10 Fragrances for Life

There's a popular Youtube video called the above and I thought it would be fun for us to list our all time favourite perfumes.
I was thinking about this as I was going through a memory and found an old diary from 10 years ago of my favourite perfumes and it hasn't changed much at all!
I also would love to read everyone's lists as with lockdown, I'm really missing smelling new fragrances in department stores - spring is usually a big launch time and I can easily lose an hour immersed in the fragrance halls! Instead I'll go down a Fragantica rabbit hole!!

So my !ist is as follows

  1. NR for her EDT - my absolute favourite. all year round
  2. D&G Light Blue Intense. S/S
  3. Tom Ford Neroli Portafino. S/S
  4. Chanel Chance. S/S
  5. Stella McCartney Stella. Summer
  6. Agent Provacateur Maitresse Spring
  7. Floral Street Ylang Ylang Espresso A/W
  8. Replica By the Fireplace A/W
  9. Gucci Rush A/W
10. Nina Ricci Bella S/S

A fragrance I'm dying to smell as it featured in so many of the YT videos is Marly Delina - does anyone have this and if so, do you think I would like it based on my list?

Butterbean- look for a gold line around the lid. Nothing compares!

Judy, hello! I knew Chanel 19 would be on top of your list! Grin

MissBattleaxe · 04/05/2020 21:16

If you're all missing testing the testers ( I know I am) here's my blog post about where to get the best samples and discovery sets. I'm a Mumsnet blogger so i think it's Ok to post a link. Hope you find something you love bit.ly/35CenSz

Ooooh. This is keeping me very entertained of a Monday evening.

Mine would be:

Vera Wang (the original one)
Estée Lauder Pleasures
Chloe (the original one)
Issy Miyake
Chanel Cristalle
Elizabeth Arden Beauty
Chanel number five
DKNY Be Delicious
Acqua di Parma figuieur (sp?)
Ocean Dream by Giorgio (For nostalgia. I loved this in my early twenties)

MissBattleaxe · 04/05/2020 21:19

@DKanin Fragrance Direct is cheap and has all sorts of cute little treasures if you go digging. Very cheap and I've always had good service.

MissBattleaxe · 04/05/2020 21:20

@Twinkle71 so nice to meet another fan of Beafort Fathom V . I adore that one. It reminds me of pirates and spooky deserted docks.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/05/2020 21:21
  1. Manifesto by Isabella Rossellini. Was discontinued years ago and you can't get it anywhere, but it was the most gorgeous smell
  2. Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel
  3. Eau Dynamisante by Clarins - the original one
  4. Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden - my favourite daytime scent, it's so fresh
  5. Angel Innocent by Thierry Muglar. A lighter version of Angel (which didn't suit me at all)
  6. Paul Smith Woman. It's a lovely warm fragrance, perfect for hot summer nights (the kind we don't really get here, I'm talking Mediterranean holidays)

Don't think I can get to 10!

GuyFawkesDay · 04/05/2020 21:21

Hmmm.

Chanel Chance eau tendre
Acqua Di Parma figuer
Penhaligon Artemisia
Penhaligon Bluebell
Dior "remember me"....limited edition and I loved it!
Armani White
Glossier
L'occitane Cherry Blossom
D&G Light Blue

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/05/2020 21:23

Twinkle- you're not alone in not liking 4160 Tuesdays. I have tried soooo hard to like them, and dutifully tried loads, but Sheesh, to me they all smell like a little girl tipped all her mum's scents into one bottle. Except for Ealing Green which I love.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/05/2020 21:25

I used to have a Van Cleef & Arpels one. I can't remember what it was called, it was a limited addition, but it was bloody gorgeous.

I'm after a delicious rose one for the summer.

MissBattleaxe · 04/05/2020 21:26

@JMAngel1 I wrote a review of Marly Delina. It's gorgeous and the bottle is to die for, but it's very spendy. Here's my review

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal Lancome Idole is a beautiful rose. I also recommend 4160 Tuesdays Red Queen (rose, patchouli, incense) YSL Paris, Givenchy Irresistible or Paul Smith Rose.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/05/2020 21:42

Thank you MissBattleaxe!

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/05/2020 21:55

Paris is still my favourite rose.
Portrait of a lady is a powdery rose
Heeley Hippie Rose
Knowing by Estée Lauder is a chypre rose.

Inspiralcarpetry · 04/05/2020 22:01

Agnes B
Penhaligons Violetta
Jo Malone Rosewater and Vanilla
Thierry Mugler Angel
Shay and Blue Black Tulip

So sad my top three were discontinued. Omg I just loved them. That Jo Malone scent smelled just like soft Turkish delight on me. Current JM scents disappoint me as they are too sharp/citrus for my taste and give zero sillage.
Black Tulip is beautiful and I get compliments wearing it. Inexpensive too!

JMAngel1 · 04/05/2020 22:20

@MissBattleaxe thanks so much for the review link. Very interested as my number 10 Nina Ricci Bella I love for it's rhubarb note and my absolute must have in a fragrance is musk - it sounds very much that I would like it but gosh yes it is spendy!

Butterbeaninjeans · 04/05/2020 22:22

Thecanterbury thank you, any ideas of stockists?

JMAngel1 · 04/05/2020 22:24

@Inspiralcarpetry Agnes B - oh my goodness, I can smell this now. I adored it. I think I remember thst I used to buy it from a paper mail order catalogue in the 90s but I can't remember the name. It sold makeup and skincare too. A bit like Yves Rocher but not.

OP posts:
Inspiralcarpetry · 04/05/2020 22:31

Omg me too! Yes, a paper catalogue! Mum and I used to have a shopping day out in London once a year when I was young and bless her, we always took a trip to the Agnes B shop! I thought I was so sophisticated buying the perfume! Le B and Le Petit B! I wonder if we'd like it now? My taste is quite gourmand now x

JMAngel1 · 04/05/2020 22:31

@Skybluepink123
I remember Exclamation - it was very very sweet. You've made me remember my best friend's mum as she wore it all the time and I used to buy it for her at Christmas with my Saturday job money (she was always very good to me).
You see this is why I love fragrance. Just reading a name can transport me back to long lost memories - it's a visceral response.

OP posts:
carrythecan · 04/05/2020 22:31

Wrinklybags · 04/05/2020 22:44

I really must learn more about perfumes, I'm feeling very out of touch now 😂 ! I love clean and quite light smells.

1 J'adore Christian Dior
2 Daisy Marc Jacobs

Due an update, any recommendations? Nothing too floral or sweet.

AgentCooper · 04/05/2020 22:53

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I bought L’Air de rien for my DH and I love it on him. It’s such a gorgeous scent. And definitely unisex.

I had been wearing Volutes by Diptyque for ages before reading that Harry Styles wore it too. I love a good, interesting perfume that works on men and women.

MissBattleaxe · 04/05/2020 23:00

@Wrinklybags try JLo Glow, Cacharel Noa , Philosophy Amazing Grace or Juliette Has a Gun Not A Perfume. They are all clean, fresh and a bit like clean laundry.

Butterbeaninjeans · 04/05/2020 23:20

I got jlo glow after reading about it on here and it's gorgeous.

AsCoolAsLangCleg · 04/05/2020 23:57

White Musk - scent of my teens. My daughter wears it now and I still love walking into a little cloud of it.
Chanel Coco, the original formulation not the plasticky modern ones. My first love gave me the parfum and I've still got the dinky bottle.
Bvlgari Pour Femme, the 1990s one. Love powdery scents.
Elixir Des Merveilles, spicy bitter orange. Bought on a post-natal whim because I liked the bottle.
Do Son EDP. The best, creamiest tuberose. I blame the Body Shop for my love of white florals.
Musc Ravageur. And musk. My absolute favourite.
L'Air Du Desert Marocain. On a hot sunny day.
Bottega Veneta. Leathery, smoky, Autumnal.
Narciso EDP and Narciso Poudree - my everyday staples, summer and winter, Floral, musky, powdery,
