Basic tees and bras

Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 08:48

Any recommendations for well fitting basic tees that wash well? I like shops like fast face etc but their plain tees are really thick so not great for summer and don't last. And also basic bras? Mine just do not fit. Boob or bust suggests 28G which surely cannot even exist!!! I'm thinking of trying a 30Dd instead because at least I can get that in the shops. Not sure where to start though as it's quite a strange size.

28G will exist, you’ll need to hunt them down but they’re out there. The next cup/band size up would be a 30 F/FF. 30dd is tiny.

Pleasedontdothat · 24/04/2020 09:31

Dd is 28FF and the only place we’ve found that does that size at a price that isn’t eye-watering is Bravissimo

Gap always used to do good basic t-shirts but their quality has really gone downhill in the last few years. M&S have loads which might be ok

givemecrisps · 24/04/2020 09:34

I'm a 32HH and know the pain of struggling for a bra that fits. Figleaves are good but expensive. Debenhams used to do good ones but the quality went downhill and I guess they aren't selling anyway now

MarshmallowsOnToast · 24/04/2020 09:43

A 30DD is about 4 cup sizes too small if you're measuring as 28G and will not do you any favours at all, so wouldn't even go there.

Try Bravissimo, just had a look & they have 75 styles available in a 28G.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 09:53

I guess it depends on whether I believe this boob or bust!!! I'm currently wearing a 32D but the straps are all too long. Including the over shoulder straps. But changing to a 28G seems crackers! I know this has been done before on here, because this is where I read about it! I don't think I'm going to find a 28G and not sure i believe it. So was thinking 30Dd shorter straps than current bras.

I'm quite happy with my D cup but just need shorter straps without that changing somehow. Am I being thick 🤦🏻‍♀️

Basic tees - Dorothy Perkins do the BEST t shirts. Great quality, fitted but not loads of stretch/cling, wash well, variety of colours.
Don't buy any others any more

Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 10:28

Oo fab I had totally forgotten about dotty P they used to be my favourites

Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 10:30

I'm so confused about bras. I'm wearing 32D. The straps are too long. So I go 30. I'm happy with the cup so to get the same do I go 30C or 30DD?! Lockdown has fried my brain...

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 24/04/2020 10:38

The straps aren’t too long, their too wide apart and my guess is they fall down during the day?.

A narrower band is the answer. When your in the right size they don’t fall down off your shoulders.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 10:39

No they are too long as I'm I've shortened them as much as I can, but they are loose.

OP posts:
Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 10:40

And also fall down. Just generally too big. What I'm not following is if I get a smaller size band what do I do with the bust measurement to keep it the same. Sorry.

notdoingitanymore · 24/04/2020 10:42

Try brastop.com for 28G at sensible prices

BusterGonad · 24/04/2020 10:59

The bra straps fall down because you are wearing completely the wrong size bra, please listen to the advice on here.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 11:24

I agree I am wearing the wrong size! My bras are too big!

But I don't want to go down the boob or bust route. I don't think changing from a 32D to a 28G sounds credible.

I can't afford expensive underwear right now, I just want some plain tees and bras.

My measurements are 29 inch band and 34 inch round the boobs... I can't seem to find just a blummin calculator. 30C? Dd?

OP posts:
Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 11:29

I did come on here because I realise I don't know what the blummin Heck I'm doing 😂

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 24/04/2020 11:30

Their too wide, that’s why shortening them isn’t working.

If you go down a band size you go up a cup size. So for the same size cup size a 28DD,30D, 32C,34B,36A would all be the same volume of breast tissue But would be badly fitting on the frame and ultimately wouldn’t fit the frame but you’d still fill the cup.

The smaller back fittings have the straps closer together so as you go up a frame size they get wider because they expect you to be broader across the shoulders.

Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 11:33

@fluffycloud thank you. So if I'm in 32D, the band is too big but the cups are OK, I should go 30DD?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 24/04/2020 11:34

Try a 28DD. It will feel tight for a couple of hours but like when you very first wore a bra as a teenager.

You could try a 30DD but my guess is the straps will fall down.

Boob or bust does work but it’s finding the right style too, some underwires won’t suit you. Some dig in under my underarms but that doesn’t mean I don’t suit wired bras it’s just not the right style.

What you need is a trip to bravissimo because they’ll try you in loads of different styles.

anothernotherone · 24/04/2020 11:38

Indecisivelurcher if you go down a band size you go up a cup size. If you go up a band size you go down a cup size.

Someone who is genuinely a 36DD has much bigger breasts than someone who is genuinely a 28 DD (a much bigger body over all, obviously).

So 32DD is the same cup size as 30D is 28C

A 28G is the same cup size as a 30FF or a 32F or a 34E or a 36DD is a 38 D

Roughly because of course those are all different body shapes.

A 32D should be a 30F or 28FF

I'm not sure all brands do FF

PhoneLock · 24/04/2020 11:43

Boob or bust suggests 28G which surely cannot even exist!!!

All of my bras apart from one are 28FF. The other is a 28G, so they do exist! It's Freya.

Bert2e · 24/04/2020 11:54

BraStop!

Indecisivelurcher · 24/04/2020 11:55

Thank you everybody. One step closer to sorting myself out?!

BusterGonad · 24/04/2020 15:42

Regarding bras, obviously after lock down, I tend to get measured in a decent shop, buy one bra then get home and order the same bra (keep the labrl/ticket) on ebay or some other place where they can be found for up to 50% cheaper or more.

BusterGonad · 24/04/2020 15:44

Also usually bra band width is smiler to clothes size. A size 8 will be 28, size 10 a 30 etc...I'm a 14/16 I wear a 34 band.
