Anyone else aged ten years in lockdown?!

CatsForLife · 21/04/2020 10:39

The skin on my face is the driest it’s ever been. It’s literally flaking and I’ve now got three million fine lines. No moisturiser I’ve got in the house tried seems to help, even the heavy ones like Weleda Skin Food. I look ten years older. I dread looking in the mirror. My skin was flaking in my face this morning when I got up and is so tight. Is anyone else the same?! Why has lockdown caused this? Any recommendations for really dry skin moisturisers?

Yes, I work in social care and whilst everyone I know is at home doing nothing I'm working sily hours, totally stressed out and all this handwashing is making my hands look much older than the rest of me. eating like a pig and drinking too much wine isn't helping either. I have a feeling most of my friends will come out of this fit, rested and rejuvenated and I'll just be a prematurely geriatric alchie fatty.

CatsForLife · 21/04/2020 12:24

My hands have aged 20 years! Yes I’m still working too so maybe it is stress. All suggestions welcome on trying to make my face feel less like a mask...

Are you washing your face more often? Handwash makes my hands sore. Using different products.

Are you eating differently? I'd try eating good oils.

Are you drinking more alcohol and less water?

CatsForLife · 21/04/2020 14:50

I don’t really drink, so it’s not that. Washing face the same amount, with the same stuff. I probably need to drink more water, but I’m not bad on that front. It’s like my moisturiser just disappears and my face still feels tight after putting it on.

Have you tried a home face mask? It may give your skin a little boost.

Lippy1234 · 21/04/2020 14:55

Also are you getting any fresh air?

GigiLamour · 21/04/2020 14:58

Watching with interest because I'm having exactly the same problem!

The skin under my eyes is particularly dry. I've gained an extra large wrinkle underneath each eye. Lovely.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 21/04/2020 15:04

Exactly the same problem here too 😩😩. Using the same products. If anything, have a much healthier lifestyle now as not commuting for 3 hours a day. Spending at least 1.5 hrs outside, doing sports, spf, drinking water and sleeping enough for change! However, my face always feels dry. I need to keep applying a moisturize all the time. What the hell is going on?

oohnicevase · 21/04/2020 15:11

I think I look better , I've been drinking loads of water/ hot drinks and don't drink alcohol. I don't eat meat and have just been eating veg dinners due to lack of other options .. my hands on the other hand are ropey !!

sergeantmajor · 21/04/2020 15:13

Surely lockdown has been 10 years? Or does it just feel that way? Yes, I am looking much more haggard and grey of face & hair. Or perhaps I just have more opportunity to view my reflection in daylight?

CatsForLife · 21/04/2020 16:14

I’m glad it’s not just me. I’m spending about 1.5 hours outside every day. Could it be the wind?! I honestly don’t know what else is different.

Cyberworrier · 21/04/2020 16:22

Yes, I’m early 30s but been disguising grey with semi permanent gloss at a salon for a few years so have been having to get used to how much grey I now have 😩
Already was the only one of my friends not to get IDed at shops anymore, I am sure they’ll all emerge rested and youthful, while I’ve gone grey and generally haggard!
Are you spending more time than usual outside OP? Make sure you wear sunscreen!

Youngatheart00 · 21/04/2020 16:25

I’ve got really dry skin under my eyes. I think I’m potentially taking less care with cleansing / skincare routine as I’m not wearing makeup. I also think maybe I need to change my bedsheets weekly rather than every 2 weeks because I’m spending more time in / on bed watching Netflix or reading and I guess that’s more bacteria on the pillow.

I’ve definitely gained weight too 😫

judemom · 21/04/2020 16:33

Definitely. I'm usually good about skincare regime, light makeup, and eating healthy.

Since the lockdown, I've been doing skincare routine with skipping steps, not really caring honestly.

And eith weight gain on top of this, I am mortified about what this is doing to me

judemom · 21/04/2020 16:36

@Catsforlife

I'm also noticed my skin is extra dry. No matter how much face oil or moisturizer I put on, it's just drier than normal.

My scalp is also oddly just dry.

My intake of water is the same . It's probably my stress level , or eating a cookie every night .

CatsForLife · 21/04/2020 16:42

Yes! My scalp is dry too! I’ll basically end lockdown as a raisin.

Lippy1234 · 21/04/2020 16:44

Could it be your central heating?

CatsForLife · 21/04/2020 16:48

It’s possible, but it’s only in for an hour or so in the morning then it’s been warm enough without it. It’s driving me bonkers. Just got out of the shower, covered my face in moisturiser and it’s still right.

OP posts:
CatsForLife · 21/04/2020 16:48

Tight!

OP posts:
judemom · 21/04/2020 17:35

I think stress and having to isolate from people is wreaking havoc on my skin, and hair.

We are social beings, this is not normal.

My face and hair is telling me this is not normal !

missyB1 · 21/04/2020 17:40

OMG I was going to start this thread - with exactly the same title! Great minds eh?Grin

So yes I have aged at least 10 years I reckon. My skin looks awful, dry, much more lined, and more enlarged pores. My hair is frizzy and bushy. I just look rough. I’m not sleeping particularly well so that’s probably part of it. I would give anything to go to a hairdresser and then have a facial!

byebyebeautiful · 21/04/2020 17:41

Drinking may help in this situation OP, I've had tons of gin and now I don't give a shit about the 10 greys I've pulled out today or the worry lines that have appeared in the last week.

notacooldad · 21/04/2020 17:48

No.
I need the usual beauty treatments a lot if people want eg eyebrows doing professionally, eyelash tint, roots need doing, pedicure and the like but in the whole I'm ok.
I'm still working and every day is a challenge. However I'm excecising at home, I've cut down on my snacks, I'm not drinking alcohol. well maybe 1 drink on my night off once a week!
As I've got nothing to rush back home for after work ( cinema meet up with friends ) I'm walking to and from work ( 4 miles each way) which I'm enjoying. Normally I'm tine short!!
I have more time to spend on home beauty treatments and looking at youtube tutorials for make up ideas.

hmmm123 · 21/04/2020 18:06

Yes dry flaky skin

Terrible dry hair

Roots awful and highlighted hair has gone yellow in the sun so look hideous
Also have put on half a stone somehow? Can't understand it but might be the nightly wine and daily biscuits!

Cocolapew · 21/04/2020 18:18

My skin was so dry I ended up wearing foundation for a few days and it helped for some reason. My eyelids are a different matter, they have drooped so much it's unreal 😔.
My scalp is a bit drier too, I went grey this year so don't have a roots problem. I'm using dry shampoo a bit more than usual and wondered if that's why my scalp was a bit crap.
