Need a product to scrunch into my natural curly hair to get rid of fuzz??

My hair is naturally quite curly but very frizzy. Not tight curls, quite loose. My hair is dry and I’m trying to get it into a better condition with hair masks etc. I want to not dry and straighten my hair as much (currently every day). I don’t do the curly girl method as it looks awful so please don’t suggest it. I just want a product I can scrunch in when it’s wet to define the curls and get rid of fuzz but when I can get rid of fuzz it’s just a sticky, crunchy mess!! Can anyone recommend a specific product for this please?

R&B from Lush is amazing. My hair is more wavy than curly, but is very frizzy with it. I put this on after washing and leave my hair to dry naturally. Once it dry, I add a bit more. It stops the frizz entirely and you can add more with it looking greasy too. It's one of the few products that I can't be without. Lasts forever and smells amazing too.

Sorry, forgot about this thread. I use Aveda Phomollient styling foam and Frizz Ease Original 6 Effects Serum with the red stripe. Silicones are a wonderful thing for some of us!

Wonderingwhyme · 11/07/2020 15:56

Thanks everyone. I think I’m going to work my way through each product... I don’t have any other choice I don’t think! Wish you could get samples. This website keeps coming up on my Facebook bloucheme? Has anyone tried that??

I like “twisted sista” product but nobody else on these threads ever rate them!

At the moment I am using the boots pink cream and a cantu leave in conditioner which I watered down and now works much better for me

Mamette · 11/07/2020 16:21

What are people doing with the Garnier hair foods?

I use them as a conditioner and rinse out. Should they be used as a leave-in? On wet or day hair?

Mamette · 11/07/2020 16:22

Wet or dry that should say.

LightOfAThousandStars · 11/07/2020 22:34

I've used Boucleme products before and didn't like them, the curl cream is very heavy and the gel doesn't have much hold either. They are expensive for what they are.

The Garnier Food ones are really good as a mask before washing hair and can also be used in place of your conditioner or as a leave in.

itsureis · 11/07/2020 23:24

Another vote for Cantu. I use the shampoo and conditioner now too and love it.
I use the styling cream and the styling spray for my daughter whose curls aren't as defined as mine (yet)
I also use a cotton sheet to wrap my hair after washing rather than a regular towel.

Wonderingwhyme · 12/07/2020 06:13

Thanks all. So does the shampoo and conditioner ever make a difference? I am struggling and have always struggled for shamp and cond asi have a bloody dry scalp and coloured hair that is dry and can not find one that my hair likes. As I still want to be able to straighten my hair... how much of a difference will shamp and cond make? Do I need a ‘curly hair’ shampoo?

I was always a little nervous about washing and conditioning my hair thinking it would cause more frizz if it was too clean but I wash my hair every few days with Cantu and don't have a problem.

It might be the styling product rather than the shampoo/ conditioner but my hair never feels matted after shampooing like it does with some "regular" products.

The towel though is very important - try and get the wetness from your hair without rubbing.

Wonderingwhyme · 12/07/2020 09:15

Ok I need to look at this cantu then! When iv washed and conditioned I wrap it in a towel and leave it whilst I do other things, sort dc out, so my make up and then take the towel off. I never ever rub my hair with that towel at all.

I get mine from Sainsbury's.

I only leave my towel on for 5/10mins whilst I'm getting dried, then styling product, then leave to air dry, then de-crunch ...
Then I'm good to go !!

Good luck !

Following! I’ve found my people!
I have also been through the curly girl method and am out the other side and MUCH less stressed about my hair Grin
I only discovered my hair was curly 4 years ago in my mid-30s and I’m still working it out!
I’ve always used Boucleme gel - the yellow one and now the purple strong hold (usually used together) and they’re good, but take an age to dry - even with diffusing. I recently started using a Got2Be mousse I bought by accident and I love the volume and loose beach waves I get and how quickly it dries but by day 2 my hair feels like straw.
I’ve seen the John Frieda and shockwaves mousses mentioned - does anyone have a particular recommendation for non-drying mousse if there is such a thing?!

babyinthacorner · 12/07/2020 10:07

OP as for curly hair shampoo - I don’t think you necessarily need one. My curly hair hairdresser’s recommendations change every time I see her - at the moment it’s faith in nature she recommends for a gentle clean, but she tries to use all natural products. I find I get my best hair when I use bumble & bumble curly hair shampoo - hideously expensive but has lasted over a year as it lathers so well and I only use it once a week at most. It was one of the curly hair products I bought - feeling sick at the price - but can totally justify buying again!

Wonderingwhyme · 12/07/2020 10:45

Thanks. Iv done an Ocado delivery this week and have ordered cantu and frizz ease (I actually used to use that for straightening my hair, never curling!) so will start with these and work down the list!

I didn't know there were so many different Cantu products! Is it these two that everyone is using, Cantu Coconut Curling Cream and Cantu Curl Reviver Spray?

Nitpickpicnic · 13/07/2020 05:42

OP, I think if you stop using a normal towel twisted up to dry, it’ll be a revelation. There are several $$$ ‘t-shirt’ specialty hair towels out there, but I’ve found even a cheaper microfibre-style hair turban works 100x better than a towel for my ringlets.

I put one on straight from the shower, but only long enough to moisturise my face. Then I take off the turban, gently pressing the thicker bit of the length.

Next is the Frizz Ease (all the transparent x5, x6, x7 ‘Effects’ ones are interchangeable from experience). I scrunch it in gently, not pulling it through as a comb. My new trick is to put my hair up in a high pony (wet) and form a few ringlets with my fingers in the tail. If I let it air dry like that (or do it last thing at night) I get a lot of volume when I let it down dry. Looks like a blow dry!

MeOnSea · 13/07/2020 09:35

I think a lot depends on the texture/thickness of your hair: my hair is very fine, despite it looking quite thick due to my curls, so products like boots curl cream - while working brilliantly for others - are just too thick, no matter how little I use.

For me, getting loads of moisture into my hair really helps. I use faith in nature coconut shampoo, and Superdry coconut conditioner - they also have a deep conditioner which is just brilliant.

Then on damp hair, label m leave in conditioner followed by either umberto giannini jelly, or Toni & guy wave balm. The latter looks more natural and feels softer than the jelly, but you might get a little frizz. Provided you don’t play with your hair when it’s drying, and it’s not a ridiculously humid day, then it tends to settle down

Starlight39 · 13/07/2020 11:33

Your hair sounds very similar to mine both in curl type and lots of hair but fine!

I use products with no sulphates or silicones and over time that has helped hydrate my hair - I have zero split ends now even if I don't cut it for ages. I use this shampoo - quite expensive but you only need a little so it lasts a long time:
www.superdrug.com/Hair/Shampoo/Everyday-Shampoo/Shea-Moisture-Superfruit-Shampoo-379ml/p/708640?gclid=CjwKCAjwjLD4BRAiEiwAg5NBFlwiJJXUzCzHw4iMei7mLlhpmwzItNXqkrG97T8gDLc_uHO-G1N_iBoCoeAQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I currently use a Suma conditioner as I get it in a huge container but any that says it's silicone free will do. For styling, I add a bit of leave in conditioner to soaking wet hair then scrunch out exess water and wrap hair in a microfibre towel for a bit then use eco natural cocktail: www.pakcosmetics.com/brand/Ecoco/Eco-Styler/Eco-Natural-Curl-N-Styling-Cocktail.html?pscid=81900&gclid=CjwKCAjwjLD4BRAiEiwAg5NBFgg5HyYm4TLihUhf6k583Gw79iR3idvPulJ7sVif78uDX3jCtYJOGBoCH1IQAvD_BwE

The eco cocktail is light enough for my fine hair but also moisturising and reduces frizz. It also doesn't go crispy which I prefer as I don't blow dry or diffuse my hair and I'd rather it wasn't hard/crispy as it's drying.

Wonderingwhyme · 13/07/2020 13:06

Right so I have the following:
John Frieda
Dream curls mousse
Curl defining Creme
Daily styling spray
Extra strength serum

Which should I try first? For you use any of these at the same time??

@LightOfAThousandStars
I use Cantu coconut curling cream, I have thick hair that can go into ringlets, and use coconut oil shine and hold mist spray on my 7yr old, just for the ease.

LightOfAThousandStars · 13/07/2020 17:43

Thanks so much @itsureis, they both sound like products that might work for my waves as well.

Fatted · 13/07/2020 18:08

OP, I know other people have mentioned it, but I think it's what you're doing WITH your hair rather than WHAT you put on it that is the problem.

If you are going to use a product, you need to put it on wet hair. If your is damp or dry, then it will make your hair sticky or greasy. Or both! I use the boots creme to smooth mine out after it's dry, but I use sparingly, rub a bit on my hands and smooth them over my hair at the top.

I get out the shower and wrap my hair in a towel while I dry myself off. This is enough to take the rough off so it's not dripping everywhere, but is still wet enough to work. Then I brush it through, use some boots curl creme, and scrunch it up. Always use product sparingly. If it's a bit wet, I might wrap it back in the towel for a while, but usually I don't need to. I defuse it at the roots to give it a bit of lift and then leave it to dry on its own. I clip the hair around my face back while it's drying, overwise it hangs in my face and I hate it. If I clip it (Think Dua Lipa) it kind of sets away from my face.

Best shampoo and conditioner I've found is the OGX Keratin one (bronze/brown bottle). I've been using the boots creme for almost 20 years, I've tried others but never get the same results I do with the boots one. Especially not for the price!

itsureis · 13/07/2020 18:22

Totally agree @Fatted

I never leave my hair wrapped for long.

I do sometimes leave it to dry without product when I'm not going anywhere - it looks hilarious 😂

If any guy can love me with product free hair then he'll be a keeper ;-)
