What do you do with your hair when you sleep?

I just don’t know what to do with my hair at night! It is long and thick and I get way too hot if I leave it down. But I find it uncomfortable to wear in a top knot for example. Currently-

If I’m going to chuck it in a bun the next day, I put it in two plaits to sleep.

If I’ve straightened it I’ll put it in a really high pony but often have to redo it in the morning.

I’ve read about silk hair wraps but I’m worried I would get too hot wearing one?

I wash my hair on an evening and fall asleep on it still damp.

Spaceprincess · 21/04/2020 20:52

Mines long and thick, I put mine in two loose plaits at night. I wear it wavy most days.

FireandFury · 21/04/2020 21:00

I’ve got thick hair and plait mine else my DP will lean and pull on it in bed. Plaiting even with dry hair will give you a wave though. I’d be interested to hear about those wraps.

LightenUpSummer · 21/04/2020 21:01

A plait, gives a nice bit of wave on alternate days when I don’t wash it.

Am bored and have just calculated that’s well over 13,000 plaits, not including leap years Grin

lotusbell · 21/04/2020 21:03

Judging by mine in the morning, I roll around and rub it all over my pillow when I sleep. Is that not what you meant? Grin

Greenteandchives · 21/04/2020 21:04

I change the side of my parting and pull it into a loose pony tail, with another elastic at the bottom of it to keep it all together. I can’t bear hair in my face at night.

SamVimesFavouriteDragon · 21/04/2020 21:12

French plait or two

Sickoffamilydrama · 21/04/2020 21:24

I have curly hair so put it up in a lose pineapple, I used to leave it lose but this has been a revelation. I wake up without knots and with volume.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 21/04/2020 21:41

Platt normally although tempted to try the dressing gown method for nice curls 😬

Bigjobbiewheecker · 21/04/2020 21:44

Silk wraps??! Do these keep your hair from getting tuggy x

CMOTDibbler · 21/04/2020 21:46

Depends on its current length. At the moment its really long, so it goes in a very loose pineapple/ topknot right on top of my head. Shorter and I plait it

GailForceWarning · 21/04/2020 21:48

Twist at the nape of my neck and use a big hair claw clip to hold it in place near the top.

I’ve got longish very thick wavy hair that I dry smooth and if I leave it down at night it gets sweaty and tangled at the back. Hair bands were leaving bumps and breaking it. I only like to wash it every second or third day and this saves extra washing and drying.

HalloumiLooney · 21/04/2020 21:49

For all those asking, silk hair wraps are amazing, not hot and hair is so silky in the morning. For those that don’t mind sleeping with their hair loose, a silk pillow case is amazing. Wouldn’t be without mine and take my wrap when I’m staying away from home!

applepineapple · 21/04/2020 21:50

Spiny bun at the naps of my neck. I also use a silk pillowcase and silk hair ties to stop it getting frizzy

Sheepareawesome · 21/04/2020 21:51

I have long hair but I can't stand it up at night so it is just loose on the pillow. I do tuck a bit over my ear to keep it warm though.

Notredamn · 21/04/2020 22:03

I don't do anything to mine, I don't think I could tolerate it being up, and if it was long enough to interfere with my sleep I'd have to cut it off!

Nogodsnomasters · 21/04/2020 22:05

I'm sorry but two pp's have said "pineapple", I'm clearly missing something in life as I've never heard of this? Lol please fill me in. And answer to original question it's either 2 plaits or a highish ponytail, my hair isn't long nor thick though, I imagine if it were it'd be less comfortable in a pony.

CanIDigIt · 21/04/2020 22:07

Mine is long now and even longer for Corona. A bonkers top knot but it's wavy so it just adds to the waves next day.
I tie a high pony, the third twist I don't pull it all through. I then push the third band bit away and The hair in the middle loop of this I pull tighter (grab two bits and pull like if you were tightening a normal pony). This softens the grip of the band so it's comfy to sleep in. This gives less band mark too. So hard to explain!

In the photo - the small bit between bands is the bit I split and tighten

RiftGibbon · 21/04/2020 22:09

Put in a low, loose ponytail to keep it out of the way.

ATowelAndAPotato · 21/04/2020 22:09

Can anyone recommend a link to a silk hair wrap please?
I can work the google, but it’s always good to get a recommendation!

happymummy12345 · 21/04/2020 22:10

Nothing. I couldn't sleep with anything in my hair. It's just down. It's long and naturally curly and if it's really hot then it can be annoying, but i just put up with it.

LoveIslandVirgin · 21/04/2020 22:11

A silk or satin pillowcase is ideal.

MrsW85 · 21/04/2020 22:15

I've got medium length thick, wavy/curly hair. I've recently taught myself how to French braid my own hair and its so much more comfortable to sleep with than buns or ponytails. I can't leave it loose as my husband lies on it.

Tanfastic · 21/04/2020 22:18

I put mine in a loose band on top of my head. Can't bear it down to sleep in.
