Will we see any royals out and about anytime soon?

That was a real hatchet job on Catherine Cambridge. With the added fillip that anyone who is sympathetic to her fictional complains about overwork can hate on Megan Sussex and how their uncle moving to north america somehow shafted 3 young children whose only obligation is to go to school. Like George is going to be out cutting ribbons or going up chimneys because Uncle Harry doesn't live next door anymore. It is weird stuff - they really do hate women though

mathanxiety · 27/05/2020 05:43

YYY to that Pallisers

And now that they've succeeded in driving H&M away they are free to concentrate their bile on W&K.

mathanxiety · 27/05/2020 05:49

Good Lord, that article...

Says so much more about the writer than the subjects, doesn't it...

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/05/2020 06:32

And Queen you have totally shown that to be fair. The thing Kate was criticised for so much was lack of work ethic and this article plays totally into that and then people comment saying not exactly nose to the grindstone etc.

My comment wasn't meant to be a criticism of Kate @mrscampbellblackagain, it was more about the way the article is written. And I think it's applicable across the board when it comes to the royals. As @frugalkitty says, are we meant to feel bad for them?

True Queen True!

Seems like the Cambridges are not happy with the article.

If only the men in the RF got half the criticism that the women do.

MotherofPearl · 27/05/2020 08:13

Just catching up on the thread. That Tatler article is awful. I hate the sexist subtext about 'difficult' women - how they've written about Carole for instance. She's obviously a very driven, hard-working woman and perhaps something of a perfectionist - what's wrong with that? Men with those traits are lauded.

I find all the 'sources close to the couple' etc pretty dubious and think most of it is just made-up bile.

mrscampbellblackagain · 27/05/2020 08:17

It has a touch of crappy lockdown made up journalism about it doesn't it?

pearlypidge · 27/05/2020 08:40

Did anyone see the telegraph yesterday reported that the "incident" at a dress fitting for H&M's wedding that left Kate in tears was apparently over whether the bridesmaids should wear tights or not. Kate said yes, because "protocol" and Meghan said no, apparently Confused

Where do they get this tosh from!

Rhubarbisevil · 27/05/2020 08:40

Tatler is a chav journal now for nouveau riche Russians.

Gotta love Kate and the psychic. Of course she was shut down and tight lipped - the psychic was there to provide HER with information Grin I’ve done the same and the charlatan became quite agitated that I wasn’t giving out information for him to repeat back to me. Finally he came up with the fact that I worked with a computer. Er... derrrrr.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/05/2020 08:42

The part about Kate and Meghan falling out over tights is ridiculous and doesn't even make sense. If she's as inscrutable as the article claims then surely arguing about something like that would be below her dignity? And even if there was an argument it's hardly a "feud", given that they seemed to get on fine at Wimbledon soon after!

Rhubarbisevil · 27/05/2020 08:43

Kate’s accent - she sounded a lot like Prince Philip in the early days. Maybe she spent a lot of time with him as he was coaching her about how to be. Sovereign’s Consort. Her zoom calls reveal her true accent, I think, and she sounds exactly like the school mums round here.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/05/2020 08:54

The voice coaching is about the only credible part of the article. I think it's possible that she had it, but to develop her public speaking skills rather than her accent. She was hardly Eliza Doolittle!

Agreed @Queen. Woman wears dress and all that

BlingLoving · 27/05/2020 09:04

The thing about the royals is that even if they do put the work hours in, unlike the rest of us they're doing so without any financial pressures, worrying about their lack of pension like me and have help with the day to day running if the household, nannies, cooks etc etc so it's a bit much that we are expected to feel bad that they're having to work hard.

I largely agree with this. I think they do work relatively hard and I do believe that certainly the modern generation also genuinely want to be close to their children etc. But I don't feel sorry for them (well, I occasionally feel sorry for them because of the scrutiny and the fact that work involves wearing high heels and being nice to people 24/7 but I feel sorry for hotel reception staff for the same reason).

But that article was awful. Complete hatchet job. And frankly, I'm not buying it - so many different sources all subtly implying that Kate and her mother are ruthless ambitious bitches and all during lockdown when they're not out wining and dining everyone?

Why are women treated so badly? No one accuses Michael Middleton of excessive ambition for his daughter?

Kate is often nervous around cameras and it definitely affects her voice. When she loosens up her accent is still all super plummy but it definitely is more real.

LadyEloise · 27/05/2020 09:29

Tbh I thought the flower girls at M &H's wedding needed ankle socks or tights with those lovely dresses.
I wouldn't usually be a fan of tights and think the stricture that Royals must wear tights at official engagements daft.

BlingLoving · 27/05/2020 11:10

Is it strictures though? Or just a very old fashioned/conservative approach to dressing? When I first started working in corporate PR, it was considered completely unacceptable not to wear tights at all time and sandals, even smart ones, were not okay. It also was not acceptable to not wear a jacket etc.

I still struggle to wear open toed shoes when in the city, but I can, just about, bring myself not to wear tights in the absolute heat of summer. Similarly, I have finally managed to ditch my need to wear a jacket at all times but only if I'm wearing something particularly smart/structured instead....

SenecaFallsRedux · 27/05/2020 12:03

She's obviously a very driven, hard-working woman and perhaps something of a perfectionist - what's wrong with that? Men with those traits are lauded.

Exactly. And she built a very successful business from a kernel of an idea. Again, something that is universally admired in men.

thisenglishlife · 27/05/2020 12:26

And I'm sorry but "There goes their morning school runs as the responsibilities on them now are enormous" makes it sound like they'll now be working 12 hour days. They do 1-2 Zoom calls each week
Kate has done 8 Zoom calls (media mentioned) and we're in the tenth week of lockdown, so it's 0.8 Zoom calls a week (so far). Although, I agree with @justasking111 that she is probably doing other work.

What was her best Zoom look?
Red print LK Bennett dress, blue print Altuzarra dress, Raey yellow print dress, yellow Zara jumper, plain red LK Bennett dress, stripy jumper, Tabitha Webb blue and white chevron jumper or blue print Boden dress?

Also, poor Kate (Matt H) - "Of course she’s smiling and dressing appropriately but she doesn’t want this." 😂

She is boosting the sales of clothing in a small limited way for the UK, which has to be good.

AngelaScandal · 27/05/2020 12:40

That was a horrible Tatler piece.

BlingLoving · 27/05/2020 13:00

My usually dazzling google skills are letting me down - is there a link to the full Tatler piece?

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/05/2020 13:26

Ask and ye shall receive @BlingLoving!

This is it @BlingLoving :

I wouldn't bother though!

BlingLoving · 27/05/2020 13:38

‘Kate is one of us in the sense that all her friends are Sloanes and aristocrats,’ says one of her group. ‘She’s very much decided that that’s her tribe, even though she wasn’t actually born into that background.’

With friends like these, who needs enemies?

LadyEloise · 27/05/2020 13:56

I agree BlingLoving .
Talk about a back handed "compliment"
