She looks stunning, and so lovely that the dress and tiara was leant to her by the queen ?

Princess Beatrice's wedding dress, what do we think?

I am enjoying imagining Beatrice and Eugenie looking at Granny's dresses when small, and Beatrice saying "This one's beautiful, Granny, just like a wedding dress," and HM saying, well you can have it as your wedding dress when you get married, if you like. aaah!

I am also not keen on the sleeves but royal brides always have their shoulders covered.

I always think Kate wanted a strapless wedding dress but had to have the lace overlay . . . then in the evening she had a strapless one.

I like the idea of it very much, and it’s a lovely dress. I personally think that the alterations could have been better, particularly the sleeves. The way the straps have been left in the original position means that an extra piece of fabric was added to the sides of the straps and then the sleeves attached. So it is very obvious it’s a dress with straps with sleeves added, whereas repositioning the straps could have made it look less altered. Even on the Queen, the strap position is a tad frumpy. I think her gowns were often a bit like that, probably because she had quite a bust and a more glamorous décolletage like Princess Margaret wore was perhaps considered not quite the thing. Beatrice looks beautiful and very happy though, so I’m being picky.

I absolutely love it.
She probably had to have the sleeves for the church.

You can see the original straps on the dress. In my opinion that's more important than having fashionable sleeves. We can see how her granny wore it and how she's brought it up to date. Intelligent fashion from Beatrice, she who wore the toilet seat hat to William and Kate's wedding. Well done to her.

@mocktail

Here's the queen wearing it.
The queen looked stunning in it. Beatrice has managed to frumpify it by adding puff sleeves!
wivenbaskey · 20/07/2020 15:12

I liked it when I first saw it on Sunday but not so much now I've seen the additional pictures. She looked stunning and happy of course but - the overall proportions are wrong. The dress is too short with the tiara. The tiara isn't sitting straight and don't think the style of tiara suits her, it's too severe.

There's an absence of jewellery, I appreciate the detailing on the dress but without some earrings it looks like she was having a dry run in the dress. Her make up gives her a sepia look.

Overall the dress and tiara looked a little too costume-like

wivenbaskey · 20/07/2020 15:19

Her dress reminds me of Glinda the Good Witch for some reason.

That's it! I knew it felt costumey

Haworthia · 20/07/2020 16:22

I agree the tiara wasn’t quite right. It was too tall and clashed with the dress, which was - I can’t think of the right word - more understated/informal that traditional royal wedding gowns with huge trains etc.

So although I loved her dress, I think a smaller tiara (like the ones Kate and Meghan wore) would have looked better. But I think it was important to Beatrice to wear her Granny’s wedding tiara so you can’t blame her for that.

wivenbaskey · 20/07/2020 17:14

Agree with that @Haworthia. It was the ultimate accolade and one she deserved after the shit storm around her

Catawaul · 20/07/2020 17:38

Love it! I like that's it's so different from the usual white lacy dresses. Very classy.

Housewife2010 · 20/07/2020 18:02

I think she looks very pretty and different. It's such a nice change from all the strapless wedding dresses over the last fifteen years which never seem suitable for a church setting.

SuckingDieselFella · 20/07/2020 19:08

@wivenbaskey
There really is no pleasing some people. Confused

I very much doubt she cares what we think. As long as she's happy with it that's all that matters.

BobFleming · 20/07/2020 19:12

This thread is 'did you like her dress?' For honest opinions on the actual dress.

I can't understand why people feel the need to churn out the schmaltz - 'as long as she's happy...' like they can never have an opinion on anything lest it's not favourable.

paradyning · 20/07/2020 20:28

@EvilHerbivore it did have the band. Stewart Parvin did Zara's dress and the alterations on this one.

Umm, it was her wedding day. The bride's happiness is all that matters.

She won't give a flying whatsit that some person on the internet doesn't like her dress!

Beatrice isn't obliged to please me, only herself. I was just giving an answer to a question on an anonymous social media site to pass the time. I don't give a damn what people think of my choices, fashion or otherwise and neither will the Princess.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 21/07/2020 13:50

I thought the sleeves were added as a nod to her mum's wedding dress?
I prefer the dress as the Queen wore it, but she looked fabulous and happy.
I felt a bit sorry for her, that on the day so many women want to be a princess for a day and have a spangly fairy tale wedding. She as a 'blood princess ' as her father is always so keen to point out, didn't get one. Hope that makes Andrew feel like shit tbh.

I’m really glad I’m not the only one. If I see another strapless dress I’ll scream. High time they were consigned to Room 101.
sweetkitty · 21/07/2020 23:59

The only thing I didn’t like was the new hem, it was a different shade of white and didn’t go.

Yes, considering that she must have had some of the best seamstresses in the country at her disposal, the alterations aren't the greatest. I'd have thought that, as the dress is designed to be worn with a petticoat, they would have been better off having a layer underneath to add length (designed to be seen), instead of just attaching a band of non-matching fabric, the way my DM used to do if I outgrew my clothes.
paradyning · 22/07/2020 10:41

I think this is the look they were going for. It must be a trick in Parvin's bag

Princess Beatrice's wedding dress, what do we think?
CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 23/07/2020 13:26

I think it's a lovely idea but somehow it didn't quite translate right. It was a bit too short and looked a bit pantomimey. Having said that 10/10 for originality in upcycling granny's frock. Also made me wonder does the queen keep all her old dresses? she must have thousands!
