Op have you checked which settings you can use? When I took my stones in I was quite limited by the choice (independent jewellers) as they had a book I could pick from but couldn't do what I had in my head.

By cheap, I'm sure the real thing doesn't look cheap I just think it sits with all the stacking ring styles at the moment and I'd avoid it if possible (1)

ReginaGeorgeous · 06/04/2020 08:17

1 is really pretty. I think 2 looks dated.

Krazynights34 · 06/04/2020 08:32

2 - gorgeous

1 is more elegant, much prefer it to the second one.

Mascotte · 06/04/2020 09:21

I like 2 better but I’m quite a vintagey person.

I also agree with the pp who said to consider what would suit your fingers. I don’t like the style of 1 on mine very much. I also prefer flatter rings (technical term).

I don't like the line of stones on 1 at all

PeterFoggsTractor · 06/04/2020 09:45

I prefer 1. Number 2 looks like the diamonds should be closer together, the collet and claws are very clunky and 1980s.

I prefer 1, agree with PPs that 2 looks a bit dated.

timetest · 06/04/2020 11:46

I prefer the vintage look of the second.

Mines a Ceylon sapphire so a bit different, butt a friend made this with our set the other way. Don't know if you like it as an alternative?

But agree you may have to check what they are able to do with your stone and the cost. I've had 2 rings made from stones that were handed down to me - one was a ring in a gold setting which I had made into a silver one and one was a stone from a brooch. In both cases it cost a lot more than I expected and I couldn't quite have the design I wanted. That said, it's lovely to reuse your stones and have a really special piece made Smile

BubblesBuddy · 06/04/2020 13:39

If you want a ring made especially for you you must choose a jewellery expert with their own workshop. Not a high street jeweller. Any jeweller showing you a catalogue of designs is using a ready made factory and there are quite a lot of these. It keeps the price down. If you want your own design you must choose a craft jeweller or one with a workshop. It will cost you around £1000 to get your own design worked up though.

Design 2 you posted is straight out of the 70s. My original engagement ring was similar. Ring 1 is more modern. The fact jewellery changes in style allows people to date it! Victorian Jewellery is very different from 50s jewellery for example or the lighter designs of the Edwardian era.

BubblesBuddy · 06/04/2020 13:40

£1000 is for a ring in decent gold and a quality setting.

Blingismything · 06/04/2020 13:42

1, 2 looks as if it will catch on clothing etc.

Badoukas · 06/04/2020 14:08

2 is better but I dont like either.
