Oasis and Warehouse :-(

I know this probably seems frivolous but I think it's really sad that so many fashion retailers are struggling. It seems unless you're cheap eg Primark or expensive then it's too hard to survive. It's mean less choice for me as a mid range shopper & I really liked some of Warehouses's stuff.

I agree mocho. I don't want to be forced into online shopping after lockdown has eased.

My new years resolution was to use independent shops as much as possible but I'm wondering if there will be any of them left. Right now the only clothing retailers I would put money on surviving are Amazon and supermarkets.

I used to love Warehouse but in recent years it has gone downhill imo. But I agree I am sorry about jobs going, particularly for women.

Really sad to hear this from both a jobs and clothing perspective. Warehouse and Oasis were always a good bet for so many occasions.

Virtually all my smarter clothes are from Oasis. Where on earth will I buy new clothes for work etc now??
So sorry for all those losing their jobs too.

That is a shame as they are shops I like. However, I found the quality of some Oasis stuff went downhill and the price went up in the last couple of years.

@faithhowells what's a good alternative? What I liked about Warehouse was it was a bit more grownup then Topshop eg longer hemlines, thicker straps but still on trend. I'm not a Boden or similar shopper.

That's true but I meant more from a personal perspective as I liked those particular brands. Plus some retailers are thriving & taking on extra staff.

Yes me too mocho. For dresses/occasion wear I found some brands on ASOS comparable but it’s more hit and miss. For everyday or office wear I haven’t found an alternative.

Oasis has gone downhill, but I really like some items from Warehouse in the last year or so.

I used to work in fashion buying and a lot of brands have struggled with increased manufacturing & logistical costs. Brands want to see yr on yr growth & ever growing profits so unfortunately quality goes down & prices go up.

I honestly don't know where I'll shop. Oasis is one of the few shops where I can find clothes that complement my apple shaped tummy. Also it's terrible for the staff and the high street generally

I would really miss Oasis for office wear. Really like their prints and the trousers always suit my shape. I think it will leave a real gap in the market - for me it would only be Next or M&S as an alternative and they are both a bit dull in comparison.

My dd2, who is 23, gets clothes for doing work presentations from Oasis. I'm ancient, but I have the odd thing too. I hate to see high street shops closing, I like a wander around and to try things on.
And job losses just now are sad too. I hate threads discussing which shops will close next, even if it's places I don't shop in.

Oasis will be missed by me for dresses and jumpers - they're at the cheaper end of what I buy tbh but they are a good option for more seasonal stuff

Oasis is my favourite shop. I'm very into prints, dresses and quite girly stuff. Such a shame. I also know exactly what size I'll need in there too. I must admit they have been using far too much polyester of late but I still love what they do.

This is sad. I used to buy a lot of Warehouse and Oasis stuff. But not for years - I have moved onto buying fewer, better quality items these days.

I feel very sad for our High Streets. Things are changing and our towns and cities are going to look very different before too long.

For younger people,with graduate program income and city rent prices, oasis was good quality and expensive!

I go between joules, M&S, oasis and mint velvet maybe fat face but will really miss oasis in the shopping centre locally, agree re the polyester so try to get some of their cotton stuff just really fed up about this. Warehouse used to be next door but left a few years ago so don’t really bother anymore but I will miss oasis as my town hasn’t much decent for shopping and I could normally get something from oasis our towns will look very different I think, sad 😔

A few shops have gone into administration and managed to survive so it may not be the end. It did seem as if the prices went up as the quality went down - more people want cheap than want quality but before these two places seemed to have a balance. Now the market is increasingly polarised, you either spend £5 (either because you don’t have the money, or you want something to wear once or twice or you shop in charity shops) on a top or £90 (because you want something to last, not that spending £90 guarantees that unfortunately)

These two shops are good for basics and ‘naice’ tops, I’d miss them.’

I'll really miss oasis, I've got some beautiful dresses from there and I always know which size I am. It was quite expensive but I always got so much wear out of each dress, some are still in great condition four years later.
