Recommendations for alternatives to Body Shop

Hi all, I wont be spending any more money with the Body Shop because of their recent tweets and online behaviour. I do love a lot of their products unfortunately. Can anyone recommend some alternatives to these products:

Peppermint Foot Lotion
Camomile Cleansing Balm
Strong smelling shower gels

Thanks!

Oh, and one more - Hemp Hand Protector. Best hand cream ever Sad

I used to use their hemp hand protein ripe but now I prefer Aveeno as it sinks in faster

Fidgety31 · 08/07/2020 11:29

Sorry should say hemp hand cream not protein ?!

I've been using Dr Organic and Manuka Doctor (available from Holland and Barratt)

Ajoor · 08/07/2020 11:33

L'Occitane and Rituals.

I think the Clinique Take the Day Off balm in comparable in performance and texture (also fragrance free). Korres shower gels are lovely and strong smelling. They do quite a few fruity numbers too, if those are the sort that you like from the Body Shop.

MrBennsshop · 08/07/2020 13:16

Why not try soap instead of shower gel? Less plastic too. L'occitane soap - verbena or honey harvest. And their almond hand cream, or Neutrogena or Aveeno are all great.

@Lottapianos sorry I can’t help with the answers to your questions but I do buy from Body Shop and am wondering what has out you off as I’m not on twitter so may have missed something? If you can share I’d be grateful - thanks!

In a nutshell, they have bought into the erasure of women by talking about 'people who have periods' and removing all reference to women from their website. They also sent a nasty sneering tweet to JK Rowling after she tweeted in support of women by saying that periods are a biological female function. They had hundreds of tweets from women saying how disgusted they were and promising to boycott their products, but have refused to back down. Dont know what they're thinking

I would also like a concise explanation about the MN Bodyshop hatred. A quick google hasn't told me very much.

I was going out to buy facewash the other day and DH suggested the Body Shop. "I thought we were boycotting them?" "Remind me why?" "They were horrible to JK Rowling" "Oh yeah. Fuck 'em. Go to Superdrug."

Unfortunately Superdrug's Tea Tree face wash was sold out so I still am facewash-less.

DH recommends the Dr Organic Tea Tree wash. His skin looks great! www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/dr-organic-skin-clear-deep-pore-face-wash-60014163?skuid=014163

I've been boycotting Body shop since before it was cool as I decided to stop supporting companies that use MLM. The peppermint foot scrub was a fave but i now just use a body scrub then slather in soap and glory heel genius for soothing minty-ness.

PerditaNitt · 09/07/2020 21:28

For shower gel, i recommend the Waitrose own brand grapefruit shower gel (I’m usually a soap person, but this is of the few shower gels I like - the fragrance is strong but not heavy, texture is good and it is incredibly cheap).

If you don’t mind a non peppermint scented foot cream, I’ve been using the Beauty Pie footopia and it is brilliant (currently out of stock, and bear in mind that you need to factor in the subscription cost).

Cleansing balm; eve lom if you’re flush. Aldi Liz Earle rip off or Superdrug vitamin E cleanser, are both great sensible priced alternatives. I found the latter two a bit milder on my skin, because eve lom sometimes makes me break out for a day.

Sod the body shop, with their misplaced virtue signalling and self righteousness.

CornishTiger · 09/07/2020 22:25

It’s tricky as the cleansing balm is so lovely.

I like Neals yard rose balm and Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm. However both are £££ in comparison.

I have a no7 one to try and temple spa in the beginning. Don’t know if any good though. A friend has already bought me another body shop balm too so I’ll use it up after those and see if anything appears to rival it.

MrBennsshop · 09/07/2020 22:30

If anyone used their Skin Defence factor 50, can I recommend Biore Watery Essence instead, or La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra Light. I've always used Body Shop powder blusher, so if anyone has a recommendation for a replacement I'd be very grateful.

What an own goal, pissing off the majority of your customer base.

CornishTiger · 09/07/2020 22:31

M&S do two cleansing balms a Pure ( which I got in the summer kit) and a formula one in green tub. Both similar price points. Worth looking at.
