What 'cheapies' do you like?
Do you always have them around or do you only buy when you're trying to spend less?

OP posts:
Browzingss · 19/06/2020 22:53

Zara has lots of fragrance dupes for industry faves

Stellakent · 20/06/2020 08:08

Aldi Caviar cream - fabulous stuff.

bingohandjob · 20/06/2020 08:51

Another vote for Superdrug. I've swapped out all of my Eve Lom, Clarins, Origins, Lancome, Shiseido etc for Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser (but use a flannel), Naturally Radiant eye cream and serums and the B Range age phase products - happily swap between them and pick up when half price. The Vitamin E tub of body cream is great. I do love Laura Mercier make up (powder, eye caviar sticks) and Hourglass highlighters but you'll pry my Rimmel eyeliner and No 7 mascara from my cold, dead wonderfully soft thanks to the amazing O'Keeffe's Working Hands Hand Cream hands. The products I spend the most money on because I feel I really see and feel a difference tend to be powder products for the face (and those eye caviar sticks) so I love the above and Becca blushers and shampoo and conditioner.

Another Superdrug convert here, I’m currently loving the glycolic toner and overnight peel serum stuff.

BeeFarseer · 20/06/2020 10:44

H&M nail polishes. They are around £2.99 - £3.99 and the brushes are nice and thick. Most colours are one-coaters, all of them dry streak free in two coats. They have a wide range of colours that they change seasonally, so if you find a great colour, stock up.

SydneyCarton · 20/06/2020 10:54

Rimmel soft kohl eyeliner has been my go to for more years than I want to admit to Grin

Cotswoldmama · 21/06/2020 18:07

MUA pro base foundation - medium coverage, long lasting, lots of shades and it’s only £5 or quite often save a 1/3 at Superdrug. Also Superdrug’s naturally radiant glycolic acid cleansing pads are amazing. All the ordinary products especially the retinol are such good value.

graysquirrel · 21/06/2020 18:20

Waitrose own brand shower gel, around £2. Good likeness to Molton Brown.

Htbrinks · 21/06/2020 18:22

One of my favourite cheap products is Elf cosmetics

Callingallskeletons · 21/06/2020 18:45

Rimmel Powder - helps hide any oily spots and generally gives (me anyway) really nice coverage

Batiste Dry Shampoo

E45 cream in a tube for dry/cracked hands

Colgate Cavity Protection Toothpaste (think it’s about 75p a tube and we all love the taste of it, can’t stand the expensive brands now)

Pre Covid we always used dettol sensitive soap bars because they were the only thing that didn’t chap or crack my hands in winter, they used to be 6 bars for £4
Now they’re around £7 a bar!!! Bloody pandemic 😂

LadyEloise · 21/06/2020 19:29

Just Jack dupe of Tom Ford Neroli.

Just Jack do the White Patchouli and Black Orchid dupes too.

Frankiemintz · 21/06/2020 19:43

NYX eyebrow powder pencil £5.50 the best I’ve used
Maybelline Hyperprecise eyeliner £5.99
Aldi hand cream
Sanex 0% shower gel £1.80 Great for sensitive skin
Nutrogena Norwegian Formula lip balm £2.99
Simple eye make up remover
And not particularly cheap, but cheaper than Jo Malone etc, my favourite scent is Clarins Eau de Jardin £36 and lasts me all year

twilightcafe · 21/06/2020 19:44

I bulk buy the following at Aldi:
Q10 serum
Pixi Glycolic acid dupe
3D mascara

kemosabeimalone · 21/06/2020 19:50

Too legit mascara from Aldi.

L’Oréal Preference box dye in ‘Dublin’ (formerly mango) better than hair salon product for creating a beautiful permanent copper red.

Nivea eye make remover - blue liquid. Only one that doesn’t leave oily film in my eyes which gets on my contact lenses.

Mangofandangoo · 21/06/2020 20:08

@StarShapedWindow another vote for blisteze here! Magic stuff

MadamShazam · 21/06/2020 21:26

Another vote for Nivea Soft. I get the massive tubs in Home Bargains for a fiver, and use it all over. Love it. Never makea me break out and my skin is lovely and soft. Also just discovered CerVe Smoothing cleanser with Salicylic acid, and I love it! Its about £12 a bottle but it lasts for ages as a little goes a long way.

I’ve recently fallen in love with Nivea Rose Micellar range of skincare and also Nivea Q10 with VitC products for face and also body. I get the Rose range from Home Bargains or Savers and the Q10 from Savers and Superdrug.

My top recommendations would be;

Nivea Rose Micellair Gel Wash, Micellar water, the 2 in 1 Cleanser and Toner.

Nivea Rose Shower Gel

I also use the Garnier Rose Toner alongside.

Nivea Q10 + VitC; Eye cream, sheet masks, sleep in melt mask, Body creams and gels, ESPECIALLY the firming one it’s the best body lotion I have ever used.

I am usually a really high end girl! Kerastase for the hair, La Prairie Caviar foundation etc.

The Nivea stuff has been a revelation after Pixi and various other expensive skincare lines WRECKED my skin with painful cystic spots. I cheated with a bit of Pixi Rose tonic the other day and whaddya know, two days later, two cystic type spots after months of beautifully clear skin.

The red Tressemme Keratin range is pleasantly surprising.

I hate the sweet smell but Dr Organics Manuka Honey hand cream is outstanding.
Currently so cheap in the Penny Sale at H&B.

Korean. Italy. Towels. Will. Change. Your. Life.

AWESOME. Cheap. Wonderful.

Decent hair, skin, nails vitamins are worth their weight in gold.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 22/06/2020 08:48

Does anyone know of a good retinol hand cream for night, and if like my face, I'd need something with Vit C to use in the day?

Also a good SPF hand cream for dat?

Determined what are those cloths you speak of?!! I've heard of them but not sure exactly what they are. How can they be Korean and Italian at the same time Grin?!
Can you tell me where you get yours from please? Ta!

DeterminedLittleBugger · 22/06/2020 09:03

www.amazon.co.uk/pcs-Asian-Exfoliating-Bath-Washcloth/dp/B004C8DR1U/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=korean+italy+towel&sprefix=korean+ita&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1592812802&sr=8-4

I think they are a Korean “thing” but the cloth might be inspired by something Italian 🤷🏻‍♀️

The ones above are the ones I bought. The Green are for the body, the Pink for the face.

Sorry I don’t think I can help you with the hand cream! I think I’d perhaps just apply a normal handcream (like the gorgeous Manuka one I mentioned) then a retinol at night and regular hand cream plus whatever SPF you usually use on your face. I like Neutrogena Age Shield 110+. It’s pretty cheap but I buy in bulk in the States. You can import from eBay etc though x

MorrisZapp · 22/06/2020 09:09

I randomly discovered Sainsbury's satsuma range. Omg, it's so bright and fruity! Absolutely love it. Currently the gift set contains a big shower gel, a small body butter and a hand lotion for EIGHT QUID!

Truly an uplifting treat. The hand lotion is very light, beautifully refreshing and perfect for using multiple times a day after covid scrubbing. You'll need something richer at night.

MorrisZapp · 22/06/2020 09:13

How do the Korean cloths differ from exfoliating gloves from eg Primark?

DeterminedLittleBugger · 22/06/2020 09:26

There is zero comparison, truly.

I suggest that if you get them to watch some of the videos about how to use them effectively.

Your dead skin goes into these little white balls and flakes off and you look glowing afterwards.

WellTidy · 22/06/2020 09:34

I love the Korean Italy hand mitt towel things too.

Garnier micellar water for sensitive skin (pink lid) is the best make up remover I've ever used.

MUA twelve eyeshadows palette from superdrug.
