LadyEloise · 31/05/2020 11:32

Sadly QueenoftheAndals has decided to bow out and not create any more Royal Style and Beauty threads SadSadSad
I'm really hoping she'll reconsider.
Are any of the regular posters interested in continuing her great work ?

Yes I agree @thisenglishlife! They're fab! Do they take you long?

That's an incredible tiara, so unique

banivani · 06/06/2020 13:34

It’s such a shame you don’t speak Swedish so you can watch the series about the royal bling on Swedish telly www.svtplay.se/video/26255842/kungliga-smycken/kungliga-smycken-sasong-1-avsnitt-1

If I was dedicated enough I’d translate it but ... I’m just not ;)

AngelaScandal · 06/06/2020 14:40

@RomaineCalm thank you kindly!

AngelaScandal · 06/06/2020 14:41

@banivani someone needs to invent instant subtitles

banivani · 06/06/2020 15:42

Aye that would be something 👍🏻

ashtyler · 06/06/2020 17:52

I left for two weeks and lost you all.

Queen has gone Sad she will be terribly missed

QuietFlame · 06/06/2020 22:06

Lovely article in the Times about Sophie (not sure if it was today, I read it on the Royal Family board)
I think after Kate Sophie is my favourite Royal , she seems so caring and compassionate and clocks up loads of engagements in normal pre Covid times.
I had a placental abruption like she did and I can totally understand how she became tearful when she returned to Frimley Park hospital a few years ago.

SeaRabbit · 06/06/2020 22:14

The Swedes have a six-button and a four-button tiara, and I think the photos above show a mixture of both of them. Fancy having that many diamond buttons.

Some have likened the four-button to a Jeep's headlights...

mrscampbellblackagain · 07/06/2020 08:10

Just read that article @quietflame and agree it is very interesting. She also looks lovely in the photo of her sat on the sofa.

She is doing really interesting and important work and it is good to see it being high lighted.

LadyEloise · 07/06/2020 10:21

Thank you QuietFlame- that article on Sophie was very interesting.
I hope the problems in South Sudan, highlighted by Sophie's visit, get the attention they deserve from the people who can make changes there.

I'd love to know more about her Irish connections. Her mother was born in Ireland, did she grow up there ?
Does Sophie have cousins living in Ireland ?
The Queen and PP have visited, as have C&C, William and Kate, Harry and Meghan and Princess Anne has been photographed at a lighthouse near Dublin.
Im not sure Sophie and Edward have.

AngelaScandal · 07/06/2020 19:42

I didn’t know her mother was born in Ireland. Irish passport for her so.

AngelaScandal · 07/06/2020 19:48

Mary O’Sullivan as was. From a family of shopkeepers. Cork /Kerry connection I wonder. I’m intrigued so I am

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 07/06/2020 21:59

Lots of famous folk e.g. Barack Obama, Princess Grace of Monaco etc have Irish ancestry
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.irishcentral.com/roots/genealogy/celebrities-irish-roots.amp

As I do myself.
Ireland is such a wonderful country.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 07/06/2020 22:10

Also got Scottish & French ancestry & a female Chinese ancestor a few hundred years back.

Out of all the celebs Brooke Shields has the most Royal & Imperial ancestry through her paternal Grandmother which you can follow back to French Royalty & through time the Holy Roman Emperors.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooke_Shields

There's many celebs out there who are descended from European royalty but then a large percentage of us are most likely X times great granddaughters of Edward III, Henry VIII, Charles II.

AngelaScandal · 07/06/2020 22:14

Princess Grace’s distant descendants were neighbours of mine growing up. Their house was like a museum devoted to her.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 07/06/2020 22:31

Bosco do you think you got your royalty interest through osmosis then?Smile

AngelaScandal · 07/06/2020 22:43

😂🤣
They even called their daughter ‘grace kelly surname’

I have no idea where I have the interest from. It’s an odd one. I have to hide it from DH 😂

LadyEloise · 08/06/2020 11:35

Sophie trivia - Paul Bettany's (actor married to actor Jennifer Connolly) late father was Sophie's godfather.
According to Wiki Smile

BlingLoving · 08/06/2020 11:54

I like Paul Bettany but have vague memory that he was involved in some scandal and I went off him. Can't remember details.

Sophie's article was good. And I liked the way the reporter demonstrated that she's asked the question re Andrew and that Sophie shut her down, but politely. No snide comments about how she "refused to talk about it, rapidly changing the subject..." etc.

Of course, with new revelations that apparently US are now officially asking for Andrew's help, this could be entertaining.

Meghan looked gorgeous in her video for the high school kids. Simple but pretty.

banivani · 08/06/2020 15:29

Bosco doesn't sound as if you have her placed yet, so. You may ask around a bit.

latedecember1963 · 08/06/2020 17:17

Boscoismyspiritanimal, my DH and sons are bemused by my interest in royalty too!
I remind them we all have our quirky interests. Theirs include music / sports statistics and Pokemon. 🙂

LadyEloise · 08/06/2020 18:10

Boscoismyspiritanimal
Is it the O' Sullivan surname that has you intrigued ?
Could you be related !!!! Smile

OP posts:
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/06/2020 18:26

My quirky interest is military history especially WW1.
I understand that both Sophie & HMQ share that interest too.
When my DM asks what do you want for Christmas, she does a trouble take as it's always make up/beauty products & books about WW1.

hoteltango · 08/06/2020 19:47

Channel 5 have got a programme called "William & Kate: Too Good to be True" next Saturday at 9:15.

I've found that Channel 5 documentaries tend to be fairly good, but if not at least it'll be 1.5 hours with lots of frocks from over the years.

frugalkitty · 08/06/2020 22:20

My dad sparked my love of history when he gave me a book about about the Russian Revolution when I was about twelve or thirteen, and I was completely captivated by the story of the Russian royal family. This was before they knew for certain what had happened to them so the tale of Anastasia was fascinating.
