Can you help me buy running leggings

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 13/05/2020 09:21

I'm back running a bit, after a gap. I would love some new running gear. Ideally for summer: cropped or 7/8th length, with that mesh stuff for coolness 9not essential), no mad prints, decent enough quality and a pocket that properly fits a phone is my holy grail. None of this phone pocket nonsense that barely fits an old Nokia. How do they get away with calling that a phone pocket?

Can anyone with more knowledge than me help me find some? I have some from M&S, and they're not bad but no phone pocket. I have some old ones from Mango and fit wise and fabric they're surprisingly good.

TIA

Asda have the running leggings you describe. £10 if I recall. Just bought yet another pair yesterday xx

AlwaysColdHands · 13/05/2020 20:53

Another sweaty betty vote. Yes, expensive but I have pairs going at nearly 7/8 years old with lots of washing and wearing.

Redcrayons · 13/05/2020 20:58

Big enough for a phone is the holy grail. I’ve got some Karrimor ones with a huge pocket but they are owned by sports direct now, so I’m avoiding them from now on.

I always use a belt I got from decathlon, but I’ve got my eye on a flip belt for my birthday.

Michaelbaubles · 13/05/2020 21:02

I’m afraid I’ve just bought a pair of Sweaty Betty and they are so worth the money, I’m ruined for other leggings now. I was reluctant for a long time but they were a reward to myself for starting to run again in lockdown and I love them. I’ve worn them four times in under a week, I never put them away because they’re the ones I want to put on every time! Now to dedicate the rest of my life to earning enough money to buy more.

lakeswimmer · 13/05/2020 21:06

I've got some from H&M which fit your description. There's a pocket in the waistband on the back which, now I come to think of it, is probably for a phone. It's never occurred to me before as I don't take my phone running!

Daftapath · 13/05/2020 21:27

My iPhone fits into my flipbelt. I also wear mine on my hips.

hotcrossbun4321 · 13/05/2020 22:12

I didn't get on with a flip belt - couldn't get it to sit right. But I got a £10 flat bumbag/pouch from Amazon which is adjustable and works well for phone and keys.

I actually find my Matalan running leggings fit really well and have a good wide waistband

Bamboo Clothing 7/8 side pocket Enduro leggings

bibbidybobbidyboo · 14/05/2020 09:17

Another vote here for Decathlon. I run at least 4x a week, own two pairs of Decathlon leggings that I rotate and they have never ever failed me.

CBADotCom · 26/05/2020 17:55

For budget, Decathlon every time. I have a couple of pairs from there which jave a back and side pocket - side pocket big enough for a phone. Oh and unlike some other cheap leggins ive tried these are 'squat proof'
If you want sonething different and funky - Tikiboo. Not the cheapest (30-35 a pair) but comfy, crazy colours and designs and again have a back pocket large enough for a phone. Oh and are also squat proof!

Wallyandasnog · 26/05/2020 18:10

Bit late to the party but I love my leggings from Fit Boutique. They have a zip phone pocket in the back of the waste band. Very reasonably priced too.

Ediemcready · 26/05/2020 18:13

Another vote for the Asda Ultimate sports leggings. They have a mesh bit at the side and a huge pocket that fits my iPhone. I never need to pull them up either. All for £10. The sizes can be out of stock a lot tho but they usually come back.

ShoeJunkie · 26/05/2020 19:28

All my running stuff is Decathlon or H&M.

Most recently bought these And no complaints so far...

I have one of those arm band things (from Decathalon again) for my phone.

Angelil · 26/05/2020 19:32

Can anyone recommend running leggings specifically for someone with a small waist and bigger hips? My running trousers always slip way down the hips even when new (and YES the correct size!) and it’s bloody annoying...
Anyone else pear-shaped out there with a good recommendation? Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Daftapath · 26/05/2020 20:22

@Angelil my tikiboos have a cord tie around the waist that might work. I am quite big on hips but also don't really have that small a waist 😩 The tie can be tightened as much as required

rookiemere · 26/05/2020 20:27

Just got these from M&S and they have the all important side phone pocket. Plus they are ace and cheap www.marksandspencer.com/printed-cropped-leggings/p/clp60441406?color=MULTI

Feedmecaffeine · 26/05/2020 21:02

The best ones that I have are Amazon Core 10, (Amazons own brand) and their the cheapest. They do ones with lattice detail on the bottom and have a nice thick waistband. The sweat wicking is also very good and they wash well. Problem is their permanently out of stock!! My expensive ones are not nearly as good. I spent £65 on a pair (sweaty betty) and they went out of shape after several washes, and they now fall down. Apparently under armour are supposed to be really good.

Lallanala · 26/05/2020 21:45

I recently bought two pairs of next Capri style running tights, they have a zip pocket at the back big enough for an iPhone. They are high waisted and do not ride down at all. For £20 I am impressed! They do them in all sorts of prints/ plain colours etc.

Wallyandasnog · 26/05/2020 22:11

@Angelil I am a similar shape and my Fit Boutique leggings are great. They have a string in the waist band so you can tighten them as much as you like and are very forgiving on the hips.

pigletpie2177 · 26/05/2020 22:17

I have various kinds but I think I like my tikiboos best as they have the high waist and a draw string. My best find this year is "fit ups" though - braces for my running leggings which means I can now wear all the ones I'd consigned to the "slip halfway down my bum when I'm running" pile.

cherish123 · 26/05/2020 22:36

I have a few from Sweaty Betty for cycling. They have a zip pocket at the back which sits about the base of your spine. It fits a mobile phone or a credit card or keys but not all 3 (maybe a small key with a phone). I often put my phone in and it's really comfortable. I also wear them for yoga. Only some of the leggings have the pocket. They are v comfortable leggings. They are also slightly big so it may be a good idea to size down.

Angelil · 27/05/2020 10:27

Thanks @Wallyandasnog and @Daftapath - I will check those out.

WhatILoved · 30/05/2020 14:09

If anyone wants a first purchase referral code for sweaty Betty let me know

dkl55 · 30/05/2020 14:40

Another vote for sweaty betty. They're great and last ages. I also just got the cycling short style ones for running in this weather. I try to wait for the sales which are always good and fairly regular.

CallingAllEngels · 30/05/2020 15:12

I love my running leggings from Lucy Locket Loves and Tikiboo.

I can fit my phone in the rear pocket but for long runs prefer to wear a running vest like
this
