10 Fragrances for Life

JMAngel1 · 04/05/2020 12:03

There's a popular Youtube video called the above and I thought it would be fun for us to list our all time favourite perfumes.
I was thinking about this as I was going through a memory and found an old diary from 10 years ago of my favourite perfumes and it hasn't changed much at all!
I also would love to read everyone's lists as with lockdown, I'm really missing smelling new fragrances in department stores - spring is usually a big launch time and I can easily lose an hour immersed in the fragrance halls! Instead I'll go down a Fragantica rabbit hole!!

So my !ist is as follows

  1. NR for her EDT - my absolute favourite. all year round
  2. D&G Light Blue Intense. S/S
  3. Tom Ford Neroli Portafino. S/S
  4. Chanel Chance. S/S
  5. Stella McCartney Stella. Summer
  6. Agent Provacateur Maitresse Spring
  7. Floral Street Ylang Ylang Espresso A/W
  8. Replica By the Fireplace A/W
  9. Gucci Rush A/W
10. Nina Ricci Bella S/S

A fragrance I'm dying to smell as it featured in so many of the YT videos is Marly Delina - does anyone have this and if so, do you think I would like it based on my list?

Lush- American cream, Sakura, Karma & Big, every day scents.

TheCanterburyWhales · 05/05/2020 07:28

Butterbean- you'll have to trawl eBay I'm afraid. But it's so worth it. I wore Obsession from about 1987-1997 and then left it...I smelled it again about 10 years ago and thought "eh??" Then realised it had been reformulated. Got one from eBay and it was like time travel. The minute I opened it.

I agree with MissB's "clean" scents and would add anything with iris as a note, lovely and soapy. Prada Infusions Iris is wonderful (and the perfume parlour version of it lasts longer and is about a fiver!)

Elllllle · 05/05/2020 07:31

So many old skool fragrances I'd forgotten about! I thought this was just the fragrances you've worn for yrs and still wear otherwise could have definitely reached 10! I lived in Ck One and D&G light blue, plus Opium for nights out in the 90s.

I forget who is after a rose perfume but after searching high and low for the perfect rose, this is my fave, called Rrose: www.ellisbrooklyn.com/products/rrose-eau-de-parfum

Elllllle · 05/05/2020 07:33

Sorry Obsession, not Opium!!

It really is like time travel in a bottle for me too Whales - I rediscovered the original at my parents place on christmas!

PseudoCream02 · 05/05/2020 07:37

Oh I like this list.

I have certain perfumes I like for different occassions.

  1. Viktor Rolf Flowerbomb
  2. Chanel no. 5
  3. Issey Miyake
  4. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle
  5. Hugo Boss Woman
  6. D&G Light Blue
LauraLooDerby · 05/05/2020 07:42

Oooh I love this list! I'm going to have to go through and work out what else I'd like based on others lists!

I wear
Chanel No 19 (absolute number one favourite)
JM Wood Sage & Sea Salt (very verrrry close second)
JM Blackberry & Bay
Diptyque Philosykos

I remember smelling the white NR perfume a few years ago and taking a photo of it because I liked it and intended to buy it (never did!)

Perfume Parlour needs to reopen - I made the mistake of buying the roll on oils in various scents but didn't get on with them, so need to buy some smaller sprays!

JessicaDay · 05/05/2020 07:47

A lot of my mine are discontinued!

Gucci Eau de Gucci
Estée Lauder/Tom Ford Youth Dew Amber Nude
Chanel No5
Chanel Cuir de Russie
Penhaligon Elizabethan Rose (original not recent one)
Le Labo Tonka 25
Body Shop Ananya
Givenchy Aqua Allegoria Rosa Magnifica
Cacharel Anais Anais
Penhaligon Halfetti

Winterlife · 05/05/2020 07:50

Sisley's Eau de Soir and Jean Patou's Joy. I get a lot of compliments, particularly with Eau de Soir.

That's all I've got. I used to wear more scents (1980's Eau de Givenchy, YSL Paris, Falph Lauren Polo), but when certain things were banned from perfumes, they were discontinued, or changed so drastically, I couldn't wear them anymore. The above 2, I've worn for over 30 years. They are favourites. Expensive, but for me, worth every penny.

EdwinaMay · 05/05/2020 07:58

Not many Guerlain perfumes here. Not many of the old ones even at the airports now.
Guerlain Mitsouko - very exotic, quite sweet. But not unpleasant for others. I think I'll get some.
Ye Gods, it's 240 quid at John Lewis. .........might explain it's limited outlets!

Wrinklybags · 05/05/2020 08:08

@MissBattleaxe Brilliant, thank you. Once the shops open I know what to try before they all start smelling the same!

JessicaDay · 05/05/2020 08:13

Sorry, Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Rosa Magnifica!

rabbitwoman · 05/05/2020 08:21

I love perfume. I go round all the shops in January and snaffle all the gift sets with body lotion and shower gel and miniatures, I have about 20 on the go at once and another 20 under the bed waiting to be opened..... Yes, I have a problem, but I smell lovely....

Not many of my absolute favourites have been mentioned, apart from Mugler's Angel and Alien - but the newest one, Aura, is so gorgeous, in the funkiest green bottle.

Channel no5, absolutely classic - never in the sale..... Will save up my Boots points

Gucci - I love guilty, but would get daily compliments when I wore bamboo. I thought it had a slight washing up liquid undertone - but loved it anyway....

Yardley - just pure flowers and so British. Gift sets only £5 in the new year sale. My favourite is lilly of the Valley, lavender next.

Anna sui - sui dreams. Lovely for the spring. And jasper conran - woman. I am wearing it now, its like a sexy lemon merengue pie. Nightshade is also delicious, but I save that for autumn when it makes me feel like a cougar

I am really looking forward to opening my Good Girl as well, in its wicked bottle shaped like a shoe

And all you Jo malone officiaonados - oh, that3my dream. But in the meantime, I kid you not, the Aldi knockoffs are superb and you get a set of 5 miniatures for £15 at Christmas. The pomegranate one is so autumnal, like a bonfire....

By the way, I was wearing Britney spears Fantasy when I last saw my mum, she liked it so much she got some for herself. I read Britney made more money from perfume than music. It smells lush!!!

What a lovely thread... I've only ever worn four or five perfumes in my life really...body shop Dewberry, Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, I'eau d'issey miyake (most of my adult life and now when I even try and wear anything else the kids don't like it) , Rose by Paul Smith and Marc Jacobs Rain which I absolutely love best but which doesn't last well on me at all.

I have had a look at 4160 Tuesday and I like the sound of Ealing Green. Will check it out when they reopen for sure.
Also JM white sage and sea salt. I tend to like things that smell clean and 'Green' if you see what I mean. Anyone have any recommendations?

RoseHarper · 05/05/2020 10:58

Anthilda - Cerruti 1881 is a firm favourite of mine, wore it when I met my husband and I buy it every so often as a nostalgic reminder. Still love it.

TheCanterburyWhales · 05/05/2020 11:04

Green:
Chanel 19
Chanel Cristalle (Yardley Jade is almost identical but obvs cheap as chips- I am in Cristalle this morning, and sure, I won't need a respray unlike Jade, but hey, Jade cost me £7.99!)
Liz Earle n1.
Jacomo Silences
Balmain Vent Vert
4160 Ealing Green
Fidji - old version if you can get it, but the cheapo new formulation isn't bad.
My Greens are still packed away in my summer box Blush but those are my favourites off the top of my head.

TheCanterburyWhales · 05/05/2020 11:06

Oh, and get Perfume Parlour's version of any Jo Malone. Lasts longer because not mainly water.

I have the Seasalt woody thingy and all the lime basil wotsits and they're great. Likewise Superdrug bloom range do a lime mandarin for about £4.
