Buzz cut for infection control or wait till hairdressers reopen and get pixie cut?

I'm a nurse and I'm getting a bit obsessed with hair at the moment and what I might be bringing home in it.
We have to wash hair after every shift now and I have shoulder length permed hair so it's dry as hell.

I would really like to not have any hair right now but I'm also mildly worried about buzz cutting it as I'm not slim and have quite a round face. My hair does grow really fast so would be at pixie cut length in a month or 2 anyway.
In the perfect world I would go and get a short pixie cut but obviously that's not an option.
So opinions, a, buzz cut, b, wait for pixie cut, c, stop obsessing about something silly?

Op you look amazing 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Wolfcub · 05/04/2020 18:16

It looks fabulous op.

MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour · 05/04/2020 18:19

OP your hair before was lovely, but IMO your new short hair suits you much more. You look younger & it really shows the lovely shape of your face.

@sparklefarts - go for it, what's the worst that could happen. If you really hate it, wear a hat when you're out for a few months. Then get it cut properly when the hairdressers are open again.

I was pretty nervous before I cut mine... but I love it. So much easier, I can have my hair washed & dried in under 2 minutes. Plus, think of the money you'll save at the hairdresser!

Apolloanddaphne · 05/04/2020 18:24

It looks fantastic and really shows off your beautiful eyes.

coffeeandcreamer · 05/04/2020 18:25

Sigh. This thread has given me yet another reality check.

Thank you so much OP (and others on the front line) for doing what you are doing and making the sacrifices you make.

I feel so useless stuck at home doing nothing while you guys slog away. I've donated to a local hospital but I wish I could do more.

Thank you thank you again

Ps. Buzzcut looks great

TonytheDog · 05/04/2020 18:27

RoxytheRexy I've cut my short hair before just using my fingers as a 'guide' between my scalp and ends of hair, to end up with a pixie cut. I used to get DD, from about age 6, to cut the back with my fingers between the scalp and she cut the bits sticking above my fingers. Then I just randomly chop it in between or run the clippers over when it gets too uneven. I think you can still get clippers on Amazon though.

HealingCalmingSoothing · 05/04/2020 18:27

That looks brilliant!

Can I just ask though why you were so worried? Was your hair actually touching patients?

ditavonteesed · 05/04/2020 18:29

@RoxytheRexy I don't 5hink you could do it without clippers but not sure, maybe you tube will have some answers.

Thanks everyone I'm feeling really quite confident with it now. I sent my mum a pic but I phoned her first as I didn't want her to think I was having a breakdown.

It looks amazing and you are a complete legend.

ditavonteesed · 05/04/2020 18:31

@HealingCalmingSoothing 😂 of course not touching patients (sorry that gave me a really funny image) but defiantly getting breathed on when doing personal care.

Also a nurse here working in ICU, already had a really short pixie cut but I had my husband clipper it down even shorter so I don’t actually need to style it, literally wash and go, it’s fab!

Loving your hair, you look amazing!

Stay safe lovely

Talulahoopla · 05/04/2020 20:07

What a fantastic post. Lots of kind words and positivity here which is becoming more and more infrequent! The resilience and strength of nurses really astounds me, just getting on with life and doing your job without question or doubt. Then coming home and making such a brave decision to chop off all your hair.

You look great OP. Really brings out your eyes which are amazing. Well done 👏

Onekidnoclue · 05/04/2020 20:25

You look the bomb! Well done OP. Glad it’s a weight off Wink
