Best root touch up for my hair please??

I have a dark brown and blonde put through my mousey brown with the odd the grey hair. I can’t do anything about that blonde roots obviously. With hairdressers being shut for another nearly 2 months what can I do with it to make the best of the situation? What sort of colour root touch up should I go for? A mid brown? The dark is fading and won’t be able to match it... which one is any good? The spray? Or the very expensive colour wow? Any suggestions please?

@Coffeepot72 how did you buy it? Don’t you need to be a hairdresser with account through wella?

Iv asked my hairdresser (I have wella colour) what she thinks... she said if I just do the roots (so not going over the blonde) it ‘should’ be ok.... But iv just seem it only lasts ‘up to’ 10 washes!! I have to wash mine everyday as it’s greasy roots! Would get away with every other if I put it up on non wash days....

@wonderingwhyme I googled it and bought my first lot on line, and then my hairdresser started supplying it. I also wash my hair every day, so I reapply approx every 10 days. It doesn’t take long and it’s worth it to look half decent!

Coffeepot72 · 15/05/2020 20:47

@Wonderingwhyme It’s available on amazon and lookfantastic.com

Oh fab thanks . Waiting for my hairdresser to tell me what shade.... it def washes out though yeah? I’m not about to turn the blonde orange or anything? I’m hoping it will look like a deliberate balayage (although starting higher up the head than usual!)

It definitely washes out, I promise! It brightens my highlights, covers about 50% of grey and generally perks up my hair. I put it onto the roots and leave for 15 mins, then comb through the rest of my hair and leave for a further 15 mins.

You apply it to freshly shampoo’d hair, but don’t condition - then when you rinse it out, you can use conditioner.

If you struggle to find it, send me a PM and I will order you some from my hairdresser 😃

Thanks @Coffeepot72

I’ll happily do it every other week until I can see my hairdresser, hopefully that would only be about 3 times! How many applications are in a bottle?

I will be trying to just get the roots to match the dark that’s out in my hair... what will happen to any bleached bits if I accidentally get it on them?

I think you would get two applications out of each bottle. I always comb the colour through to the ends of my hair, it doesn’t react badly with the bleach.

There’s no peroxide involved, it just seems to add a really nice wash of colour to your hair, making the contrast between the roots and ends look a lot less obvious. I used 8/0 first time, which is a warm blonde, then 10/39 last time, which is a brighter blonde. They were both fine but I found the 8/0 gave better grey coverage.

And I just use the tiniest amount of root spray on my fringe (I had no idea I had a grey fringe til lockdown!) just for a bit of extra coverage, and of course that washes out.

So hopefully this will just about keep me going until the salons reopen in July!

@Coffeepot72 my hairdresser says I should get either 5/07 or 6? Do you know how true to colour these are? My dark is usually quite dark but it has lightened a lot... my roots are mousey brown so I guess I need a light brown type?

I would definitely take your hairdresser’s advice, the colours that mine recommended (8/0 and 10/39) worked really well. I meant to say in an earlier post: if you put a plastic bag over your hair while you leave the colour on, it seems to take a lot better. Good luck, and let me know how you get on xx

Wonderingwhyme · 19/05/2020 20:30

I don’t know which of those to go with Though @Coffeepot72? Hairdresser said try either of those....?How alike are they to the hair samples?

Wonderingwhyme · 19/05/2020 20:31

6 is lighter so would it be best to try that first?

Wonderingwhyme · 19/05/2020 20:41

5/07 says light natural brunette brown...

Coffeepot72 · 20/05/2020 09:26

@Wonderingwhyme if you want to brighten things up, go for the lighter shade, but if you would prefer to tone things down, try the darker one? But you can experiment with complete confidence because whatever you do it won't last longer than 10 washes, I promise!

Wonderingwhyme · 20/05/2020 10:31

Ok fab thanks. I have ordered the brine first to try. Hairdresser said don’t go over the bleach, just do roots.... but you put it all over? What would happen if I overlap onto the blonde by accident?

Coffeepot72 · 20/05/2020 13:15

I always put the colour onto the bleached highlights - I apply to the roots and leave for 15 mins, then comb through to the ends of my hair and leave for another 15 mins? It has always been fine?

VeganCow · 21/05/2020 00:12

@Coffeepot72 does the Wella stuff actually blend into partial grey hairs? And does it darken the lengths at all if you’re prone to colour build up?
