What a shame Sad the choice on the high Street is going to feel very limited....

Very much so tableniner. We'll maybe keep next in the middle

nuttymomma · 14/04/2020 19:29

I never liked either store. Their stuff was cheap quality imo and never fitted well.

I love Boden but too expensive and I think they are going to struggle if they aren't already.

Same with Monsoon (lots of discount codes being sent!)

eggandonion · 14/04/2020 19:58

I suppose if it fits you it fits you! I know my Oasis size and my Marks jeans size. I'm not tall enough for Monsoon.

Vinorosso74 · 14/04/2020 20:17

Just coming back as I don't know where I'll buy clothes from. I don't like Next, Boden, Joules, Fatface etc. I'm not quite ready to be frumpy. H&M have some stuff I like but some not; Zara is the wrong shape; even Dotty P has all but gone.

Jessikka · 14/04/2020 20:19

Sorry to sound dull, but what exactly is administration?
Is it basically declaring bankruptcy and asking for a buyer to them going?

I've tried to Google but I'm in slow labour and my brain just won't take in what Wikipedia is saying ha!

I'm a fan of warehouse and oasis - they do lovely dresses!

Ladyglitterfairydust · 14/04/2020 20:21

Oh no, I like both of these shops. I’m late 30s and feel like these fit my age group well. I often feel places like Topshop are too young and Boden/Joules etc can be a bit old/mumsy at times. Other places are just too expensive.

escape · 14/04/2020 20:23

I'm almost exclusively warehouse dressed these days. the odd bit of Oasis, but their quality isn't what it was for the price. Warehouse seems to have upped their prices dramatically over the past 2 years, I buy only with a discount, and not everything is worth even half the price, but it's 'grown up' fashion as a previous poster said. Their trousers actually fit me - will be gutted to see them go. Got to be French Connection or Ted Baker next surely - prices are ridiculous!

Usually a big accountancy company steps in to manage a failing company. They will do things like negotiate better terms on rent, if that is possible, or try to find a buyer for all of the company or part of it. This may or may not be possible (and difficult just now).
When is your baby due? good luck!

katienana · 14/04/2020 20:26

Gutted about this, I mainly shop in Oasis, Warehouse, Topshop, Next and River Island. I always look in Zara but never find anything in there. Choice is going to be so limited. The mid market high street is going to almost disappear

Anthilda · 14/04/2020 20:29

Oh I'm gutted about oasis.

Youngatheart00 · 14/04/2020 20:30

Hopefully they will be able to find a buyer and keep going in some form, albeit likely with a lesser number of stores. I find Oasis too floral in the main, but it’s ok for holiday bits. Quite often find stuff in warehouse I like and I like their colour schemes. I believe both companies have been underperforming for a while, however.

MaJoady · 14/04/2020 21:21

Apparently they were both for sale pre-CV but the sale has now fallen through (unsurprisingly).

I am sad because I used to buy quite a lot from both, particularly Warehouse. But again, quality seems to have really suffered in recent years and prices increased. Plus neither had their online shopping act sorted. You couldn't do collect+ or similar and as someone who works full time and doesn't have either store nearby it was pretty useless.

I'm hoping, in the long term, a lot of these big brands failing will open the doors for some smaller players to grow market share as the high street has usually been quite hostile to newcomers. I also hope it means those newcomers/survivors will be more wary of private equity companies and of selling their stores.

(On the latter point I heard an interesting R4 interview with the man who owns Richer Sounds, one of the few brands who own all their physical stores, rather than rent. His opinion was that the high street killed itself when all the big names sold their stores for huge amounts to companies and became leaseholders. They got the big bucks in once, and their share holders were very happy, but now we are in harder times they have no wiggle room.)

That's a good 60% of my wardrobe goneSad

BunnytheHoneyBee · 14/04/2020 21:31

I used to love a Warehouse for work clothes like suits and dresses (5+ years ago) but then found the quality wasn’t as good

But recently I got two really nice dresses for work, one from Warehouse and one from Oasis

Tiggytico · 14/04/2020 22:06

Gutted. About half of my wardrobe is Oasis. 🤦‍♀️ so sad for the staff too.

MabelMoo23 · 14/04/2020 22:25

Am sad about both brands. That said, I also agree about Oasis, far far too much polyester

PatchworkElmer · 14/04/2020 22:36

Sad about Oasis- I’ve had some lovely clothes from there (avoiding polyester!)

Asgoodasarest · 02/05/2020 08:50

Late to the party but I’d say 75% of what I buy is warehouse. I’m really gutted about this as I genuinely am a frequent customer. I liked that it was similar to brands like whistles in design, but cheaper. As a previous poster mentioned I feel I’m too old for much in places like Topshop, but not quite ready for other brands. Warehouse for me was a good middle ground. A real shame.
