Dreamworld scenario - which of these two watches?

NemophilistRebel · 04/04/2020 19:40

Prior to COVID I had a bonus and was planning on saving some towards maternity leave and splurging a third of it on a watch that should last me and be a reminder of hard work and my two babies.

Now we are all up shit creek I still like to dream in case things ever get back to normal and I actually have money again that can be splurged.

So I decided on this specific brand for a few reasons and these are generally mid price range for the brand.

I wanted something timeless that I could wear in the day but wouldn’t look out of place in the evening.

(I’m case anyone suggests a Baby G as an alternative Grin)

The Dolce Vita without doubt. I’m enjoying looking at pretty things I don’t need and can’t afford at the moment, it’s refreshing having no temptation to buy for once ( don’t really need a new bag or shoes to wear to my garden or the bins!)

CardamomTea · 05/04/2020 07:08

I dont like them.

AmethystMoonShine · 05/04/2020 07:14

From those two I’d pick Dolce Vita.

TKAAHUARTG · 05/04/2020 07:15

First one. Both pretty boring though.

pontiouspilates · 05/04/2020 07:39

The Dolce Vita is lovely OP. Nice quality, not blingy and timeless.

MrsNoah2020 · 05/04/2020 07:47

I have a Longines and - sorry OP - I would never buy another. They're not a proper watch company, like Rolex etc. My Longines has lost time repeatedly and they have been useless at finding the problem - the warranty is very limited and they are not really interested in helping.

Like you, I was attracted to the mid-range price, but it was a false economy. If I ever get a luxe watch again, I will go for Rolex, Cartier etc, which look after their customers. In the meantime, I'm rocking my Skagen Wink

PrimeraVez · 05/04/2020 09:06

I would definitely chose the Dolce Vita. The face shape is a little bit cooler.

I'm currently poring over Celine bags. I was due a bonus this month and had planned on treating myself. But my entire role is currently hanging in the balance so for now, I'm stuck just looking at pictures!

NemophilistRebel · 06/04/2020 15:05

Longines is the second oldest watch company in the world and still make in house, so unsure why they wouldn’t be a real watch company?

Unfortunately my skagens are poor quality overall.
The cartier watches are definitely not ‘real’ in terms of horology as they are a designer jewellers name on a watch.
Rolex I wouldn’t give money to due to their practises of limiting supply to keep prices high.
I’m very impressed with Omegas and Tags but I wanted something a tad less recognisable this time round

@PrimeraVez hope you get to buy it one day

It’s still nice looking at images and dreaming though in the meantime Smile

They are owned by Swatch and have the customer service to match. And I'm not suggesting you buy a Skagen, just saying I am now happy with cheap & cheerful. I can't use my Longines because it loses time.

Look, I was just trying to be helpful and warn you, based on my experience. If you want to start a fight with someone on MN, perhaps make it someone who wasn't trying to help you?

NemophilistRebel · 06/04/2020 15:31

Wow, start a fight?!
What a strange place the beauty boards have become.

I ask for opinions on two watches I liked.

Hoped If I asked for opinions on 2 bags I liked I’d have people responding about the two bags too, not saying how mulberry/coach/Chanel are shot and to buy river island instead Confused

Swatch group also own Blancpain, Glassute, Omega, just like Rolex is part of a wider watch group too

I like the round faced one best. My grandad's Longines watch is still working beautifully 60+ years after he bought it, and he's been dead for the past 25 years.

GreyHare · 07/04/2020 00:16

I had a Dolce Vita and it kept good time and was/is a lovely classic watch but was just to dainty for me.

Reginabambina · 07/04/2020 00:20

The rectangular one looks daintier.

Chillichutney1 · 07/04/2020 10:59

I have the first one and it’s beautiful, very understated. Never had issues with time keeping and only had to service it once in the 10 years I’ve had it.

happytobemrsg · 07/04/2020 13:22

Would you consider a Tissot? You can get a lovely Swiss automatic for about £500+

happytobemrsg · 07/04/2020 13:24

Out of those two I think I prefer the first. I like the pop of the blue hands

Paddingtonthebear · 07/04/2020 13:29

I did a lot of watch shopping a few years ago, the Longines Dolce Vita was one I tried on but if I remember rightly it was a bit shiny for my liking. I thought at the start I wanted a Cartier but in the end I chose an Omega.

XingMing · 07/04/2020 16:24

My Longines watch is over 20 years old, and still keeps good time. It's similar to the Dolce Vita, but on a leather band. I prefer the rectangular face.

TerrorWig · 07/04/2020 16:35

I like the Dolce Vita best. If I were getting a round face I’d get a huge face!

ZaraW · 07/04/2020 19:47

I prefer the first one.

ZaraW · 07/04/2020 19:51

I have mid range watches Tag, Issey Miyake and Raymond Weil and am perfectly happy with them.
My local jeweler fits the batteries. No way I would pay £400-500 Rolex and Cartier charge for servicing.

Silversleeve · 08/04/2020 17:47

If my old one worked I wouldn't get a new one!
