10 Fragrances for Life

JMAngel1 · 04/05/2020 12:03

There's a popular Youtube video called the above and I thought it would be fun for us to list our all time favourite perfumes.
I was thinking about this as I was going through a memory and found an old diary from 10 years ago of my favourite perfumes and it hasn't changed much at all!
I also would love to read everyone's lists as with lockdown, I'm really missing smelling new fragrances in department stores - spring is usually a big launch time and I can easily lose an hour immersed in the fragrance halls! Instead I'll go down a Fragantica rabbit hole!!

So my !ist is as follows

  1. NR for her EDT - my absolute favourite. all year round
  2. D&G Light Blue Intense. S/S
  3. Tom Ford Neroli Portafino. S/S
  4. Chanel Chance. S/S
  5. Stella McCartney Stella. Summer
  6. Agent Provacateur Maitresse Spring
  7. Floral Street Ylang Ylang Espresso A/W
  8. Replica By the Fireplace A/W
  9. Gucci Rush A/W
10. Nina Ricci Bella S/S

A fragrance I'm dying to smell as it featured in so many of the YT videos is Marly Delina - does anyone have this and if so, do you think I would like it based on my list?

D&G Feminine was my signature in the early 2000s. I got a 30ml, barely used bottle on eBay a couple of years ago and I guard it previously. It’s so expensive now! I wish they’d bring it back.

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 09/05/2020 11:58

preciously

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 09/05/2020 11:59

I keep seeing other people’s list and thinking ‘Damn, that should be in my top 10!’. It’s so hard to pick just 10.

AesopsMables · 09/05/2020 12:09

In no particular order, my top 8 (need to find another 2)

S/S

Prada - Infusion D'Iris
Clean reserve - Rain (reserve blend)
Vilhelm parfumerie- Peony Couture
Byredo - Blanche

A/W

Cartier - Baiser Vole
Chanel - Coco Madam
Louis Vuitton - Mille Feux
Jo Malone - Wood Sage & Sea Salt

snappycamper · 10/05/2020 09:56

I love infusion d'iris too. Never met anyone who wears it but there are tonnes on this thread! Going to have to give some careful consideration to my top 10 but I will be back

Bienchen · 10/05/2020 11:51

Prada - Infusion D'Iris
Hermes - Eau de Mandarine Ambrée
Clarins - Eau Dynamisante

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/05/2020 20:55

I love perfume on other people but I don't wear it myself .
My DD is using Stella which is quite rose based .

I bought No15 Liz Earle (because it reminded me of the Black Impulse "Nirvana" spray that you had to carve your way through a curtain if to get into an 80s NiteClub) but it smelled 'rubbery' like one of those squishy dolls you buy for a young child .

I am tempted now and I'm taking a punt with Floral Street Electric Rhubarb . Grin

I love perfume but finding one that suits is very difficult - I think I have "funny skin" as perfume usually never smells the same on me as in the bottle.

These are the only 3 I wear currently:
1 - Jean-Louis Scherrer (1979) - EDT for S/S & EDP for A/W. This is my favourite perfume ever - I am always looking for something similar. Have a big stock as always worried it will be discontinued.
2 - Prada Infusion D'Iris
3 - Jacomo Silences (in the black bottle)

These are favourites from the past that either no longer smell great on me or have been discontinued:
Lanvin Arpege - original from the 70s/80s - this was the first perfume I ever wore. The reformulation is not the same.
Giorgio of Beverley Hills - Red - 80's favourite
Isabella Rossellini - Manifesto
Vivienne Westwood - Boudoir
Ralph Lauren - Romance
Caron - Nocturnes
Robert Piguet - Bandit

@MissBattleaxe - I love ordering samples & have just ordered the Papillon set. Really looking forward to trying Dryad!

MadamShazam · 12/05/2020 15:14

My absolute fave perfume is Jo Malone Tuberose Angelica. I feel like its the scent I've been looking for my whole life! Ultraviolet comes a close second though.

snappycamper · 12/05/2020 20:17

Late to the party but here, in no particular order, is my top ten:

Tom Ford - Black Orchid
Serge Lutens - Fleur d'Orangers
Guy Laroche - Fidji
Jean Paul Gaultier - Classique
Narciso Rodriguez - for her
Miller Harris - La Fumee
Prada - Infusion d'Iris
Yves Saint Laurent - Rive Gauche
Chanel - 19
Serge Lutens - Ambre Sultan

That was so difficult, I feel bad for Aromatics Elixir, Chanel no 5 and my lovely Plum Japonais.

JMAngel1 · 15/05/2020 06:51

I love the way you feel sorry for your favourites left out - it's like choosing favourie children Grin

Can anyone recommend a really nice lemony scent please ?

JMAngel1 · 15/05/2020 07:24

Neroli Portofino opens very lemony on me.

OP posts:
Ineedabreak19 · 15/05/2020 07:40

Try Tom Ford Grey Vetiver for a grown up citrus scent.

cloud1183 · 15/05/2020 10:22

@IndyTara

I just bought Juliette Has A Gun- Moscow Mule. It is similar to Light Blue but smells much more expensive. It’s beautiful. I’d say it was more lime than lemon though

slipperyeel · 15/05/2020 10:44

@IndieTara also try JHAG Gentlewoman, a classic citrus cologne, very summery

IndieTara · 15/05/2020 10:48

@jmangel that's Tom Ford? I have a sample and at first it smells citrussy on me but I don't like the way it smells 5 mins later

JMAngel1 · 15/05/2020 11:40

Yes Tom Ford. Aw that's a shame, I love it but it does dry down musky from the citrus which is probably why I love it so much.
@cloud1183. now I want to smell Moscow Mule - sounds amazing.

OP posts:
cloud1183 · 15/05/2020 12:19

JMAngel1

I love the JHAG brand. Moscow Mule is along the same lines as Not A Perfume and Anyway. It opens just like Light Blue but when it dries down smells much more luxurious and expensive than Light Blue. It quite potent as well. Huge projection

TheCanterburyWhales · 15/05/2020 13:12

IndieTara:

Eau d'Hadrien Annick Goutal is THE lemon for me.
Lemon by Mary Greenwell is discontinued but you can pick it up in some Fragrance Shops still and it's a grown up lasting lemon-chypre.
M&S do a range of perfumes with citrussy notes, I can't remember the brand, Monotheme possibly?
Acqua di Parma do some nice lemons as well.
4160 do one called lemon sherbet but like all of their perfumes, it's more sweet than sherbet.
Boots do a massive bottle of lemon eau de cologne which costs about a fiver.

But...lemon, being citrus, is not going to last, unless it's a lemon chypre for example like the MG. So go to Perfume Parlour and get dupes of the spendy ones. Seriously.

CoconutAmericano · 15/05/2020 13:45

1 FM portrait of a lady
2 TF Black Orchid
3 TF Tobacco Vanille
4 Clinique Aromatics
5 Bulgari Jasmin Noir
6 TF Santal Blush
7 Molecule 01
8 Kat Von D Sinner
9 Nuxe Prodigieux le Parfum
10 TF Noir pour Femme

I get so much joy from selecting a perfume each day!

JMAngel1 · 15/05/2020 14:40

I did not know Kat Von D did fragrance.
That's a lot of TF - spendy!

snappycamper · 15/05/2020 15:09

4711 cologne is lovely and lemony and cheap as chips. It almost made my top 10. It's not incredibly long lasting but layering it up with the bar soap helps

4711 Original Eau de Cologne Splash - 100 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002G789QC/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_pjQVEbMAJXV2V

MabelMoo23 · 15/05/2020 19:33

Wow what a great thread!!! So many memories!!

In no particular order

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir
JM Oud & Bergamot (it’s my husband’s and I love love love)
Thierry Mugler Angel
John Paul Gaultier Classique - the memories!!!!!
Ralph Lauren Romance - my first perfume - bought in Duty Free
Estée Lauder - Bronze Goddess, the minute I smell it, I’m transported back on holiday
Issey Miyake - Feu, forgotten about it, until I saw it on here. What memories!
Chanel - Madamoseille
Le Lebao - Tonka 25

So many I want to try but put off by cost, never knew you could order samples!!!!

I love really masculine scents, warm, woody, musky scents. Cannot bear Floral or citrus.
What are the Tom Ford’s like? Thinking Tobacco Vanille etc

Any recommendations would be fab

TheCanterburyWhales · 15/05/2020 20:06

I think Tom Fords are overrated and overpriced like Jo Malones but that's me Grin
I do have a couple of TFs, including Tobacco Vanilla but for tobacco I prefer Miller Harris.

If you like musky spicy not girly, have a bash at Andy Tauer. L'Air du Desert Marocain, Au Coeur du desert and Lonestar Memories are phenomenal.
