Trousers that aren't jeans

Hi! I'm on the hunt for some comfy, casual trousers for wearing day to day that aren't jeans? I wear jeans all the time and find them tight and uncomfortable. Trackies or joggers are fine around the house but I'm not keen on wearing them out, even on walks etc. Anyone have any ideas? I'm a 14/16 with pretty chunky legs. Thanks Smile

Great thread. A trouser that is comfortable and casual but not a jean or jogger, is the holy grail.

I've bought some jeggings recently that are comfortable but find that the stretch on some of them can be a bit inconsistent in that they are tight when you put them on, but are falling down by the end of the day. And I prefer to wear something "smarter" in public now I'm older.

M&S do some excellent and nicely cut wide-leg trousers which are good for winter but I'm stumped in the summer.

Just noticed the White Stuff chinos are nearly £70. Does anyone whether their quality justifies that price? ( I know it's not a huge amount for a good pair of trews but most are around the high £30-40. )

redsky75 · 21/05/2020 19:22

I did order a couple of pairs from White Stuff- they've got a really good money off offer just now. Until Sunday I think. I ordered New Maison linen trouser and the Wychwood linen trouser. So will see what they're like. Thanks for zansea link will check that out Smile

Following this. I remember seeing a link to a pair of H&M trousers with a side zip (I think) on style and beauty and thinking I must try them as a jean alternative when I’d lost weight. Haven’t lost weight but have lost the link to the trousers....

@redsky75 sorry it's zanzea. I found an image.

All clothing sites have a selection of wider pants at all prices. These are right in style at present and good for coolness in summer. If you are short , you need to judge the width carefully and be moderate. If you are tall, the look elegant and sometimes dramatic. Sa offpants, in my opinion look awkward and a bit silly. You need perfect ankles and slim feet. If your legs are chunky, then maybe so are your ankles. Best length is full length down to your instep. That way your legs look longest. Good quality single jersey wider pants are cool AND DON'T NEED PRESSING. Life is too short. I am wearing a pair from Artigiano but those were expensive for me. They are worth it.

Without a doubt the best trousers for summer/ can be casual and also look dressy if needed. Ignore how they are styled in the photo, absolutely fab in black and navy and I get these every year without fail!

Ipadipod · 21/05/2020 22:44

I’ve just had a look at the Zanzea clothes on eBay and it says they come from China, I’ve always had to wait months for anything from China and then when it has arrived it’s nothing like the picture or description.

redsky75 · 21/05/2020 22:53

Wudgy I have those trousers from Matalan! Bought them in black for work last year, really like them

I've bought a couple of pairs of white stuff chinos in teal and natural. First things I've bought from there in ages.

They are fab. Really flattering slim leg cut, soft, stretchy fabric. Lovely to wear. Very impressed.

notonmywatchyouwont · 24/05/2020 09:38

Which ones are those carlywurly?

sniffysnuffler · 24/05/2020 19:45

I bought 2 pairs of Gap chinos last year and love them - one khaki, one navy. Always seem to be reduced too: www.gap.co.uk/gap/girlfriend-twill-stripe-khakis/000256476006.html?ap=7&gclid=CjwKCAjwtqj2BRBYEiwAqfzurxJuQiD7goqg9-IO7xcvPVjOV2wR6SBxhBw-5SBom4ITmLJD6r293xoCtzgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&kwid=1&tid=gupl000195

Had a pair of loose, calf length black trousers from Primark about 10 years ago - they weren't linen but looked like they were. They faded, but in a really nice way. Wore them until the bum ripped and they don't sell them any more :(

Chickoletta · 24/05/2020 20:26

M&S taper leg cotton jersey trousers. I had been looking for cool, casual trousers for so long and actually cried when I tried these on. I’ve got them in navy, black and a blue-white print which they don’t seem to be doing this year. As comfy as joggers but stylish enough to wear out. I wear them with uggs in the winter and pumps/flipflops in the summer.

It is the Boden Richmond for me all the way. I have them in every colour. They're really comfortable cos got a bit of stretch in them.

Ginfordinner · 24/05/2020 20:35

What is the rise like on those H & M pull on trousers @Duvetstay?

Duvetstay · 24/05/2020 20:43

ginfordinner high but not freakishly so... I wear the waistband of them on my natural waist as this is most flattering on me but as they're elasticated you could wear a little lower if that works better for you

rookiemere · 24/05/2020 20:52

I was about to recommend the White Stuff Maison Linen trousers, but I see you've already ordered them. I ordered them in the Denim Blue which I kept and the Taupe which I sent back. They are somewhat relaxed so you need a reasonably fitted t-shirt or top or they look a but shapeless, but they feel a bit more relaxed than jeans.

Ginfordinner · 24/05/2020 20:53

Thank you Duvetstay. They sound perfect. I really dislike low rise trousers, and find them very uncomfortable.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/05/2020 21:02

Do the White Stuff ones come up so big that you need to size down? And is the linen itchy?

rookiemere · 24/05/2020 21:21

I think the White Stuff ones are fairly true to size, they aren't itchy at all.

SpeedofaSloth · 24/05/2020 21:29

I find I need to size up one size in the Boden Richmond, does everyone?

Campervan69 · 24/05/2020 21:38

Yes I do with most of them. Although some of them I have sized up and they are enormous so always order two sizes now and send one back.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/05/2020 21:47

Thanks, Rookie. They look a possibility for work trousers.

I don't need to size up in the Richmonds, but agree that they are more worky than casual. I tend to just have cropped culottes for casual spring/summer trousers.

silentpool · 25/05/2020 07:49

Can I ask for suggestions that don't have tapered legs? I really want a pair of these trousers too but need a wider leg!
