Trousers are Alix, size 8 (massive) rolled up. I really love them and totally recommend if any pop up again on JL

Thanks all for liking my top, despite the shit pics which really don't do it justice

Saurus72 · 21/07/2020 20:10

Oh my gawd - just bought this: www.johnlewis.com/toast-cotton-oxford-dress-chambray/p4925327

I keep thinking I’ve made my final order but apparently not. May be too voluminous, will have to see.

Spottyegg · 21/07/2020 20:31

Alix trousers on JL now!

Railingsohno · 21/07/2020 20:37

@faustina that’s lovely!

In terms of t shirts they had the white one with the blue stripe in the sale.

paintyhands · 21/07/2020 20:38

Does anyone have the oversized poplin shirt and could you tell me about sizing? I think I’d probably need a S which isn’t in stock ..

faustina · 21/07/2020 20:42

@paintyhands I returned that because it was really thin and see thru and looked a bit cheap

faustina · 21/07/2020 20:45

.. sizing, I think I had a small and it was pretty oversized

Laska2Meryls · 21/07/2020 20:46

Wow Toast on JL website, was just crazy stuff was disappearing before ones eyes there ..BUT hooray!! I got the Desert Alix in a 10 ! ... Which means that I can send my too big 12s back Smile

Spottyegg · 21/07/2020 20:47

Faustina how does the 8 in Alix compare to eg the 8 in Gabi trousers? I’m normally a fattish 10 in eg Jigsaw

Laska2Meryls · 21/07/2020 20:50

... I also got 3 pairs of pyjamas for my DGs ( .. they were in the basket as make weights for free postage ) I only needed one but thats ok I wasn't going to waste time refreshing my basket as at one point the Alix were oos and then they were back in.. I suppose someone else was trying to buy them at the same time . Was that any one here ?

paintyhands · 21/07/2020 20:54

Thanks @faustina - that’s good to know about the poplin shirt. I don’t really need it anyway, just getting a bit carried away with all the last minute sale dregs now I think!

Laska2Meryls · 21/07/2020 21:00

Spotty egg Alix come up big ...if you are a 10 , the 8 should fit, ... I am a 12 and the 12 are too big for me ( I would have given the 8 a go if that was all they had , but I think that the 10 will be ok on me maybe still a bit loose )

faustina · 21/07/2020 21:01

@Railingsohno - thank you!

@paintyhands I am sitting on my hands now - no-one needs as many clothes as I've ordered from John Lewis in the past month!

@Spottyegg my gabi trousers are a 6 and they're just a bit neater in fit than the Alix in 8 (JL didn't have them in 6). They are both really generously sized though - I honestly don't think you could go wrong with an 8

@Laska2Meryls - hooray!

faustina · 21/07/2020 21:03

@Spottyegg - they also really stretch once you've worn them for a few hours - this is why I'm having a dilemma about the workwear trousers because the 6 is snug but I'm thinking they might stretch out a bit

Laska2Meryls · 21/07/2020 21:06

Pyjamagate panic stations though! I shall need to send 2 pairs of those back ! 🤣🤣

Spottyegg · 21/07/2020 21:11

Thanks all, thanks to this thread I have a pair of the slate cotton linen pants in an XS (Alix not available), the blue cotton chambray dress, the blue linen jumper and a blue kaftan top (all 10s) heading to my local Waitrose to pick up. We will see how the pants fit, they look Alix-like in fit.

Moominmammaatsea · 21/07/2020 21:17

Wow! What a flurry of action and excitement!

I’ve had a day of reckoning today and have decided to keep the following items:

Seth linen shirt (adore this)
Poplin overshirt (a contentious one here but I love it and love the simplicity and luxurious thread count of the fabric)
Ivar indigo jacket (worn to death already)
Ikat skirt (ditto)
White linen boy T-shirt (very sheer but very pretty)
Ashley jeans (collected today from my Co-op and will be a very useful, if slightly boring, wardrobe staple)
Ash green cotton linen coat dress (biding my time till I give this beauty a twirl)
Faustina’s shirt (I’m sure it has another name but it will live on in my mind as the Faustina shirt)
Navy/parchment wool/cotton cropped sweater (already working hard to earn its keep as an essential accessory for this glorious summer!)
Jude trousers (they fit really surprisingly well and make me feel like a cross between Katharine Hepburn and a Land Girl)
And...I have two burnt red linen T-shirts due for collection tomorrow.

There will be several returns - including the beautiful Kado dress - but I’m delighted that I love everything I’ve bought, I can visualise them working hard for many years to come in my life and they were all bought in the JL 70 per cent off sale. Even better, no children were starved or households were bankrupted in the making of the new Moominmamma wardrobe. And my Hermes delivery driver will soon be able to retire to Necker Island! Grin

Plus, it’s been absolutely glorious during these unsettled times to bond with such a fabulous group of women over a fairly random, but extremely passionate, love for a niche brand of clothing. Fellow carrot-growing, lentil-weaving, Guardian-reading, ceramics-loving ladies, I salute you and thank you for the glimpses you’ve given me into your wardrobes and lives.

Laska2Meryls · 21/07/2020 21:17

Oh.. thats cool, it seems that you can cancel specific items in JL orders if you do it within 30mins .. so now only one pair of pyjamas coming with the Alix 👍

paintyhands · 21/07/2020 21:18

@Spottyegg I love the garment dyed linen kaftan top (if that’s the one you mean) - it’s so soft and easy to wear. I think it’s very flattering. I wish I’d got it in another colour.

faustina · 21/07/2020 21:36

@Moominmammaatsea - how lovely! I will also add this thread to my list of things that saw me through these very strange times. I was just thinking actually, if there is a second wave in the Autumn, I will dig out something new and lovely by Toast or Kin and I'm sure it'll cheer me up, even if I just wear it round the house

Please post pics of the shirt we share if you can - I'd love to see how it looks on you. Which size did you go for?

goldpendant · 21/07/2020 21:51

@Moominmammaatsea great post, I've come to strangely rely on you lovely lot and our shared love for online shopping. TOAST has made me feel homely through lockdown, which has helped me to get through it!

I am going to keep a close eye on the lovely turquoise pink check dress that's new in and buy it in the winter sale!

Laska2Meryls · 21/07/2020 22:03

Yes Moominmama Faustina Goldpendant and all.. I feel the same.. we must keep this up
... But what I want to know Moomin id how did you manage to describe me so utterly accurately? .. (Well apart from lentil weaving which will have to be a project if we lockdown again 😂)
Lets keep talking even if we are not madly buying though ..

Saurus72 · 21/07/2020 22:03

@Moominmammaatsea - that just about sums it all up Wink. Such a brilliant thread and who - seriously who - knew about the JL Toast sale being this good? I’m still kind of hanging on to see if I can get one of the khaki linen coat dresses at 70% off. Then all dreams would be fulfilled.

Laska2Meryls · 21/07/2020 22:05

I am not sure how JL do it, Saurus, especially as some of the sale stuff isnt actually in the current Toast sale...

Saurus72 · 21/07/2020 22:13

It is strange because other brands I like (Whistles for example) are priced exactly the same on JL as on the Whistles website, so I always thought that was their policy. Can’t imagine Toast are pleased about it. I just genuinely haven’t noticed such brilliant bargains as these before. Lucky us!
