I’d like to get some new dining chairs and need some kitchen/dining room inspiration!

This is our table and these are our current chairs. Want something a bit more modern but that aren’t going to date...

I think the fact you’ve asked in style and beauty means you won’t get an answer.....

Sheepareawesome · 11/05/2020 20:23

Well ours are covered in scratch marks and dried on food.... Probably not the look you want! However they have aged well considering.

I think plain wood finish is best as you can sand out any scratches. Ours are part painted which is a pain as it shows all the chips where the kids knock them into the table. Wood doesn't date either, if you keep it plain - no style means no going out of style.

Palavah · 11/05/2020 20:27

Mine are white Eames eiffel style. They are now using them in McDonald's so i think i might have to replace them. Are you haply with the overall look of the room? If not have you tried Pinterest etc for inspiration? Are you keeling the settle?

Ihavenoidewhatsgoingon · 11/05/2020 20:27

Wood is easy to clean and hard wearing

I like the set you have - can you get some cushions you can change?

Ihavenoidewhatsgoingon · 11/05/2020 20:29

Maybe you could paint the table legs a different colour to give the place a new look?

User68953378975 · 11/05/2020 21:00

Thanks all. They are nice heavy oak but have black patches on them where I stupidly hung damp washing on them in winter! Maybe I’ll try and sand them..?

Mine are practically the same as yours OP. With a matching table which is looking a bit tired. I added a new tablecloth today which has cheered things up. Or perhaps you could paint them?

Ninkanink · 11/05/2020 23:05

These, in a mix of colours.

I agree, you could paint the table legs in a colour that appeals, then sand and paint the chairs in a coordinating colour.

@Ninkanink where are those chairs from?

I think the IKEA ones are a good option. The White is cheerful and bright, and you could paint the table legs to mix things up a bit as well and pop against the white/wood.

Ours were bought from John Lewis but they are available from various retailers that carry Eames designs.

User68953378975 · 12/05/2020 11:54

I like the mid century feel of these but not sure it works with our table..

I love Eames chairs, @Palavah said she saw them in Macdonalds though!

Ninkanink · 12/05/2020 12:07

Doesn’t bother me at all, I like a good McDonald’s meal once in a while and I’m just happy to be comfortable and have the pleasure of looking at a classic design item whilst eating it. Wouldn’t relate it to my own home or my sense of style and decor...

I could do with a burger and fries right now actually!

onemorepringle · 12/05/2020 12:10

We have the ones you have I think. www.sklum.com/uk/ seems good - my friends got some nice chairs from there.

Omg I didn’t mean to attach the photo of me acting like an idiot in my kitchen 😂😂😂

User68953378975 · 12/05/2020 12:36

Those chairs are lovely. Also love Eames chairs.

Do you think tolix chairs would look odd with our table as they’re so industrial?

OP posts:
Ninkanink · 12/05/2020 12:41

It kind of depends on the rest of your space (kitchen/dining room) and what the general style is - it’s best to look at the room as a whole rather than just the table and chairs.

RoseMartha · 12/05/2020 12:46

Well mine are mostly broken so could do with inspiration myself.

Sgtmajormummy · 12/05/2020 13:22

They may not be much to look at but they’re SO comfortable with their curved back rest and stable, splayed legs.
I got three from a second hand shop for €40, they were dated yellow pine. Now they’re sanded, primed and had two coats of paint, another €15. Big poofy chair cushions from fabric I already had. A week of my spare time.

People have preferred them over our ordinary dining chairs (picture 2) which are narrow and backache-inducing for WFH.

Here’s the rest, so modern-ish. Excuse the messy toys!
