When did you start going grey?

I got my first grey at 17 and now at 28 this is the longest I've gone without dyeing it and have discovered that my roots are about 20% grey!
Normal?!
How grey are you? When did it start?

I first noticed a pure white hair it wasn't even grey at 26 and they keep coming through if I dig through my hair to find one! Sometimes I catch a glimpse of very light hair and know it's a grey one.
I've seemed to skip the silver fox grey and gone straight to a 90 year old pure white 'grey'

YorkshireParentalPerson · 14/06/2020 13:26

My early teens, I died then till I was 40 then stopped as my greedy would not take any color at all.

I now have a completely gray /silver / white cap framed by dark hair. Sounds very weird but actually looks ok.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/06/2020 13:26

I was about 35 but they come through pure white. I don’t do anything with them. I only have a few but I can’t be doing with all that dying business.

MattBerrysHair · 14/06/2020 13:32

I noticed my first grey hair at 19. I dyed it until a couple of years ago when I developed an allergy to hair dye. I'm 38 now and it looks like this...

When did you start going grey?
LaughingDonkey · 14/06/2020 13:44

When I was 32 a female colleague came over to me while squinting her eyes. Her gaze was aimed at the top of my head. She then quickly snatched one of my hairs with a snipers precision. As I was sitting there in state of a light shock, she quietly inquired if she should ''rip out the evidence of my rapid ageing'' 🤣🤣🤣

chateaudekaleidoscope · 14/06/2020 13:45

Around 31 I started with the grey hairs.

Everley · 14/06/2020 13:45

I started at 19, pure white strands the full length of my waist-length hair. I’m still not convinced it’s the ageing process, it was almost like overnight lots of full strands turned white. I’m 33 now and I’d say my hair is 30%-40% white and I don’t dye it. I occasionally contemplate it but them a stranger will compliment me on my hair and I change my mind again. If my hair is styled it looks quite nice. If it’s frizzy and just shoved into a messy bun I look like Hagrid from Harry Potter Blush

justilou1 · 14/06/2020 13:46

I’ve just started but I’m pretty blonde, so maybe there’s more and I haven’t noticed them. I’m turning 48 this year. Last year I had a massive hair loss and I think it’s not unrelated. I think think that the hair that fell out has been replaced with grey. It has a different texture. Doesn’t look bad though, it has just changed the colour of my highlights, I guess!

DoorstoManual · 14/06/2020 13:47

Found my first grey one when I was twelve, then nothing until I was eighteen and then about thirty all bets were off, by thirty eight I was blonde, and a stunning shade of grey by the time I was fifty two.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 14/06/2020 13:49

I’ve had the odd few in the past five years or so, but I’m starting to get a lot more around my temples. Overall I still look brunette. I’m 38.

Must have inherited my hair from my dad as my mum was very grey by my age.

weebarra · 14/06/2020 13:51

When I was 40, I've got one long grey lock but I'm still mostly dark.

SoloMummy · 14/06/2020 13:56

Early 30s and 15 years later it took up pace....

Regularsizedrudy · 14/06/2020 14:04

I’m the same as you :( I think it’s genetic

Pipandmum · 14/06/2020 14:23
  1. Decided to stop dying it at 25 only for new stylist to ask how old I was as she said I had ' a lot of grey hair for some one your age'. Straight to the shop for some dye after that! I'm 58 and would say I'm 80% grey judging by my lockdown roots (hair colour in as I write in preparation for seeing more friends soon).
NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 14/06/2020 14:32

I'll let you know when I get there. I'm 53 so quite please to be honest Blush

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 14/06/2020 14:32

pleased

Thighmageddon · 14/06/2020 14:40

48/49 but there's not very much, probably less than 5%.

BobGalaxy · 14/06/2020 14:44

I'm 32 and it's happening now, finding new ones all the time! I have dark brown hair so they're pretty obvious.

bravotango · 14/06/2020 14:45

I have natural reddish blonde hair and just found my first grey! Aged 27.

Mmsnet101 · 14/06/2020 14:56

16ish, just a few and it's gradually got more but only at the top front which is annoying. Judging by my lockdown roots it's only about 10% of my very thick hair, but very noticeable because of where it is (I'm 30 this year).

My gran was also completely grey by the time she was 25 so I think it's inherited from her. She was also very dark to begin with and very thick hair.

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/06/2020 14:58

A few days after I gave birth at 39 is when I got my first white hairs. I could probably pluck them all but there are around 6-7.

DressingGown87 · 14/06/2020 15:04

16 was my first grey hair. 23 I had a lot, and by 26 I was fully grey, give or take a few strands. Since lockdown I have had to dye my roots 3 times, usually get it done by the hairdressers every 3weeks as it grows fast. Use Fudge root concealer between appointments. Which is great. Spoke to my GP as I hated it, said it was genetic, which figures as my dad went grey as a teenager.

Happyralphymummy · 14/06/2020 15:12

I found my first grey hair age 18. I'm now 40 and very grey around the the temples and fringe area but just the odd few further back.

ExpletiveDelighted · 14/06/2020 15:19

30 but I'm in my early 50s now and still only have odd random ones scattered about (dark brown hair so they do show). I pull them out.

LizB62A · 14/06/2020 17:36

I was 12
I was very grey by 27 then coloured it from 30 to c. 55
Loving having grey hair now and not having to bother with recolouring !
