I miss getting “dressed”

Obvs I’m still getting dressed but I’m not wearing my proper work clothes at home because I don’t need to and also I don’t want them to get too grubby when I’m on kid duty. But I miss thinking about what to wear and putting a nice outfit together. First world problems, I know, but in the same way a nice coffee was a treat, I enjoyed sorting out my clothes.

Anyone else?

Yes me!! I have already thought out my “return to the office” outfit.

Instead I am getting my style fix by ordering running gear!

Seems shallow in these testing times but keeps me happy.

Sarcelle · 28/03/2020 08:15

Yes. I can't stand winter clothes, so I love this time of year. I get much more stylish and love putting outfits together. However, now I am wearing the same jeans and thin jumper combos for outside (essential trips!) and the majority of the time what I called leisure bots and mangy t-shirts.

Sarcelle · 28/03/2020 08:17

I am not buying anything beauty or clothes related until this ends. I have no need of anything, and I don't want anything I buy to remind me of this shit time.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 28/03/2020 08:20

We dressed for dinner last night, and it was lovely to put on a nice dress. I even put mascara on for the first time in weeks 😆

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 28/03/2020 08:23

I'm living in leggings and shirts and dont give a shit! Embrace your inner slob

StCharlotte · 28/03/2020 08:26

I'm wfh (no DC - fortunately for once!). I'm a secretary with online dictation and am working my normal hours. The only way I can do it is to stick to my normal morning routine and wear my work clothes. I had a bit of a spree before all this and have even worn some new stuff this week. Even my colleague who's struggling to motivate herself has started to wear her work clothes.

Ask me again in Week 12 though!

cricketmum84 · 28/03/2020 08:48

Same here. I bought some gorgeous new boots just before lockdown and I haven't had chance to wear them yet!

I was looking at the Dorothy Perkins 70% off sale yesterday as clothes shopping always cheers me up but just didn't have the heart to order anything.

Floisme · 28/03/2020 09:13

I'm still doing it - not suited and booted but I'm wearing nice clothes. I like them and enjoy thinking about them, and I'm not wrestling with small children or pets so why wouldn't I?

Make up on the other hand I don't miss in the slightest. And I seem to have very different ideas from a lot of posters about what pampering means.

SouthWestmom · 28/03/2020 09:16

Oh brilliant to chat about this - I just said to dh I might order a new tracksuit bottomsBlush
I'd just bought an amazing new foundation and Timberland trench and can't bear to wear either as per a pp - for want any reminders of this time.

Benefits are that at least for now I'm not spending money on make up or clothes and an working through my statsh of samples from advent calendars

Letseatgrandma · 28/03/2020 09:17

It’s only been a week Grin.

I’m embracing the chaos-jeans very day and it’s great.

MoltoAgitato · 28/03/2020 09:23

I may need to up my casual gameGrin Cashmere jogging bottoms might become essential work wear!

I don’t have the heart to order anything either. Just before it all went crazy I ordered a Madewell tote on Shopbop which is apparently coming on Monday but I can’t bring myself to order online.

Might do the dress for dinner idea.

I'm dressing up every day.
Yesterday was land girl day because I was gardening.
Today is stepford wife day because I'm baking.
Tomorrow will be 90s grunge day as I am going to drink tonight.

1066vegan · 28/03/2020 09:57

I'm the complete opposite.

I've been into work every day (primary school teacher). We've had PE twice a day so I've been wearing my PE kit all day instead of having to find something smart to wear each morning and trying to make sure that I don't wear the same thing twice in the same week.

I love it!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/03/2020 10:42

We are having a family disco tonight, and getting dressed up for it. I'm going to wear a jumpsuit that I bought to wear for a 40th that didn't happen because of all this, and I'm going to paint my nails and wear make up. Smile

MoltonSilver · 28/03/2020 10:46

Formal Friday

user100987 · 28/03/2020 12:17

This may be a daft question but what do you think will happen fashion-wise after this? Spring/summer stuff has just come into shops and I brought a few bits as I was lucky to go to canaries just before things got really bad in the UK. If we are in various forms of social isolation for months on end I mean.

Icare1234 · 28/03/2020 12:22

Not a parent, WFH. I’m dressing as I would for the office. It means I have the same nice feeling of changing at the end of the day and leaving work behind.

OhTheRoses · 28/03/2020 12:23

I'm keeping the usual routine. Up at 6, shower, hair, work frock, make-up. It is video meeting after video meeting so it's essential to remain professional. Starting by 7.30/8am.

Imagine the sales will be good later in the spring.

ooooohbetty · 28/03/2020 12:29

Me too. I got changed and put some make up on last night to do a skype quiz with some friends.

Zinnia · 28/03/2020 12:46

I'm working from home office hours and have banned myself from jeans on weekdays; instead wearing wide-leg jersey trousers (of which I have a few), as comfy as joggers but smarter. I'd wear these to the office as well if I were going.

Shirts feel wrong but v neck cardis, buttoned up, or long-sleeve tops/ light jumpers put me into a "work" mindset which I'm finding really important at the moment. Have daily video calls too so still want to feel presentable, even though no-one else cares! I love planning my weekday clothes and it's part of keeping myself sane to carry on doing it.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/03/2020 14:25

I’m not wearing work clothes, but I am getting nicely dressed every day, and doing hair and makeup. Even if I only see DP and the cat if I have no video calls, it’s good for my mental health. I shut my laptop down at 5, and change into lounge wear then.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 28/03/2020 14:48

It's something I never thought I'd do, but I've just bought a second pair of naice yoga pants for everyday wear Shock. I'm wfh, juggling the children and trying to get out in the garden for a but every day so it's so much easier than a dress or trousers.

SouthWestmom · 28/03/2020 14:59

Just done the same from All Saints

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/03/2020 20:48

I am not wearing my usual work clothes and I am looking longingly at them every work day morning as I do like putting nice work outfits together every day. But I am still wearing nice clothes, just a bit more casual, and doing some hair and makeup. I am in Skype calls pretty much all day every work day at the moment, so tend to be smarter on the top half than the bottom! Do put heels on too sometimes, I love my heels

MoltoAgitato · 29/03/2020 08:33

MotherForkin and Noeuf where did you get the yoga pants from and what Did you get from All saints? The 25% off leather jackets is a bargain! I want some nice thick yoga pants.
