Chanel handbags?

Do you have a Chanel handbag? I’ve been after one for years and have decided to save up and get myself one.

I will go for the classic medium 2.55 bag, I think.

So for those of you who have one, do you love it? Was it worth the cost?

I have one. Saved for a while and then committed for a birthday.
I regret it. It’s just not my style. I’m a bit more casual than the style. It’s a classic smaller size with the chain handle in black with gold hardware.

I can count on one hand how many times I’ve used it as even though I see instagrammers and tv stars wearing chanel bags with trackies etc I just don’t feel that it looks good with my style of tea dresses and floaty type skirts or longer dresses.

It’s a beautiful bag and I won’t sell it but it’s an expensive thing to have in a box in a cupboard.

Oh and it’s much more structured than I thought it would be.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 17/05/2020 11:28

Mine has the 2 flaps can’t remember the name of the model.

ShesDoesntEvenGoHere · 17/05/2020 11:31

Oh that’s disappointing Unicorn I like to think I would be the type to use it with everything.

I wouldn’t get one with a mad print or style, as I would want a classic black bag to go with everything.

Pleased that it’s structured though, I prefer that to a slouchy bag.

I've always fancied a woc. The bigger bags with chains...might be a bit hefty, I thought.

I keep caving and buying other bags instead though xD Went with a Dolce and Gabbana miss Sicily last time. Love it.

Bunnymumy · 17/05/2020 11:32

2 flap one is called the double flap I think...

daisydukes7576 · 17/05/2020 11:39

I have one, I LOVE it. In fact I have three lol and even though my jumbo classic gets worn occasionally, when I wear it it elevates me to somewhere else 😂.

I also see Chanel bags as an investment. I bought it for 2k used a few years ago now I'd probably sell for 3k so IMO do it - is never buy new though also used.

As long as you do your due diligence (receipt, box, research) you'll be fine.

Enjoy it!

ShesDoesntEvenGoHere · 17/05/2020 11:43

Ahh daisy you’ve answered my next question!

Can I ask where you bought your used bag? I’ve been looking on eBay but I’m far too afraid to part with that much money and it be a fake Shock

And yes Bunny I seem to have the same problem. I ended up spending in John Lewis on Mulberry rather than saving when what I really want is a Chanel!

I have one and LOVE it. I use it every day (well, pre-lockdown!!). A worthwhile investment.

Bunnymumy · 17/05/2020 11:49

Haha I nearly did that myself last year! There were so many nice coloured ones, teals and purples and hot pinks. But I couldn't justify it. The d and g one I got on Ebay but it was under 500 so I risked it xD dunno if I would risk getting a Chanel on there right enough.

Theres a site a bag vlogger I watch talks about a lot on youtube for second hand bags, if I can remember I'll let you know :)

Bunnymumy · 17/05/2020 11:53

Oh, it's called vestiaire collective!

cheeseycracker · 17/05/2020 11:57

I have 10 Grin

I tend to go for ones which are a little bit different, not so classic.
Ie a denim boy, a boy with fur (they don't do fur anymore), a couple of bucket bags..

ShesDoesntEvenGoHere · 17/05/2020 12:08

Thanks Bunny, off to google.

TEN cheesey I kind of hate you a little bit, a lot Grin

I have a few and use them loads. Definitely worth it in my view. Go for classic first and then branch out a bit maybe.

My first was a black caviar jumbo double flap with silver hardware and I still use it loads.

Tartyflette · 17/05/2020 12:24

A site called The Handbag Clinic sells repaired/restored designer bags, I have used them to repair bags.
i think they are very scrupulous about provenance etc with regards to what they sell and have lots of experience spotting fakes.
The bags on sale are still quite expensive....
thry have a Chanel Mademoiselle east-west flap for sale at £925 at the moment. Plus quite a few more.

MrsCalypsoGrant · 17/05/2020 12:33

How well do they wear? I look at them fairly regularly in Chanel but am never very impressed with the quality. My MIL (lived in Paris) stopped buying new Chanel when they outsourced manufacture away from France & only bought vintage from then on.

cheeseycracker · 17/05/2020 15:04

The calfskin is so soft if you use it as an everyday bag it will wear pretty quickly. Caviar leather is much more durable.

As far as I'm aware most of the bags are still made in France or Italy but always by pretty skilled craftsmen Smile

mrscampbellblackagain · 17/05/2020 15:11

My chanel say made in France on them.

Caviar is indestructible really. I also have a navy re-issue which is aged/calfskin but also very durable.

I have a pearl studded one which is calf skin and that is quite fragile and definitely not an everyday bag.

So for everyday I would go for caviar personally.

LaurieFairyCake · 17/05/2020 15:14

I love the bag part but hate chain straps - wish they did nice leather straps

Bunnymumy · 17/05/2020 15:18

I think the le boy has a bit of leather on the strap doesn't it? I would have to go that way for chanel as chains tear up my shoulders something awful.

pinkstar01 · 17/05/2020 15:25

I've been saving for one too and was planning to get a classic flap small on my 35th birthday (in 2 weeks!)
Now I'm waiting for the stores to open so I can 😩
I got the WOC when I turned 30 and I love it, it's not even black and I still get so much use out of it!

AnaViaSalamanca · 17/05/2020 16:10

I have a few, but I don't love them any more. When I was younger it was a thing, and they were cheaper. But now everyone has one (especially if you go for the classic black) and it has sort of become a bit naff in my opinion. If you love the bag, get it, you would get a lot of use out of it, but don't buy one if you are not sure. It's a lot of money and it would not necessarily always go up in price.

ShesDoesntEvenGoHere · 17/05/2020 17:26

Oh god. I’m lost in that Handbag Clinic website Sad

Oh Pink I’m gutted for you! It’s a shame you can’t buy new online anywhere really.

OP posts:
mrscampbellblackagain · 17/05/2020 17:55

chanel do not hold their price in the same way as Hermes that's for sure. But they are a lot easier to get hold of.

Tartyflette · 17/05/2020 18:00

Yes, me too Shes -- there's a bottega veneto that is very tempting ☺️
