

Jeans are fab! And look great with the white T-shirt.

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/07/2020 03:16

The jeans are fine OP, just a normal pair of jeans. Mom jeans always look better with a tucked in or cropped style of top; I don't think the first top is doing a lot for you really but both just look like normal casual outfits that you'd see various people wearing out and about and not look twice at.

Sooverthemill · 25/07/2020 10:32

The jeans are fine, and you look fab in the second photo. You are a size 8? Honestly you can wear anything I think. Ripped jeans are fine if you don't go the whole biker route I think and just dress casually, like second pic

dressedfordistress · 25/07/2020 12:22

Usually an 8 or 10 depending on where I shop. But I'm not quite 5ft 2 and have a mum tum, so I very often feel quite dumpy. And I realise that I look it in picture 1.

Sooverthemill · 25/07/2020 12:52

@dressedfordistress okay. Can I give you a bit of a stern talking to?! You have a fab figure. Your body has made babies. It's supposed to be a little bit different from when you were 17. Almost 5'2 and gorgeous! I speak as 62 year old size 8/10 ( pushing it slightly weight wise currently due to lockdown overeating) and 5'1. Please don't spend your life doing yourself a disservice thinking you aren't perfect . You are lovely!

Incrediblytired · 25/07/2020 12:56

The jeans are nice and the second outfit is nice.

The overall first outfit doesn’t quite go.

Would you consider something with a lower neck line or more arm showed off? I feel like something mor strappy or v neck would be a winner with the jeans!

Incrediblytired · 25/07/2020 12:58

The first top might look nicer with black skinny jeans and heels/wedges

LaGoulueRevenue · 25/07/2020 13:48

I'm back to say I can't believe how much I disagree re the first top! It's parisienne and floaty, perfect casual end of summer wear. You certainly don't look 'dumpy' in it, I just don't think it's to others' taste that's all.

3rdNamechange · 25/07/2020 13:51

Second look is good , nice style jeans on you.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/07/2020 13:54

Agree that the first top might work with black skinnies. I think the problem is the combination of wishy washy colours, not great print, not great fabric and the shape all together:
print and shape in cotton or silk = fine
fabric and shape in plain or in less insipid colours/print = probably fine etc.
Personally, I don't love the colours or print, and suspect the fabric isn't very nice. I do like the shape.

dressedfordistress · 25/07/2020 15:53

I've taken back the floral top.

@Sooverthemill thank you. That's very kind and made me feel good in the jeans today.

dressedfordistress · 25/07/2020 16:22

Last time i will post about these jeans, I promise. Someone suggested strappy top and heels, so I've tried that.

Do you think I can dress them up okay, or should I stick to using them as casual wear?

Thanks.
