Are you looking better or worse in lockdown?

At the start of lockdown I was definitely looking worse! Just generally knackered, wearing tatty clothes and probably a bit fatter😳

But now that we’re about 6 weeks in I definitely think I look better! I’ve stopped wearing make up but have gotten used to the sight of my bare face. Been running and cycling lots so feel quite fit. I mean, I don’t look amazing (I still looo knackeredšŸ˜‚ and I probably should make more effort with my hair etcšŸ˜‚) but on the whole I am surprised I don’t look worse!

Do you feel you look better or worse in lockdown? And is anyone else enjoying looking more natural?

I look worse. Much worse. I usually have my short hair cut every 3-4 weeks so that looks shit. Luckily I don't have it coloured. I've worn virtually no make up for weeks but my skin looks puffy and red. I've upped my exercise, continued to eat the same way as before, ie watching what I eat during the week but relaxing it a bit at the weekends (wine) yet I've gained weight. I'm living in leggings and a sweatshirt. I feel like I've aged at least 5 years and just look fat, plain and middle aged whereas I thought I looked ok before. Hmm

Fatter and greyer BUT I've been sticking to my skincare regime religiously (mainly because I had a very expensive online appointment with my dermatologist and I needed to justify spending the money) and my skin is looking much better than usual, despite drinking more than I normally would.

Style-wise I have totally lost the plot, I can't remember the last time I wore anything other than joggers.

Put on weight since I can't go swimming which is my usual cardio (pre-lockdown I swam every day), struggling to find something to replace it. Never wore makeup or dyed my hair so no change there. Have a pixie and it was last cut in February so looking very shaggy now! Getting up at 4.30 to do a full days work in the morning then swapping with DH and doing childcare in the afternoon which is exhausting and a long day so very tired. No time to myself, once DH finished work I fall into bed.

Hair is worse, skin and nails a little better, trying to stay fit by running but more than making up for it by eating more so I’m fit but fatter.
Mainly I’m trying not to look too hard.
I think the best thing is that I’m generally worrying about my appearance less, I have a tendency to get a bit obsessively critical of myself, it doesn’t feel so important now.

Much worse. I’ve got an enormous spot in the middle of my forehead that won’t go away, I’ve gained a lot of weight, I’m home alone with the kids most of the time so barely get time to shower

I'm looking better. Didn't get off to a great start as my skin flared up and I had cystic acne along my jaw line. I also went into holiday mode and started drinking too much, baking everyday and eating loads of crap. That made me feel awful so I started going for a long walk each day, I got spearmint tea to help my skin and improved my diet. Now I am running every day, using my fitness pal to count my calories and going to bed earlier. It's paying off and I feel so much better. I just hope I can keep it up once life gets a bit more normal again.

I'm looking and feeling a lot less tired as I'm working at home and don't have the daily commute.

But my hair looks awful with grey roots and split ends. I've been using root cover up and hair masks but I can't wait to see a hairdresser.

I could also do with a brow wax.

I've gained a few pounds but I try and get out for walks.

I dont look much different IMHO but I feel much better. I've lost a stone (for context still got 4 to.go). Not quite down a dress size yet but my size 16 clothes are definitely looser. I feel more relaxed and apart from missing my parents I am well. Hair could do with a trim but as long as I straighten it it's ok...

BikiniBottomsUp · 02/06/2020 21:47

Older, due to stress and poor quality of sleep.

Inthebelljar · 02/06/2020 21:50

Almost better. No makeup for months (bar about two days) so skin is clear. I can cut my own hair because it’s curly thus doesn’t look uneven, and have taken up running so feeling fitter. However, i’ve got a bloody cyst on my head that I swear up and down has gotten bigger since the last time I was obsessing over it, and with no GP appointments available for it yet, I’d say that was dragging me down.

Crystalspider · 02/06/2020 23:04

Worse, got fatter, can't fit in most of my clothes now, must do something about that now, going back to work soon!
Hair is blonde and tried highlighting it, not bad but far from it's best
Skin is good(thanks to botox before lockdown and good skincare)
Nails dreadful, missing my nail extentions and lash lift have tried DIY but doesn't work as well.
I still wear make up everyday just because I enjoy the ritual of it and makes me feel better.

Such an interesting thread...

I've been losing weight since going (back) onto Weight Watchers in Feb - slowly since lockdown as I'm missing my daily 10k+ steps, but running loads. Reckon I've lost about 8lbs since I've been at home. Easier in some ways as no big nights out and hard to snack in the kitchen with the kids in there all day "working" Grin

Fitter, on the whole, thanks to the running.

Skin definitely improved from minimal/no makeup and (more to the point) consistently getting enough sleep for the first time since DD1 was born (she is now Y7...)

Hair: on the plus side I had it cut quite short (for me) the week before lockdown so that's OK, but the colour is grim. Have just got a Josh Wood shade shot thing which I hope will sort out the brassiness. Have also realised I probably don't need to dye my hair really, the grey is all underneath at the front (for now) so could manage it with a root concealer.

Treated myself to a couple of nice yoga pants and sweatshirts during the "loungewear" phase of lockdown, mixing those with the more relaxed end of my usual office gear for Zoom calls etc during the week. Also helps differentiate work/non-work time in my head, which isn't getting any easier even in week eleventy or whatever it is now.

Deathraystare · 03/06/2020 14:54

Well my hair has grown to my shoulders now and I like it - it is naturally very wavy. It tends to straighten out if I grow it any more so will probably keep it at this length. I am a lot happier since I dyed the grey away. I have not made more effort but as I am still working some days I do put make up on.
