Anyone else aged ten years in lockdown?!

The skin on my face is the driest it’s ever been. It’s literally flaking and I’ve now got three million fine lines. No moisturiser I’ve got in the house tried seems to help, even the heavy ones like Weleda Skin Food. I look ten years older. I dread looking in the mirror. My skin was flaking in my face this morning when I got up and is so tight. Is anyone else the same?! Why has lockdown caused this? Any recommendations for really dry skin moisturisers?

try oil- olive, almond, vegetable, whatever you have in.
massage it all over , then rinse gently with a flannel and water.
my face feels lovely after this.
yep-my hands have aged massively, need to oil them too perhaps...

Caroline Hirons did an instigram live on lock down skin yesterday. She was focusing on dry/dehydrated skin and also acne/breakout skin. She mentioned loads of different products. It's still up on her page.

It’s bizarre though...what exactly is causing it?! Do we think that make up is actually good for our skin??

LellyMcKelly · 22/04/2020 00:58

Stress plays havoc with skin. I’ve found that when my skin is very dry it responds well to a teaspoon sized trop of extra virgin olive oil warmed on my palm before rubbing on my face. It just feels calming and nourishing.

CatsForLife · 22/04/2020 07:11

I’ll try the olive oil. I uncovered some Clarins facial oil last night and stuck that on, ontop of night cream but it just soaks straight in.

Not so much aged in skin appearance but makeup is a distant memory and thank goodness for jersey dresses! Sitting around the house all day (working) is not actually that comfortable so comfy clothes are a must

I look about 12 as I've been using some of the stuff I bought from The Ordinary months ago and couldn't get into using because it's all so complicated.

I'm using this ridiculous oil that looks like I've coloured face in with an orange highlighter before and then I'm watching a tv programme with it on so it doesn't ruin my pillowcases.

Words cannot describe how much I am not exaggerating about the orange face. I look like the more dedicated brother of the Tango Man.

But it's incredibly moisturising.

Dermalogica do a balm for very dry skin exposed to the elements.

La Roche pissy do a similar item but there’s is tested on animals and this ones cruelty free.

Posay!

My auto correct has learnt to swear 😂.

Although you probably have pissed your facial skin right off.

judemom · 22/04/2020 19:08

I started using a face oil first before a moisturiser as opposed to last , and it has helped a bit. Still look ten Years older !!!

judemom · 22/04/2020 19:13

I also now use facial oil during the daytime as well. Not going outside so why not?

I think stress is causing us to look old and keeps us dry. Not being outside and running around for regular things is also causing my skin and scalp to feel dry

CatsForLife · 22/04/2020 19:27

I’ll have a look at those links, thank you. I can only think it’s stress as I have been quite anxious...

Have you changed your beauty routine?

My skin is spotty because I am using more sun cream as am outside more

Different problem than yours, but it is because of lifestyle/beauty changes

judemom · 23/04/2020 02:48

My skin is getting worse from facial oil, now even drier with spots.

I really do believe the aging and sagging skin is due to stress from the lockdown, being around my DH more, caring for my DD all day and night.

I look 15 years older now. Any ideas on how to stop the stress from coronavirus?

judemom · 23/04/2020 02:50

I also use v expensive products mostly from Darphin and clarins.

Nothing changed except I never wear makeup anymore, only suncream. But still serum and moisturiser every morning and night, wash as usual.

judemom · 23/04/2020 02:51

I also realised tonight I gained quite a bit of weight since the lockdown.

So now I'm looking older, drier, and fatter.

happinessischocolate · 23/04/2020 03:25

Turn your central heating off and leave your bedroom window open overnight. I had the driest eyes a month ago, all the skin on my eyelids was wrinkled and flaking with dryness. Turned the heating off and opened the window and 1 month later my skin is the best it's been for a long time.

Mascotte · 23/04/2020 03:45

Another recommendation for Dermalogica products. They do some serum oil things which are great.

I also got a sample of a trilogy cleansing balm which is really nice and moisturising. Worth a try.

My skin was looking better, though I look shattered, but I managed to get windburn yesterday so now look like an ancient mariner.
