Summer Interview Dress

WillowB · 27/06/2020 11:14

Please help!
I have an interview in July for a teaching job that I really, really want.
The forecast for that week is looking pretty warm. All of my summer dresses are a bit too casual.
I also need something that doesn't show too much cleavage, not too short (not usually a problem as I'm 5ft!) and preferably not sleeveless.

Has anyone seen any thing fitting this description or any shops where I'm likely to find something?

Thanks!

Phase Eight have never let me down when I have needed a wedding, funeral, interview dress.

morelikeaclubsandwich · 27/06/2020 11:16

Sorry no answer for you but don't wear linen it will crumple

Cheesypea · 27/06/2020 11:21

I suit shirt style dresses in summer-cotton and doesnt show flesh. Whats your body type? What styles suit you? I heard a great tip, find a celebrity with your body shape and google their outfits.

Atalune · 27/06/2020 11:26

Second a shirt dress in cotton. Loads on the high street. H and M would be a good start.

Atalune · 27/06/2020 11:31

The plum one also comes in a tan colour and is silk but it’s £99. The other one is much cheaper.

Would look great with tan accessories.

A classic wrap dress is also a good staple. Biden has lots in the sale. But lots are jersey and that makes me HOT.

Thank you for the ideas. I'm fairly big busted & prefer to cover my tummy post kids, though I do have a waist. Just a flabby belly too! I suit A line or skater styles but shirt dresses also fit the bill so I'll google those.

Yes Atalune I looked at the Boden ones. Wasn't sure if the jersey would be clingy either. They have a nice shirt dress which I really like but it has lemons on & I'm not sure it's conservative enough.

You should be in a dress suit, skirt suit or trouser suit if you want to be taken seriously.

HansBanans · 27/06/2020 11:44

Ted Baker would have something along those lines I believe. It would be quite pricey but their clothes last a long time. Good luck with your interview!

WillowB · 27/06/2020 11:50

Vik81 I've been to various teaching job interviews and also interviewed for jobs. Primary teaching interviews, especially for early years are slightly more relaxed as it usually involves some element of teaching which is quite uncomfortable in a suit.
A smart dress will be absolutely fine.

morelikeaclubsandwich · 27/06/2020 12:16

I like shirt 4 on op

PersonaNonGarter · 27/06/2020 12:19

These dresses are both lovely:

This one in the navy print

Or for a plain dress

I like this in the cheerful green but the blue might be more sensible

flibbertmygibbert · 27/06/2020 12:30

Can I jump on your thread and also ask people what shoes (not open toed) to wear with these dresses please? I’m also a teacher and have very similar dresses but no idea what to wear.

I wore a dress just like Next dress 3 for an interview and got the job if that helps. But it was cold and I wore black boots.

Letseatgrandma · 27/06/2020 12:35

I’m a teacher and wear the Next linen dresses loads-as do most of my colleagues! We tend to wear strappy sandals/Birkenstocks. If going for an interview on a boiling day-I’d probably still wear that sort of thing, but with a little cardigan! I teach EYFS and don’t really do posh. I haven’t ever gone for an interview and not got the job!

Good luck!

gavisconismyfriend · 27/06/2020 12:42

Seasalt have a great range of dresses and are well cut, so can look interview-smart if needed

Member · 27/06/2020 13:24

Laura Ashley

Limited sizes but I like that it could be “winterised” as well

WillowB · 27/06/2020 15:31

Thank you so much for the links & ideas. I'm going to have a good look through them all later Thanks

A bump for the evening fashionistas...which I am not. And I’m invested.
