Need a product to scrunch into my natural curly hair to get rid of fuzz??

Wonderingwhyme · 05/07/2020 16:59

My hair is naturally quite curly but very frizzy. Not tight curls, quite loose. My hair is dry and I’m trying to get it into a better condition with hair masks etc. I want to not dry and straighten my hair as much (currently every day). I don’t do the curly girl method as it looks awful so please don’t suggest it. I just want a product I can scrunch in when it’s wet to define the curls and get rid of fuzz but when I can get rid of fuzz it’s just a sticky, crunchy mess!! Can anyone recommend a specific product for this please?

Ok so if I get out shower, wrap hair, get dry, I unwrap hair and put product in.... I can’t just clip it back. My hair is half way down my back, last bra strap level so I can’t clip it as it doesn’t stay up and if I tie it up I just get ridges/kinks in it? What about the above and then instead of clip it put it back in a towel??

I managed to get the John Frieda above that. Mentioned and the cantu for natural hair moisturising curl activator cream....no ide which to start with tomorrow....

I have shoulder length hair and I don't clip it up as it wouldn't dry quick enough ....

I just apply the product throughout and leave it.
Don't touch it until it's totally dry and then scrunch the crunch for wonderful frizz free curls ... hopefully 😬

My natural hair is just unreal. Only my kids have seen my hair completely as nature intended. It’s made. It’s big and frizzy and curly but more like the mermaid type curly that looks like I put my hair in plaits them lovely ringlet type curly!

My hair is also 2b/2c.

My advice is ditch the towel. Get a special microfiber hair towel or use an old cotton t-shirt. Normal towels make my hair uncontrollably frizzy. Cotton tshirt is the best for avoiding frizz but I usually end up using the microfiber hair towel because I never remember to take a t-shirt into the bathroom with me.

My hair is long, thick and wavy. I use super drug coconut oil shampoo and herbal essences silk conditioner. Then smooth through coconut oil while it's damp and keep twirling sections until it is dry. Pita and takes ages but it looks good and keeps it under control. Tbh I straighten it every other time now and I only wash it once a week maximum.

Wonderingwhyme · 14/07/2020 13:21

So I used the John Frieda serum on it wet, then the mousse and then the spray. Yes it’s slightly less frizzy than when left to it’s own devices but still looks crap! I will get one of those microfibres Towels

Hmmm, I use John Frieda Dream Curls shampoo and conditioner, then the styling spray, then I blow dry it upside down.

My hair is actually gorgeous. The rest of me looks like a pile of shit but my hair is great Grin

I don't rate the mousse at all. I wonder if you have put too much product on it? Have you tried a Philip Kingsley Elasticiser? They work for a lot of people.

Apple1971 · 14/07/2020 15:36

I find normal hair conditioner (not the leave in kind) works really well. Just put a small amount on when my hair is wet and it’s works really well.

Wonderingwhyme · 14/07/2020 16:32

Hate that Phillips stuff. No idea how people rate it, my hair was left craggy and dry. Haven’t tried conditioner left in.

I tried the JF weightless serum and shockwaves mousse off the back of this thread.
The serum did smooth my hair and smells lovely - but my curls dropped out completely! I put it on dry hair after a day 2 refresh though...
The shockwaves I tried as a day 3 refresh and so far, so good! Hasn’t dried my hair out completely like the other mousse I’ve been using...
OP your hair sounds amazing!

Wonderingwhyme · 15/07/2020 13:58

I haven’t used the shockwaves mousse for years... maybe that’s next to try. @babyinthacorner it really isn’t! If it didn’t get frizzy it would be ok!

I've just caught up with this thread, thank you for starting OP, you're not alone! I'm going to order a microfibre towel and start using that. I'd love to hear your updates if you're willing to share, there are so many products recommended that I just don't know where to start!

As you said, I wish you could get samples. If something doesn't work I tend to keep using it anyway because I can't stand the waste. We really need a hair product exchange scheme!

itsureis · 17/07/2020 15:19

Hair product exchange - what a good idea !!

Also you don't need to go to the expense of a microfibre towel. A super thin cotton tablecloth, or similar, from a charity shop will do the trick - that's what in use and it also drys in no time on the line.

mencken · 17/07/2020 15:27

when times are better, go get it treated with either Loreal Xtenso or Wellastrate. Takes hours and costs a bit but will turn a triangular fuzzball into smooth combable hair. It won't be dead straight but it will have shine and you'll be able to get through doors. :-)

lasts a year if done properly. It will be a while before I can have mine redone but it still makes a difference.

and although I didn't believe it, salon shampoo and conditioner are worth the price. I use the Wella ones, they are labelled volumising which is of course the last thing we fuzzy types need but they do actually work. Regrettably there's no such thing as thinning shampoo or conditioner.

Bioprepper · 17/07/2020 15:27

boots curl creme is the best for curly hair and its cheap too :) i dont often wear my hair curly anymore but this is the business if i do

Wonderingwhyme · 18/07/2020 10:51

@mencken isn’t that just like chemicals straightening it though? Or like a Brazilian blow dry or what ever they are called? Surely then it won’t be curly anymore?

Product exchange would be great! I don’t know anyone with curly hair! I do not rate boots curl cream at all. None of the John Frieda either (I have had 4 products now ) I currently now have shockwaves curl mousse to try next and I have one of the cantu products to try too. My hairdresser couldn’t recommend anything, she suggested the trying conditioner scrunched in like you would a curl product so will try that too but I think with my hair it will just weigh it down and look greasy but will try that too.

I love that OGX curl cream but it's become really hard to find. John Freida frizz ease is a start in my hair, but I need something with more muscle.

FredaFox · 18/07/2020 11:15

I use John Frieda dream curls foam and leave mine to sit dry, I'm more wavy Christian right curls but since I also started using the dream curls shampoo my curls have got better. The more days I go curly the better they go but I do like the odd day straight.
I can't do day 2 curls, they are hard to revive so I wash hair daily when curly but I don't use a comb or brush just my fingers which I think helps me

FredaFox · 18/07/2020 11:16

Curly not Christian silly spell check!

itsureis · 18/07/2020 11:39

Brazilian blow dry sounds a little rude or is that just how my kind works 😂

Another finger comber here - never brush it and it takes days to recover after it's had a brushing from the hairdresser 🤦‍♀️

Rodders92 · 18/07/2020 11:50

My hair sounds like yours OP , after many trials and errors with products now just stick to sulphate free shampoo and silicone free conditioners. Rinse conditioner out then scrunch in more conditioner to let it dry . Any frizz just apply a blob more conditioner mixed on wet hands , liking the garnier hair food at the mo

Wonderingwhyme · 18/07/2020 13:39

I never brush it unless I’m blow drying straight. Use a comb on wet hair but if I’m having a curly day I just leave it completely.... tomorrow I will wash it and try the conditioner on scrunching and see.

Need to try the hair food too...

Wonderingwhyme · 19/07/2020 13:44

Ok so today have used cantu Shea butter for natural hair cram activator cream and not eating that either. I’m going to be bankrupt soon! Shockwaves curl mousse next to try Hmm

I love your persistence OP! If I just leave mine without brushing it can sometimes look an OK curly, other times it just looks like a bush. I still don't know why (DH calls me Crystal Tips if you remember her delightful hair!).

Also I tie it back a lot so that it doesn't get in the way, but then end up with an enormous scrunchy kink. End result is permanently tied up hair!
