Please help me find a dress to get married in/or dressmaker! In my 50s..

I’m getting married for the second time in December. I’m in my 50s, 5’9, size 14/16, hourglass shape but a bit more around the middle these days. I don’t want a full on wedding dress, I do want long, sleeves of some sort, v or low neck, and not a big skirt - so I can actually move! I’ve found 2 completely different dresses I love on Pinterest - the white version I’d probably have to get made as I have no idea where I could buy it, the green I love but would show every lump and bump and skirt is too full I think. So, thoughts? Can anyone point me in the direction of upmarket dresses online (not the ones for proms/made in China..). Budget up to £1000 for the right dress! Would love some help!

Have you tried a google image search on the white dress? Just need the link

wowfudge · 13/06/2020 18:11

@PerditaProvokesEnmity that crepe dress is very elegant.

I love these wedding dresses. I’m not sure if any of them are quite what you’re after but worth a look.

AuntieStella · 13/06/2020 18:28

The skirts on these might be a bit too pouffy, but might be worth a look, as I think several of the bodices would appeal to you

Forgot the link!!

@BlackCats thanks for this - I live very near Guildford. Have had a look at the website - good reviews! Any possibility of a photo of your relative in her frock?? Anyway, thank you!

Oooooh lots of lovely links to ogle - thank you all. @Jesmond - have spent the last hour browsing StillWhite! Haven’t found “the one” - most are a bit OTT weddingy (obviously!).

@Theforest it’s just an image on Pinterest and there is no link that I can find. It’s probably a no go anyway as I have big norks 🙄

I love this dress.

@Jesmond - some of those Harrods ones are fab - love seeing what other people come up with. I had a look at Harrods before and like the Talbot Runhof style with ruching. Budget can be extended for the right creation! I’ve now got to go and find the Chloe one you mentioned..

@Mingust - I have the classic red Bombshell. A definite idea though - like the gold sequins ...

Chloe - www.harrods.com/en-gb/shopping/chloe-silk-pleated-dress-15356295

Not sure if that is 'weddingy' enough, but I bet if feels beautiful on! So many gorgeous dresses in the Harrods sale.

JesmondDene · 14/06/2020 11:38

Posted too soon...though could really see the Talbot dress as a wedding dress.

Teamsmakesmescreams · 14/06/2020 15:32

@Phwooooar I’m so pleased you like them. Simple, silk, designed for women by women.
I live quite near their shop and it’s swoonsome!

JesmondDene · 14/06/2020 19:41

I also love this...

But would you consider it with being partly black?

Boopear · 14/06/2020 19:45

That Talbot one is amazing. I almost want to get married just to wear it...

TeamsMakesMeScreams · 14/06/2020 21:20

I love the Chloe dress. Elegant and a gorgeous silk fabric. Would the colour work for you? Personally I love it but I’d want to see it on. Love the sleeves. Just love! It’s a dress to put on and get on with having a fab time in.

A girl I went to primary school with makes amazing vintage dresses I follow her from afar. No affiliation but it looks like it could work:

Love the design of the SnootyFox but not black.

The Chloe dress is amazing but not for wedding dress - wish I could buy it anyway!

@Chally yes that's a lovely dress - the cut with gathers at the waist though would make my hips stick out a mile!
