Shein - anyone ordered from them

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 14/05/2020 15:31

Hi all
DD has been looking at Shein for clothes. Has anyone ordered from there? If so can you tell me what the quality and sizing is like. Some comments on the internet say the clothes come up small. DD is 12 and I'd say she's a size 6-8.
Thanks

I had wondered the same. My DD is 14 x

Elmo230885 · 14/05/2020 16:00

I've ordered before but I've ordered from their plus size range. The items I ordered came up bigger than expected! I'm a 16/18 and my first order I thought I'd go for 18/20 as I'd read sizes can be on the small size and I had to send stuff back. Even when I ordered down sizes they were still big and I probably could have got away with the next size down.
I know that's not massively helpful as I'm not sure what the standard sizes would be like.

beela · 14/05/2020 16:07

I've had a couple of things from there.

They were are true to size (size 10) but not brilliant quality. Very thin fabric.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 14/05/2020 16:08

Ive ordered from them and and so has my niece. Im plus size, shes not and mine have been true to size but some of my nieces shes had to size up one size. i think they have measurements for most things so if not sure, check on the measurements for each item, that should give you a better idea about sizing

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/05/2020 16:11

I do look on there and see things I like occasionally but have only ordered once and that was for some of their er...stranger sorts of fashions to use for fancy dress. Not the best quality or fit, and wasn't that cheap really. I used the reviews and photo reviews to ascertain what sizes to actually order which worked out ok.

I've heard the returns process is nightmarish but have no personal experience of it.

Do bear in mind things will likely take weeks and weeks to come, likely even more so given covid 19.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 14/05/2020 16:25

Thanks all. I was trying to steer her in the direction of new look or h&m because I also heard that returns are tricky. I really miss Primark!

Both dd and I order. I'd say Primark level of quality although I have had a few items that have been really good quality. Size can be hit or miss too, I'm an 8 and order a small, dd a 6 and orders XS

Karwomannghia · 14/05/2020 16:33

I got the crane jumpsuit and the fabric was thicker than I thought. The zip needs sewing back onto the fabric at the bottom now after wearing a few times- an easy job And I can still wear it without doing it. Sizing was about right

regularbutpanickingabit · 14/05/2020 16:33

We’ve ordered a bit recently for my dd. Pleasantly surprised by fit and fabric on 6 items, although two were terrible. Returns for those were super easy and money back in my account quickly. The stuff is similar quality to primary but not lined or anything.

WindFlower92 · 14/05/2020 16:35

Don't! Nothing looks the way it does on the models, awful quality and fit.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 14/05/2020 16:38

Ive ordered loads from them.

  1. Quality. Really, really varies- some things are good quality and absolutely fine, others are poor quality. For the price i'd say it was worth it, 80% of things ive ordered have been absolutely fine. I would say quality better than Primark overall.
  1. Orders have always arrived on time, ive never had a wrong order and have had no issues returning anything.

I like Shein a lot-some things can be hit and miss but overall its a good website

HermioneWeasley · 14/05/2020 16:41

Very small and cheap fabric. Should be alright if a size 6 who likes polyester

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 14/05/2020 16:54

Am struggling to find her clothes - lots of things out of stock at the moment. I much prefer real life shopping, since I don't have to guess at sizing!

Ipadipod · 14/05/2020 16:59

I bought a dress from them , very very thin fabric, buttons were just about sewn on enough to last a couple of wears before falling off.
I’d stick to Pretty Little Thing , Misguided, H&M or New Look .

pommedeterre · 14/05/2020 17:50

Have used shein a bit for dds, 8 and 10. DD8 is almost 100% average size height and weight, dd10 average height, slightly under 50% percentile weight. Clothes in their age fit fine. Quality is fine, not brilliant or luxurious of course, but fine.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 15/05/2020 23:00

Bought a top for work, really liked it, it was quite cheap too. I went to reach to put a file on a shelf, there was a massive rip and the sleeve half pulled off, it was not tight fitting or too small for me either. I had to go home and change, I haven't bought anything from them since!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 15/05/2020 23:06

Thanks everyone. Given that I can't guarantee the quality, I'll look elsewhere. Appreciate you all taking the time to reply

Dd14 small size 6 has just bought some items from here. Came in about 2 weeks (due 24/05). She is happy with all of them - cargo trousers (funny material but she doesn’t care), couple of stretch crop tops, socks. I stoped her ordering too much because of the various reasons above but they are ok .

Haworthia · 16/05/2020 10:15

It’s worth reading the reviews because sizing can be hit or miss sometimes, and people post photos which usually are more realistic than the model photos. Having said that, I’ve ordered dresses several times and for every disappointing dress (in terms of fit or fabric) there have been two really lovely, flattering ones, so overall it’s a thumbs up from me.

Funnily enough I’ve seen the same dress on the Shein website and H&M this week. The H&M one is £5 more expensive.

CheshireCats · 16/05/2020 10:18

DD has ordered from them. Sizing seems fine. Quality poor- hole in seam after one wear. Don't think we will order again.

corpsebrid3 · 16/05/2020 10:23

Yes I've ordered from them - they are fine with returns. Quality is variable - check the reviews (1,2,3 star ones to hear what's not right about the product) there will be leads if lazy 5 star reviews, ignore them.

avroroad · 16/05/2020 10:26

Can you not just get basics in the supermarkets for now? By the time your Shein order arrives Primark will be open again anyway!

moonset · 16/05/2020 14:00

Dreadful quality not environmentally friendly horrible fabrics

monkeyonthetable · 16/05/2020 14:02

I've ordered from them once. The sizing was true to size and the clothes were really lovely. I was expecting them to be meanly cut or horrible fabrics but saw something I loved so took the risk. The quality was equal to H&M or Primark.

monkeyonthetable · 16/05/2020 14:03

One thing I really liked about their site is they let buyers post selfies of what they look like, so you get an idea of how the clothes hang on bodies that aren't stick thin.
