Hello!

There used to be a lovely what are you wearing today? thread(s) on here for people who were plus size (circa 16/18 and up I think).

Could anyone tell me if they've seen one lately please? If there isn't one on the go, would anyone be interested in joining me on here?

I'm size 16/18. Today I'm in a New Look floral dress and DM boots. Pic attached (hopefully).

@LordOfTheOnionRings, it made sense for me to stay at home after I got made redundant, as, with two dcs and no family around to help with childcare it was going to be tricky for me to get back to work and not end up losing quite a bit of money after we took childcare into account.

So it's been enjoyable, because it is the best thing for us financially and also because it hasn't been disruptive in any way; no nursery drop off, no taking time off work if the kids are sick etc. I also loved some of the baby / toddler groups. But I have to admit that parenting at home has sucked at points during lockdown. But that has probably been the case for all parents, not just the SAHPs.

If it hadn't been the best choice for us financially, and I had a demanding career etc, no, we probably wouldn't have chosen to give that up for me to stay at home. But, we may have done something like both of us doing part time with different days off, and then only sending them to childcare when neither of us was off. But that would only be if we had careers which allowed that and paid enough, not to be too fiscal about it all.

I honestly don't think there's as much choice in the whole SAHM / WOHM debate as people make out. Usually, there are external factors involved, which make one choice or the other very difficult.

@Myshitisreal love the outfit and the attitude to diet and exercise!

I do indeed feel more at home in dungarees! Grin

Pretty much any day I don't post a photo it is because I am wearing the dungarees I have posted earlier. I have a huge number of pinafores too, but I prefer them as winter-wear with tights.

popgoesperfection · 18/08/2020 22:15

That's great @LordOfTheOnionRings that you had a good first day back!! It's so daunting returning after months off isn't it. How old is your lo?

IslaMann · 19/08/2020 11:12

Ah @LordOfTheOnionRings I remember that back to work feeling well. Mix of glad to be back with adults, and sadness at missing the LO.
At least you look fab through it though!

Today I'm in my new-to-me Seasalt dress with cropped leggings underneath.

Love that with the leggings @IslaMann! I need to get some cropped leggings before next summer! Such a good option for people like me, who aren't always keen onshaving their bare legs!

Here I am in lounge suit from Uniqlo and DMs.

I'm repeating an outfit again with black trousers and my long sleeved purple GAP jumper. Had a super early start with the toddler and then suddenly it was time to be out the house lol.

StCharlotte · 19/08/2020 13:28

Ohhhhh horror! I'm wearing a knee length short sleeved dress from Manteray. I wore it through the winter with opaque tights and boots and loved it. Being short sleeved you'd think it should work for summer but it's sort of brushed cotton. I'm wearing it bare-legged and although my legs are a bit tanned, frankly it looks like a nightshirt and I can't wait to get home and change. I feel very horrible today Grin

Loving all these Seasalt dresses!

I'm wearing these blue camo leggings and a long blue sweatshirt top from Kit & Kaboodal.
Was out demonstrating in the pouring rain earlier so needed something a bit cosy when I got home!

LordOfTheOnionRings · 19/08/2020 19:34

@popgoesperfection he is eight months old. I work evenings so I have really really missed putting him to bed, that's been the hardest part!

popgoesperfection · 19/08/2020 19:39

😞 how many evenings do you work @LordOfTheOnionRings? I'll be working 3 days a week but would love to drop some more hours.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 19/08/2020 19:45

@popgoesperfection 5 days a week, it's a real bummer but I get a lot of time with him in the morning and my partner gets to put him to sleep but I miss those snuggly cuddles 😢 3 days a week sounds fab! Will that be a full day or part time hours? X

popgoesperfection · 19/08/2020 19:55

@LordOfTheOnionRings It's catch 22 with what hours you choose to work isn't it because there's no real 'good' hours, you still end up missing some part of the day with lo 😞 I'll be working 10-6 (reluctantly) and will be relying on my parents for childcare for both kids. X

Deathraystare · 20/08/2020 08:36

A rather nice (if I do say so myself) dress from Boohoo plus (via Asos). It is black with small white dots, a v neck and 'bracelet length sleeves. I am wearing ti with black opaque tights and black ankle boots as I am attending my Uncle's funeral later in the day after my shift.

I am normally bumming around in a t shirt and leggings. I feel I have joined the grown ups today!

IslaMann · 20/08/2020 08:38

Sorry to hear about your uncle @Deathraystare. Outfit sounds fab tho.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/08/2020 09:00

Today we have my denim skirt from hobbs sz 16, and my stitch fix purple T shirt size M. To be worn with chub rub shorts and vans when I leave the house.

Very sorry to hear about your uncle @Deathraystare Flowers. Hope the funeral goes as well as can be expected.

@LordOfTheOnionRings, having said I've been at home for years, I did actually do a few months of evening and weekend work, in fancy pants restaurants. I loved it, but I was still bfing dc2, so it could get a bit... awkward. Definitely no time or place to express milk, unfortunately. I did find that hard going, as you miss out on time with your partner and dc. But, in other ways it was good, like you say, as you get to spend the daytime with your dc, every day of the week. I also did really enjoy the adult time out of the house, getting suited and booted, (I was a hostess some of the days in a Michelin star, fine dining, place, so I had to look really smart), meeting new people all the time and not talking about baby stuff. I also found I got more exercise without really trying!

It is really tough though, so I definitely sympathise.

Not dressed yet Blush. It's a special occasion in our house, so started the day with fancy Danish in bed with the kids. One of them has gone off to an activity this morning and DH will be back from activity drop off in a minute, so I'll get dressed then.

IslaMann thanks!

sugarbum · 20/08/2020 11:46

morning! its a me-made day today. I sew constantly but don't much love making clothes unless I really really want something specific with a fabric. Hence this dress. Working from home as usual.

TheClitterati · 20/08/2020 12:32

that is gorgeous Sugarbum.
I have a shirt dress on my make list but haven't attempted it yet.

LadyPrigsbottom · 20/08/2020 12:40

That's so impressive @sugarbum! The fabric is lovely and so is the dress.

Here I am in Seasalt dress, size 18. Not the eBay one. With tan, leather ballet pumps from M&S. Charity shop necklace.
