Best root touch up for my hair please??

I have a dark brown and blonde put through my mousey brown with the odd the grey hair. I can’t do anything about that blonde roots obviously. With hairdressers being shut for another nearly 2 months what can I do with it to make the best of the situation? What sort of colour root touch up should I go for? A mid brown? The dark is fading and won’t be able to match it... which one is any good? The spray? Or the very expensive colour wow? Any suggestions please?

I’m not going mine till I go back to work. I have the spray for days when I want to. It’s good

I've tried the wash out root touch ups, they are expensive and look rubbish, I would recommend using a dry shampoo for blonde hair, this disguises it a bit more naturally, than the powders and paints.

I find dry shampoo make my head itchy. The blonde is quite fine, more dark in there than blonde so I think trying to do the whole roots blonde would look odd./.

Nadia baggot just did a home roots/dye job Insta tv vlog ... might be useful... i think she suggests going a shade lighter than your lengths colour. I found it helpful 🤷🏻‍♀️

The L'Oréal root touch up in the green can is good. I have brown hair with caramel/blonde highlights and use blondeand dark blonde (colours come up dark). Got it off Amazon, out of stock in many places though.

I've used the Clairol root touch up which is effective

I've just given up and done a box dye. Nutrisse dark blonde. It's come out better than expected

I don't like the spray in the green can as i find it makes my hair feel sticky. I found Josh Brown root smudger online. It was about £15 and is really good. You can apply to wet or dry hair and it lasts about 3 washes I think. Go a slightly lighter shade than you think. They do an online consultation to help you decide which is the right colour.

It’s interesting how different things suit different people. I have now got the dark brown L’Oréal one in the post this morning. But think it will be too dark but will give it a go when u don’t have to go out. I liked the look of the josh brown one but people said it was a comb and you can’t put it on evenly @Cosmos45? I’m not going to use a box dye or anything on it as I have really struggled the last 6 months with the colour and there is bleach on it and my hair has a tendency to pick up orange tones which I don’t want! I just want something to blend in the roots. My hair is very long and even if it put it up I have a noticeable lighter ring around my face where my natural colour is

The josh brown root smudger is a sponge with the dye in the tube (a bit like those things you can buy to polish shoes), so you just squeeze the dye onto the sponge and wipe it wear you want it. I think he does a root touch up too but this is the root smudger.

I will have another look at that then. Maybe the reviews were for something different. Is it better to use it on wet or dry hair?

I personally prefer to use on wet hair and then blow dry it. It's the only time I bother to dry it "nicely" at the moment..

I would do an all over semi permanent in a colour nearest to your own shade so it matches with any regrowth, Superdrug deliver free over £10. And they have a code on their website atm for £5 off your first order (if you dont already have a Superdrug clubcard thing).

I have used the clairol root touch up dye - very good. I think with any dye, you need to go a shade lighter than you think you need.

Noooo to scared to put any dye over it!! My Hairdresser has specially advised us not to do that if possible!if I didn’t have bleach in it maybe I would but I’m not going to.

Green can one. L’Oréal

The L’Oreal one has made my head itch. Won’t be using that anymore. Have ordered a powder thing to try as couldn’t get the josh brown one.

@Wonderingwhyme I have just discovered esalon - it was recommended on a FB group I belong to for women. Basically it seems you do an online profile and can choose to add a picture and they mix up a salon colour for you. I am waiting for mine to arrive. There are video's and tutorials on how to do your own hair at home and I purchased a brush, bowl, cape and gloves etc. You have plenty of choices to touch up roots, keep highlights etc. I am hoping this works for me and have read really good reviews. It cost £14 for the colour, considering my salon charge me about £80 for a T section root touch up then if this goes well I shall be doing this in the future. We shall see!

Oh god no I couldn’t bear the stress! If I had virgin hair I would try but honestly iv had a nightmare with my hair and colour as there is so much old colour on it! Thanks though

Did my own with some help from my teenager
Covered my grey and kept my highlights intact.
Cost me a £5 as opposed to £80 I usually pay.
Not perfect but acceptable.

OP, my hair sounds similar to yours.

I recommend: Phil Smith root spray, L’Oréal Magic Touch Spray, Batiste Blonde Dry Shampoo.

The really light blonde sprays can look a bit white/grey, but they do lighten dark roots a bit.

I also use Wella Colour Fresh semi permanent colour, my hairdresser recommended this, it lasts about 10 washes so if you don’t like it, you’re not stuck with it!

I used L’Oréal Excellence cream in 8.1
Ash blonde
My natural colour is medium to dark brown but I have lots of highlights and lowlights
So quite blonde with roots coming in dark and lots of grey too.
Just apply to roots and partings
You will need help with back and neckline
Clip your lengths out of the way.
I also watched the Nadine Baggott video on you tube
She is excellent and it's easy to copy once you have seen it.
