Can you help me buy running leggings

I'm back running a bit, after a gap. I would love some new running gear. Ideally for summer: cropped or 7/8th length, with that mesh stuff for coolness 9not essential), no mad prints, decent enough quality and a pocket that properly fits a phone is my holy grail. None of this phone pocket nonsense that barely fits an old Nokia. How do they get away with calling that a phone pocket?

Can anyone with more knowledge than me help me find some? I have some from M&S, and they're not bad but no phone pocket. I have some old ones from Mango and fit wise and fabric they're surprisingly good.

TIA

Décathlon trail shorts are decked out with pockets (4!) but I'm not sure if they do cropped leggings. I find their shorts / leggings good for staying up, washing well etc.

I have just bought these. They are great.

Another option would be a flipbelt for your phone then you can buy any leggings you fancy. They are very comfortable, I have the version with a zip pocket for extra security.

Thank you! Off to look

Veronica - is the phone pocket big enough and do they stay up? I run into problems with tights/leggings falling down.

I got some cropped ones from Mountain Warehouse and the phone pocket is huge

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 13/05/2020 09:52

Those flipbelts look good. Are they really comfortable Daftapath? I have a type of belty thing, not a flip belt, it's years old, but I don't find it comfortable - it twists around on me and rides up.

It fits my Samsung S9plus in a wallet case safely and yes, so far I haven't had any flasher incidents 😂

zgaze · 13/05/2020 09:54

I really like my Under Armour leggings, but I don’t like a phone pocket, I have a close fitting belt for that.

salty78 · 13/05/2020 09:57

I have £20 running leggings from Decathlon. They are plain black with mesh vents. Because of the tie waist they never fall down and wash great. The pocket at the back is fine for my keys.

I also have a £7 Decathlon running belt which fits my phone. It never moves around and is washable as it gets sweaty.

I would never buy more expensive running gear when Decathlon do it so well.

Daftapath · 13/05/2020 09:58

Yes, I don't even notice that I am wearing it and much more comfortable than the arm holder I have that rubs under my arm. Walk 10+ miles regularly and it doesn't shift. Only trouble is that the pockets are all link in to each other (apart from zipped one) so sometimes can't fish out my tissues Grin

I wear mine under my top and I would say it barely noticeable.

I find that the gap leggings I have with large pockets down the side, slip down annoyingly. The gap ones without pockets sit fine!

Sweaty Betty do leggings with a pocket big enough for an iPhone, they're v v good, stay up and hold everything in too. Worth the premium price IMP.

I've also a running belt from Lululemon which holds an iPhone and doesn't spin around when running. I think it was about £25.

georgialondon · 13/05/2020 10:08

Nike or Decathlon for me. For value Decathlon are the winner. They stay up throughout my run, workout or whatever I'm doing

MoltoAgitato · 13/05/2020 10:11

Flip belts are great. My best running leggings are from Tesco. They do plain black 3/4 length which cost buttons and are indestructible- mine are about 5 years old and used several times a week.

Greywind1523 · 13/05/2020 10:14

I can also vouch for the flipbelt. I find that it doesn’t ride up at all if I tuck my top into my leggings. That way the top isn’t moving around and bringing the belt with it.

My best leggings are under armour. They’re the only ones I have that don’t fall down. I’ve got a pair of cropped and a pair of full length and both are good. They do ones designed for hot or cold weather as well.

Can you link any salty?

Is there much difference between the Flipbelt classic and the Zipper? It's not that clear on the website. Can I ask you about sizing? I'm a size 8-10, hippy - about a 10-12 on bottom

Gosh those Sweaty Betty ones are expensive!

This is timely, I'm on the hunt having got to week 8 of couch to 5k and decided that I can tentatively think of myself as a runner!

@Veronicat you definitely recommend those Amazon ones? I'm wondering if I could get away with riding in them (with chaps and boots)

Daftapath · 13/05/2020 13:53

I went for the zipper flipbelt just for the extra security for my phone and if I take my bank card with me to shop on the way home!

They do have some stretch so wouldn't stress too much about sizing, just go with the size chart. I think I could have had a size down (I'm a couple of sizes bigger than you) but mine still doesn't budge, even with phone and a whole big packet of jelly babies distributed around it.

TeaAndHobnob · 13/05/2020 13:59

I have a flip belt but I don't love it. The material is thick and good quality, very stretchy which is great but it's not good in the summer. Makes me really sweaty. I don't use it at all now and have moved on to leggings and shorts with good pockets.

I got some fantastic ones from Decathlon but they're for winter as they have fleece on the inside. I recently bought some Lycra shorts with leg pockets from a brand called Baleaf on Amazon. Lovely thick material.

WhatILoved · 13/05/2020 17:20

If anyone wants 25 quid off sweaty betty and it's their first order send me a pm and I'll send you my email for a friend referral

Retailqueenie · 13/05/2020 18:00

Will do WhatILoved - thanks!

AnnaNimmity · 13/05/2020 18:05

I have a flipbelt, but I don't think it fits an iphone in? I also have to wear it around my hips tight, otherwise it does ride up and bobble around a bit.

I have sweaty betty leggings with a pocket for a phone and zip at the back for keys etc. I much prefer these.
