Suggest me a summery dress for forest ceremony!

We are having a tiny ceremony in the woods (!) end of this month with a handful close folk for our baby. Think christening but small size and in the middle of random forests amidst humongous trees, with fairy lights on a logpile house. Symbolic, non religious and quite cute really.... was initially planned for a hotel with lots of friends and food - but hey - thanks Covid.

Nonetheless - said baby is mine - and I am needing to find a dress for the day. First restriction : it’s got to be black. My entire wardrobe has long been black and I don’t plan to appear in a sudden new colour. Given that - what do you recommend? Need a size 12 and ideally something that is knee length/midi and covers upper arms.....

I like lace .....

I have a nice neck/décolletage I think to balance off the upper arms ....

It needs to be easy to move around in and suited for a forest! And for carrying a 5.5 month old around...

Have been looking at Next H and M Boden Mango Zara...

Sounds like a beautiful ceremony but OP...black and with sleeves does not suggest summery! How long sleeves? Can you take a short puffed sleeve for example? Or a butterfly?

Trinketsfor20 · 13/07/2020 07:39

Oh doesn’t have to be long - definitely above elbow.... I am not sure how much the upper arms are an issue in reality and how much in my head but arms have stretch marks and I hate them in pictures! I have black just below shoulder length hair which will be nicely twirly and curled down on the day - just don’t want blooming arms to ruin it all!

Ceremony will be video captured as my poor parents far far away in country of origin couldn’t travel (thanks pandemic) and recording it for them so the arms will haunt me for posterity:

Oh the arms ... the arms..... are all I can think of! Grin

What about a black broderie anglaise dress?

Fidgety31 · 13/07/2020 07:48

Lipsy in Next had some long and short sleeved black lace detail dresses a few months ago as I bought one. Not sure if they still sell them though .

Hi OP, sounds like a lovely ceremony, and much more special than yet another soulless hotel 'do'.

I love this dress

Also this one with a little summery colour in the embroidery

Or a longer more foresty version

Bit of a 60s vibe...

Thank you! What about any from this list -

Reiss www.reiss.com/p/short-sleeved-midi-dress-womens-lola-in-black/?_cclid=Google_Cj0KCQjw6ar4BRDnARIsAITGzlBE1He470_WExhUYi5CIQAJc0sLzD9GXAlEfhdiTEa8CBwOGJga5SUaAhCUEALw_wcB&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6ar4BRDnARIsAITGzlBE1He470_WExhUYi5CIQAJc0sLzD9GXAlEfhdiTEa8CBwOGJga5SUaAhCUEALw_wcB

Then this one doesn’t solve arms issue but is pretty - mango - shop.mango.com/gb/women/dresses-midi/lace-midi-dress_67074409.html?c=99&utm_term=670744091999006&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6ar4BRDnARIsAITGzlAU24DxdpOZT6hdpyvhwReNoBXN7FjMhfOtpDdfDHw2fw6Y5UNzboYaAvonEALw_wcB&mkwid=s_dm&pcrid=435033512381&slid&talla=19&pgrid=101447514379&ptaid=pla-296280525100&gclsrc=aw.ds

Then this from Debenhams but doesn’t solve arms www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_60514+FFN0086092_-1

Oh @Icedlatte I think you may have found it.... the forest embroidery black one.... I wish it was shorter as I’ve never worn maxi dresses but soooo tempted by it!

I like this one but not sure if it's your style. I've never bought from here so can't vouch for quality, but they came up on my Facebook and I thought they might suit you.

I love this but it doesn't solve the upper arms issue but gorgeous and nice neckline, midi etc.

WerkHorse · 13/07/2020 08:17

Bear in mind that forests are usually much cooler than the outside temperature. Not saying you will need a coat but if it's generally a cooler day you might need a shoulder covering.

I've been to a forest naming ceremony and it was lovely!

PAND0RA · 13/07/2020 08:19

You have To get one of the Monsoon dresses. They are perfect for the occasion.

Dryadia · 13/07/2020 08:19

Holy Clothing
holyclothing.com

I can spend hours just browsing their website. If I had the money, i'd replace my entire wardrobe.

you can also find some of their stuff on ebay.

I’ve just seen these posts and the minute baby naps I shall sit and peruse them all. You are all stars!! Thank you so much :)
