What do you do with your hair when you sleep?

I just don’t know what to do with my hair at night! It is long and thick and I get way too hot if I leave it down. But I find it uncomfortable to wear in a top knot for example. Currently-

If I’m going to chuck it in a bun the next day, I put it in two plaits to sleep.

If I’ve straightened it I’ll put it in a really high pony but often have to redo it in the morning.

I’ve read about silk hair wraps but I’m worried I would get too hot wearing one?

Waist length thick straight hair here - mostly I plait it, sometimes fall asleep with it in a sort of looped pony at nape of neck, and very occasionally I forget and go to bed with it loose and wake up with a mad multicolour tangle of hair which sticks up at all angles and makes me look pleasingly crazy 😁 on the whole, I'd say plaiting is my favourite...

RomaineCalm · 21/04/2020 22:21

I usually have what DH calls my 'old lady plait' at night. Smile

I don't like the knobbly feel of a ponytail to sleep in but might now try a pineapple for a change.

HeyAllYouCoolCatsAndKittenz · 21/04/2020 22:24

Whats a loose pineapple?

CalmConfident · 21/04/2020 22:56

I have just bought one of these silk hair wraps, only a few days in but hair definitely less fuzzy. Invested in lieu of my cancelled cut & colour !

It's like a high ponytail but really to the front of your head and lose so you don't break your hair then you end up not make loads of knots by moving around.

I can't sleep in a ponytail, and mine too thick to plait. I have a silk pillowcase but sort of twist it out of the way so it's not down my back or neck.

DinosApple · 21/04/2020 23:27

Mine is thin, below shoulders and straight so I just have it loose. Pony kinks it and it's not worth plaiting it - it's not yet at the stage where it tangles when I touch it (give it another 2 months).

Are silk pillow cases slippery, is that how it works?

ElGuardiandenoche · 21/04/2020 23:41

I have long, straight hair down to my bum ( I probably will be able to sit on it in a month or two) so I just get a scrunchy and use it to make a top knot on my head.

Think I might look into silk wraps.

HappyBirthdayQueenieMarm · 21/04/2020 23:53

Satin pillow case

indemMUND · 21/04/2020 23:55

Mine's very long and fairly thick. Two plaits at night and I throw them up above my head on the pillow so they don't get in the way.

Northernsoullover · 21/04/2020 23:57

I think someone rubs grease on mine overnight Sad

PhoneLock · 22/04/2020 00:09

I have thick, longish , curly hair. I do nothing with it.

ATowelAndAPotato · 22/04/2020 12:40

Thank you for the link. Must save up! Smile

MabelMoo23 · 22/04/2020 13:16

Tie it in a top knot on my head. Drives me bloody crazy when it’s down

GameofPhones · 22/04/2020 13:23

Have not tried plaiting, but the only thing that will stay on my head is a hijab. It stays in place, but is too hot this season. Has anyone found headwear that stays on through the night?

HeyDuggeewhatchadoin · 22/04/2020 13:34

I do not recommend the SILKE hair wrap as the elastic has started to go saggy after only 3 months.
I've been wearing these for years and they are amazing. I hope they come back in stock soon, I wish I'd never spent 50 quid on the Silke.
