I’m getting married for the second time in December. I’m in my 50s, 5’9, size 14/16, hourglass shape but a bit more around the middle these days. I don’t want a full on wedding dress, I do want long, sleeves of some sort, v or low neck, and not a big skirt - so I can actually move! I’ve found 2 completely different dresses I love on Pinterest - the white version I’d probably have to get made as I have no idea where I could buy it, the green I love but would show every lump and bump and skirt is too full I think. So, thoughts? Can anyone point me in the direction of upmarket dresses online (not the ones for proms/made in China..). Budget up to £1000 for the right dress! Would love some help!

Me again! You’ve all been so helpful so far... I’d like opinions on this style of dress. Came across a seller on Etsy who does “Boho” style which is probably not me generally but I think these are absolutely beautiful - although I did say not weddingy!! I think they’d go well with the venue - barn - and our “theme” which is Viking 🤣🤣. Not that we’ll dress as Vikings I hasten to add! Just decor/food. Yes we are a bit mad! Thoughts on the dresses? And what kind of undies with a low back? Although the designer has said she can alter the dresses..

A large pair of pants, Sloggis or the like. But where would you put your boobs? Are they self supporting?
I’d be concerned about getting my sleeves in the gravy but I’m more practical than romantic.

However...beautiful dress!

🤣🤣 it’s the boobs which are always the problem! I don’t know if 38F can be self supporting!! I would also get normal sleeves but with a cuff of some sort. So do you think it’s an “all age” type of dress?

This one has less low front

And this one has a more “skimming” shape which is handy for lumpy bits... but they all have very low backs. I think the designer can alter neckline and backs

Well those are full on wedding dresses imho. I think you should make an appointment to go and try on lots of different styles and see what looks best - maybe somewhere that does bridal and evening wear? The thing with wedding dresses is that what you might like from photos and what actually looks good on can be very different. I wanted fairly plain, simple, unstructured, but found that those kinds of dresses did absolutely nothing for me.

By the time you’ve altered the sleeves and the back it will be a different dress.
And 38F needs a dress to show them off, not be adapted for!

Oh my god I LOVE those dresses! They remind me of my wedding dress which was by Claire Pettibone - similar Boho style.

They are weddingy but not shiny with tinsel and baubles or like a toilet roll doll. I think matt lace can also hide bumpy bits. I decided against weddingy but now I think what the heck - it's a Christmas wedding..!! And I don't care that I'm 57 🤣.

Trouble is I can't go and try loads on in this current environment. I can try a mock up of these dresses - but have to order a few months in advance for the real thing as they are handmade.

The dressmakers mentioned in this thread aren't taking any more commissions as they have a back log. Can only do some alternations. Have found a few ready mades online which I can order, try and send back.
