10 Fragrances for Life

JMAngel1 · 04/05/2020 12:03

There's a popular Youtube video called the above and I thought it would be fun for us to list our all time favourite perfumes.
I was thinking about this as I was going through a memory and found an old diary from 10 years ago of my favourite perfumes and it hasn't changed much at all!
I also would love to read everyone's lists as with lockdown, I'm really missing smelling new fragrances in department stores - spring is usually a big launch time and I can easily lose an hour immersed in the fragrance halls! Instead I'll go down a Fragantica rabbit hole!!

So my !ist is as follows

  1. NR for her EDT - my absolute favourite. all year round
  2. D&G Light Blue Intense. S/S
  3. Tom Ford Neroli Portafino. S/S
  4. Chanel Chance. S/S
  5. Stella McCartney Stella. Summer
  6. Agent Provacateur Maitresse Spring
  7. Floral Street Ylang Ylang Espresso A/W
  8. Replica By the Fireplace A/W
  9. Gucci Rush A/W
10. Nina Ricci Bella S/S

A fragrance I'm dying to smell as it featured in so many of the YT videos is Marly Delina - does anyone have this and if so, do you think I would like it based on my list?

Just in case anyone else (like me) is becoming desperate - PP is opening again for orders from 30th May Wink

SurferRona · 17/05/2020 10:57

This is great, what a useful thread!

Not sure I’ll get to 10 but I wear:

Prada- infusion d’iris
Frederic Malle- l’eau d’hiver
Used to wear Gucci Envy (still have some somewhere)
Armani prive- cuir amethyst
Occasionally Tom Ford- Violet Blonde

But my all time favourite is a discontinued Gucci L’arte di Gucci. A beautiful evening scent, rose with a leather base. Gorgeous. Didn’t wear for 20 years then rediscovered it in a cupboard recently.

Would love to know what is similar to this if anyone can suggest it!

ZoomMeetingHell · 17/05/2020 11:41

@SurferRona

L’Arte Di Gucci gets a LOT of love from vintage perfume lovers. I’ve never sniffed it, sadly, but I’ve heard people compare it to:

Paloma Picasso
Sisley Soir de Lune
Cartier Le Panthere
Emmanuel Ungaro Diva
Etat Libre Rossy de Palma
Guerlain Rose Barbare

Maybe worth sampling these?

SurferRona · 17/05/2020 11:49

Oh my gosh @ZoomMeetingHell, that’s so great, thanks! I don’t remember smelling any of those so something to aim for after lockdown!

Karmagoat · 17/05/2020 12:21

Givenchy Amarige
Chanel Coco
Chanel Cristalle
Jean Paul Gaultier Classique
Guerlain Samsara
Laura Biagiotti Venezia (discontinued Sad)
Avon Timeless
Dior Fahrenheit
Dior Poison
Cacharel Eden

caperplips · 17/05/2020 17:31

I love:
Acqua di Parma, Colonia
Le Labo, Bergamote 22
Le Labo vetiver 46
Acqua di Santa Maria Novella Profumo
Santa Maria Novella Opoponax
Tom Ford, Neroli Portofino
Tom Ford, Costa Azzura
L'eau de L'Artisan
Jo Malone, Grapefruit cologne - I wore this on my wedding day 17 years ago so it holds a special place in my heart but I don't wear it, or any of hers anymore

caperplips · 17/05/2020 17:34

In my youth I wore Paloma Picasso for years until I replaced it with Issey Miyake which I also wore for years.

Then I wore Eau d'Orlane until it was discontinued - I loved that scent

TheCanterburyWhales · 17/05/2020 19:07

Karma- Venezia isn't discontinued. You can still get it quite cheaply. It might not be stocked everywhere though. I love both Venezia and Roma (v similar to both Obsession and Shalimar)

Greenpop21 · 17/05/2020 19:24

Cristalle -Chanel
L.I.L.Y -Stell McCartney ( please bring it back!!!)
Envy -Gucci(please bring it back!!!)
Eau Dynamisante -Clarins
Chanel no 19
In the winter I sometimes like Chanel no5 for evenings.

Greenpop21 · 17/05/2020 19:28

I have Yardley Jade but it’s not quite Cristalle. It lacks the floral notes.

lilgreen · 17/05/2020 19:36

Perfume Parliur do a fab Gucci Envy copy called Goochi Enveeees Grin but it’s very, very close. Why do they discontinue perfumes???? 2 of my absolute faves gone!

Greenpop21 · 17/05/2020 19:40

I tend to live citrus /green scents but they never last on me. Was talking about Dewberry today with my teen. My mum used to go mad because I’d stink the house out with bath foam and the perfume. I’d hate it now. DD wears anEternity copy from pp and it’s lovely on her. Far more sophisticated than me at 16.

Greenpop21 · 17/05/2020 20:19

This thread has made me want to buy Chanel Cristalle eau de parfum. I can’t do it, the gods are against me. Boots don’t have it, even bloody Chanels site won’t work! Grrrrr

Caniche · 17/05/2020 21:20

These are probably my 10 most significant fragrances, each of which I associate with a period in my life:

White Musk- The Body Shop
Venezia- Laura Biagiotti
Gio- Giorgio Armani
Sensi- Giorgio Armani
Coco- Chanel
Daisy- Marc Jacobs
Coco Mademoiselle- Chanel
Sensous- Estee Lauder
Ivoire- Balmain
Noa- Cacherel

If anyone has any suggestions of others I might like that would be great. Been wearing Noa for the past few years and absolutely love it. Have tried others but keep returning to this. Only wished that it came in an EDP.

TheCanterburyWhales · 17/05/2020 21:22

If you like Noa I think you'd like Infusions d'Iris (one of the most nominated on this thread seemingly) it's got the same lovely clean soapy note.

ThePawtriarchy · 18/05/2020 05:41

@Greenpop21 John Lewis?

Greenpop21 · 18/05/2020 06:51

Out of stock.

Pinkarsedfly · 18/05/2020 06:59

@IndieTara - L’Occitane Verbena is a gorgeously fresh lemon, and it lasts quite well.

Honeybee85 · 18/05/2020 07:02

@Caniche

You might love Eclat de Aperge from Lanvin as well. Perhaps also Chanel No 5 l'eau premiere and Chanel No 19 Poudre.

For some more intense powdery scents: Teint de Neige by Lorenzo Villoresi and Shalimar by Guerlain. I really hate the latter, it smells like medicine on me but appearently a lot of people love it including Queen Maxima of The Netherlands. The Shalimar bar soap is lovely though.

lilgreen · 18/05/2020 07:07

Can’t beat L’air du Temps for a clean powdery scent.

Greenpop21 · 18/05/2020 07:34

I’m now obsessed with tracking down Cristalle. I wore it on my wedding day and used the shower gel and body lotion so it really lasted. Can’t even find those. Hope it’s not being discontinued.

Whatevernext1 · 18/05/2020 07:45

In no particular order:

Chanel - Gabrielle

Jo Malone - Nectarine blossom and honey

Jo Malone - English Pear and Freesia

Jo Malone - Mimosa and Cardamom

Jo Malone - Honeysuckle and Davana

Jo Malone - Silk Blossom

Ralph Lauren - Romance

Ralph Lauren - Ralph

Guerlain - Insolence

Kenzo - Flowers

My list could go on,I'm a massive perfume addict 😂🙈

Whatevernext1 · 18/05/2020 07:48

I somehow missed out Diptique - Do Son a lovely clean fresh fragrance

JMAngel1 · 18/05/2020 08:51

Mmmm Nectarine Blossom and Honey is gorgeous but lasts around 1 hour on me - would love it as an EDP

I had Eclat de Arpege one year as an alternative to Light Blue EDT (before they launched the Intense) and it is good - more sophisticated than LB - yes, very citrus.

Me too. I love it, and English pear and freesia is the same. Literally lasts about half an hour and then nothing.

Perfume Parlour copies of jo Malone perfumes tend to be longer lasting in my experience
