I need new knickers

I'm struggling. I have a load of lace topped VPL free shorts but they're all in synthetic fabric and now I'm heavier they ride up constantly and also slip down under my belly. I'm losing weight but I feel like binning them all and starting afresh. I hate thongs and anything too low but equally I feel about 100 in my m and s high/ full knickers. They're cotton so lovely on that front but just so high up they show over the top of my jeans.
I posted last year about something knicker related and can not find what I asked so apologies - I'm not some pants fetish person. Just a big bellied 40 something.

Try Brazilian style? Comfy and cover everything but don't come up high enough to tuck into your bra!

Bmidreams · 20/06/2020 21:06

I like the high leg lace top asda ones. They could be high over your jeans maybe, but the lace at least looks pretty! They feel like they hold my tummy in.

NC4Now · 20/06/2020 21:11

I’m the same OP. I find shorts style knickers comfiest.

hopeishere · 20/06/2020 21:29

I got some from M&S recently most comfy ever. Flexifit modal midi knickers. Love them.

thedevilinablackdress · 20/06/2020 22:04

M&S midi have great coverage but are not as high as the full brief.

YouStupidBoy · 20/06/2020 22:18

I like Sloggi Zero Feel hipsters.

StarlightLady · 21/06/2020 08:08

M&S Brazillians. Comfy, stop put and with (ever so) soft lace on the legs rather than elastic. They also have some stretch so you don’t feel as if you are wearing a nappy after a couple of hours.

A good colour selection too. I don’t do white or “cardboard”, often described as nude.

BikeRunSki · 21/06/2020 08:11

Oddballs

EL8888 · 21/06/2020 08:16

@StarlightLady cardboard is a good description 😂.

I’m looking for suggestions of brands / shops as well. The Brazilian / boy shorts style typically works for me

weareyoung · 21/06/2020 08:23

M&S FlexiFit modal knickers, as PP mentioned.

Omg. Just so, so comfy. I'm not overweight but have a significant overhang after two c sections and these knickers sit just in the right place, not too high, and they don't slip down.

StarlightLady · 21/06/2020 08:28

@EL8888 - l can’t put into words how much l hate them. They just make you look as if you have a cardboard crotch! I like to live my life in full colour.

Polkadotpjs · 21/06/2020 08:48

I don't like the cardboard either. Unless under white trousers!! I'll check out the modal midi I think. And Asda if I ever go in there again! Thanks all for understanding this knicker dilemma!

I bought these from Amazon, wasn't expecting much but they are cotton, very comfy and smooth out the wobbly bits -

BikeRunSki · 21/06/2020 09:10

Oddballs, linked above, do brightly coloured boyshorts. The call the women’s boxers.

IlonaRN · 21/06/2020 10:46

I found the bamboo ones at Ella&Me, and love them. They don't cut into my tummy (I had a c-section), and they don't ride up. They also don't cause thrush! :)

StarlightLady · 21/06/2020 12:10

I often wear stretch lace, with cotton gusset and l’ve never had a pair of knickers that have given me thrush.

MrDarcysMa · 21/06/2020 12:21

it totally depends on the shape of your bum. I have a large bottom with fleshy bum cheeks and I get wedgies with EVERYTHING apart from m&s no vpl ones, I like the full brief ones as they cover my belly too. but now they seem to have made the leg holes a bit tighter in some of the random packs - I bought a few and some are different annoyingly, so I get a VPL around the leg bit!

StCharlotte · 21/06/2020 12:40

I've just replenished my supply of these having loved them previously. They're awful this time round and it's like there's no elastic in the top. I won't be able to wear them under skirts as they keep falling down. They're also skimpier. These are the cotton ones. My old one were synthetic but at least they stayed up. I'm pretty pissed off actually.

MrBennsshop · 21/06/2020 12:51

I bought some M & S Brazilians but they are falling to bits with each wash. Won't be replacing them as I don't buy from them any more (since they now allow men in women's lingerie changing rooms). I love Uniqlo airism shorts, they are seamless and so comfy. They also do some high rise briefs/shorts in cotton which are also great but they are quite high!

WhatWouldPennyDo · 21/06/2020 13:26

I have some M&S Rio Sweetheart Brazilians that I love. So comfy and they look nice on. Awful name, though.

Polkadotpjs · 22/06/2020 21:31

I'd forgotten actually about m and a quality. I just noticed an M and S bra has so many holes in it and is threadbare at only 2 years old whereas its primark counterpart is like new. Hmmmm. Any other online options. Can't afford bamboo pants and worried the Uniqlo big are too big.

StarlightLady · 23/06/2020 07:45

I’ve never known a bra go into holes. I certainly would discard at the first one. I usually get rid of bras because the no longer have the righ amount of oomph.

I find the M&S quality of the Brazillian and Rio range in mesh/lace consistent. Likewise in sizing. For me the important thing is the stretch they give. They also wash well in the machine at 40 degrees.

In addition, l always buy 2 pairs of matching knix with a new bra.

It might not be trendy to say it, but all cotton with its lack of give always feels like a baggy nappy to me. Stretch lace moves with you and it does breathe; it’s full of tiny holes.

Polkadotpjs · 23/06/2020 08:08

I'll give some a go. The bra thing is weird like the holes appeared suddenly one wash!

StarlightLady · 23/06/2020 09:06

OP, let us know how you get on.

It’s like with lots of things on “Style”, people often ask about, jeans, dresses, shoes etc, but fewer people report back to us, which l think is a pity. We could learn more that way.

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/06/2020 12:26

The M&S Brazilians are crap IMO, they cut my bum cheek off and leave a visible line where they do so in trousers and jeans. I seized up to see if that was the issue but they just do the same in the latger size but are too loose as well Hmm. Not a fan of the fabric either.

I think it is just trial and error sadly OP, since everyones bum/stomach/width of hips is completely different. My most comfortable pants currently are some Sloggi ones and 100% cotton briefs from Primark.
