Recommendations for alternatives to Body Shop

Lottapianos · 08/07/2020 10:49

Hi all, I wont be spending any more money with the Body Shop because of their recent tweets and online behaviour. I do love a lot of their products unfortunately. Can anyone recommend some alternatives to these products:

Peppermint Foot Lotion
Camomile Cleansing Balm
Strong smelling shower gels

Thanks!

L’Occitane Hand Cream is fantastic...not cheap, but one tube has lasted me since lockdown and a lot of hand washing!
Otherwise E45 or Aveeno.
These are worth a look.

I like the Merumaya? Cleansing balm. I think it's also a smallish U.K. brand.

MrsJonesAndMe · 10/07/2020 06:26

Any recommendations to replace the Ginger shampoo? I too won't be back after their behaviour!

Fruitbowlflowers · 10/07/2020 06:40

@TinyMetalBirds Superdrug also sell their own bran period products for ‘people that menstruate’ so I’ve boycotted them as well as body shop.

Lottapianos · 10/07/2020 06:51

Jeez Fruitbowl, at this rate there will be nowhere left to shop Hmm

@lottapianos I know! Gutted when I heard about Superdrug as I use a lot of their cruelty free stuff.

BillywilliamV · 10/07/2020 07:08

Yeah, lets put The Bodyshop out of business, because EVERYONE that works there has absolutely the same opinion! Those that didnt hold that opinion would obviously have resigned from their jobs the minute the opinion was expressed, so the ones that are left deserve to be thrown on the scrapheap when my actions drive the business under.

Ginfordinner · 10/07/2020 07:23

Well said @BillywilliamV

Superdrug do good and v cheap range of own brand shower gels, which are not tested on animals.

If anyone could suggest an alternative gift set style pack of the vanilla range and the strawberry range I would be very appreciative. My DD loves them and it's my go to Christmas and birthday gift every year for her. DS also adores the vanilla body butter.

Boycotting a company for their official, offensive, anti-women company stance is not you taking it out on their workers. THEY are damaging their own company and as such, affecting their own staff.

I am a customer and as such can and should shop according to my morals.

Bodyshop are idiots who decided to attack their almost entire demographic! Putting woman, women or girl into their online shop search gets no results. Search men and you get 66 products. Fine. I'm a woman and they are showing they don't want my custom.

Whilst my DS likes the vanilla smell now at 8, I can't see him when he's older wanting to forgo the Lynx and aftershave in favour of a nice bodyshop strawberry mist spritzer, or sitting with his mates on the Xbox wearing a Himalayan deep cleansing facial mask. Maybe the trans (who I don't actually have an issue with, they didn't all do this) Male and the over-woke folk can keep bodyshop going so I'll leave it to them.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/07/2020 08:20

The Body Shop are doing more harm to their 'employees' (unpaid sales reps sold the idea they are running a viable business, while competing with their own website, stores, and discount stores) apparently a lot of the stores are franchises too so the Body Shop have chosen a business model that gives them very little risk and very little responsibility towards the people making them money.

I know the current feeling towards them is due to the trans issue and I'm not really very read up on this but honestly they have been a terrible company for women for a long time.

HotFlowers · 10/07/2020 08:27

@MrsJonesAndMe We’ve tried the ginger shampoo from savers that I read was a good alternative, it wasn’t. Left scalp itchy and dry.... so still looking for an alternative.

MrsJonesAndMe · 10/07/2020 12:12

Oh no @HotFlowers thanks though.

I use SuperDrug's Vitamin E stuff too, so there goes another thing I need to replace Hmm Getting harder as I already won't set foot in Boots due to their snotty staff treating me like a naughty child!

snappycamper · 10/07/2020 12:25

@Lottapianos

Oh, and one more - Hemp Hand Protector. Best hand cream ever Sad
I loved this hand cream too Sad

My favourite alternatives are Clarins hand and nail treatment cream (very speedy) and Waitrose pure hand cream (budget choice but excellent, probably better than the hemp one I think)

Bomb Cosmetics could be a good option? I live their body polish, smoothing but gentle and softening at the same time. Similar price range to Body Shop I think.

I agree with snappycamper the Clarins hand cream is amazing but pricy, I got gifted some one Christmas and nearly had a heart attack when I went to repurchase it later in the year :p

Lottapianos · 10/07/2020 16:10

Have tried the Clarins hand cream and not impressed sadly. Smells gorgeous but didnt find it all that useful on dry hands

I’ve been using Atrixo Hand Regeneration cream in a tube and they also do one in a green tub but I can’t remember the name.

Original Source shower gels are pretty strong and I used to use some by Anatomicals but not sure if they still exist as I haven’t seen them for ages (use bar soap now so don’t really look).
