10 Fragrances for Life

JMAngel1 · 04/05/2020 12:03

There's a popular Youtube video called the above and I thought it would be fun for us to list our all time favourite perfumes.
I was thinking about this as I was going through a memory and found an old diary from 10 years ago of my favourite perfumes and it hasn't changed much at all!
I also would love to read everyone's lists as with lockdown, I'm really missing smelling new fragrances in department stores - spring is usually a big launch time and I can easily lose an hour immersed in the fragrance halls! Instead I'll go down a Fragantica rabbit hole!!

So my !ist is as follows

  1. NR for her EDT - my absolute favourite. all year round
  2. D&G Light Blue Intense. S/S
  3. Tom Ford Neroli Portafino. S/S
  4. Chanel Chance. S/S
  5. Stella McCartney Stella. Summer
  6. Agent Provacateur Maitresse Spring
  7. Floral Street Ylang Ylang Espresso A/W
  8. Replica By the Fireplace A/W
  9. Gucci Rush A/W
10. Nina Ricci Bella S/S

A fragrance I'm dying to smell as it featured in so many of the YT videos is Marly Delina - does anyone have this and if so, do you think I would like it based on my list?

Also perfume parlour do a dupe for the discontinued Jo Malone Verbenas of Provence, a lovely lemony fragrance.

PenfoldsFive · 20/05/2020 17:28

I haven't bought perfume for years, so am definitely not In The Know. Can someone tell me, does roll on perfume oil last well? I would rather use that than spray, I think.

IndieTara · 20/05/2020 17:34

Ooh @avoiding I'd be interested in that. Any idea what it's called?

Greenpop21 · 20/05/2020 18:44

Yes it does, I think it lasts longer @penfolds5

Greenpop21 · 20/05/2020 18:46

Monotheme do some lovely citrus scents. M&S stock some but online too. I have Bergamotta. Around £25.

Jobseeker19 · 20/05/2020 18:47

TheCanterburyWhales · 20/05/2020 20:16

@LadyEloise
I'm not sure that PP do Eau d'Hadrien, no.
I got mine from eBay.de and my Goutal Eau du Sud. (Also a citrus, but a sharper lime note as well )

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 20/05/2020 20:27

@IndieTara

I think if you just search ‘verbena’ it should come up. It has one those silly PP names like verbenezee of provenzee 😆

rainbowsandrage · 22/05/2020 20:17

JMAngel1 · 23/05/2020 13:36

@rainbowsandrage
Oh my goodnes Eau des Marveilles - I'm having a flashback. It's such a stunning fresg orange complex scent - the drydown is gorgeous. I'm adding it to my Lockdown ending smelling spree! Thanks for the reminder.

You are so welcome! Smile

JMAngel1 · 23/05/2020 18:06

This thread is making me realise that even though I have absolute HGs that I could wear year after year, it's still important to define time by trying new scents - otherwise all the years could just roll into decades if I only wore NR in A/W and Neroli Portofino in S/S.

I battle with this vs having signature scents so that my DDs will always be reminded of me when I'm gone. sorry, that got a bit maudlin Grin

@TheCanterburyWhales thanks for the Prada Infusion d'Iris recommendation. I read a few reviews and decided I would risk buying blind (something I would never normally do, but realistically I am not going to be in Selfridges or JL anytime soon). Arrived earlier today and I really like it.

ladykuga · 23/05/2020 19:11

My all time favourite is Calyx by Prescriptives. Was then made by Clinique, now sadly no longer made. Am truly heartbroken.

EBearhug · 24/05/2020 00:17

Laura Ashley - No 1 (original version)
Givenchy- Eau de Givenchy
Gucci - Bloom
Sisley - Eau de Sisley 1
Elizabeth Arden - Blue Grass
Issey Miyake - l'Eau d'Issey
Yves Rocher - Verveine
Yardley - Lily of the Valley
YSL - Paris
Creed - Fantasía de Fleurs

I'd also like to give honorable mentions to
Cabotine de Grès and Nina Ricci - L'Air du Temps, as I wore both of those a lot in my younger days. (I thought it was going to be difficult to find as many as ten...)

There's an orange blossom one I really like, but I don't remember its name.

I mostly like citrusy florals.

EBearhug · 24/05/2020 00:20

Gucci Flora Glorious Tuberose is good, too. And I'm surprised I haven’t any more rose-based ones.

Greenpop21 · 24/05/2020 08:00

OP I know what you mean, I flit between a signature scent and wearing different ones. My faves are Chanel Cristalle and 19, Stella L.I.L.Y now discontinued and Gucci Envy also discontinued but a dupe on Perfume Parlour is very good.

ThePawtriarchy · 24/05/2020 08:25

@ladykuga you san buy Calyx in the States still so not completely discontinued.

Greenpop21 · 24/05/2020 09:09

Just discovered Jenny Glow that do Jo Malone inspired scents at a fraction of the price. Ordered pear and freesia edp for £7 so fingers crossed.

teta · 24/05/2020 09:18

Calyx is still sold on Amazon . It's one of my favourites too and I've worn it for years. There's nothing else like it .

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 24/05/2020 09:34

@Greenpop21 The Jennyow Jo Malone dupes are excellent.

I don’t like many JM fragrances, but I do really like Wood Sage and Seasalt and the dupe of that is fantastic. Absolutely spot on.

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 24/05/2020 09:36

Jenny Glow!

Greenpop21 · 24/05/2020 09:53

Thanks. I’ve bitten the bullet and ordered it. The perfume threads on here have been enlightening. It used to be what Boots had in store. I always find perfume counters a bit intimidating.
