Been practically white sine I was 23, now early 50s. Any tips? I’m very dark so will be a dramatic change.

I think I might just go grey.

I'm going to use this as an opportunity to start growing mine out and see what happens. It will probably result in me hammering down the door of the hairdresser when they reopen but worth a shot!

Bluewavescrashing · 22/03/2020 12:29

OP the regrowth is a lovely shiny grey. Go for it and grow it out! You can always out a summer hat on it if it bothers you

Hugsgalore · 22/03/2020 12:32

I'd go for it too op. It looks like it will be a lovely colour when grown out.

I'm not bothering with mine at the minute, I'll see how it looks at the end of all this and make a decision then.

borntobequiet · 22/03/2020 12:43

I stopped colouring my hair 5 years ago in my early 60s and have had compliments ever since. It’s streaky silver in a longish inverted messy bob. My kids say it’s taken 10 years off my age, and people ask me if I dye it...

Fatted · 22/03/2020 12:47

Go for it OP. I tried to do it last year but caved after about 6-7 months. What put me off is the regrowth isn't all grey. The top is dark still with the underneath and sides growing in very light grey. Along with the dyed sections it just looked shit.

I'm still colouring through the Corona apocalypse. Maybe in six months time all my hair will be growing in white and then I might just grow it out!!

RedRed9 · 22/03/2020 12:52

That looks like a really nice white grey. Definitely go for it!

NorthEndGal · 22/03/2020 12:59

I stopped dying by hair 5 years ago, and it was the best thing ever. Saved money, time, environmental damage, and my hair is so much happier.
I think of my silvers as my glitter hair, adding that extra sparkleGrin

IAmNoAngel · 22/03/2020 13:04

That is a beautiful colour, go for it!

Nighttimefreedom · 22/03/2020 13:05

Look up grombre on pinterest for pictures. I'm doing mine.

I think I might just go grey.
LellyMcKelly · 22/03/2020 14:36

I started growing mine out about 10 months ago and I wish I’d done it years ago. Mine is about 30-40% grey I think, but my real colour matches my skin colour much better and my natural hair is so much healthier and smoother. I intend to go full ‘wild man of Borneo’!

I think I might just go grey.
Elouera · 22/03/2020 14:38

I use just a box colour at home.

Jillyhilly · 22/03/2020 14:52

I’m on board with this, good idea.Your hair is lovely. I’m not sure mine will come in so nice, but I can but try. It’s in horrible condition anyway from all the colouring so I’m trying to see this as an interesting opportunity to see how I look with my real colour at 52. Hopefully not too ancient!

LynnSchmob · 22/03/2020 14:54

I’m going to try to grow mine out. If I don’t like it I can always have it re-done. 🤷‍♀️

FrankieKnuckles · 22/03/2020 14:57

OP your hair is a beautiful silver colour! Definitely grow it out.

ComeOnGordon · 22/03/2020 15:00

Have you seen the photos on instagram by Jack Martin who coloured Sharon Osbourne’s hair - it’s inspirational. They all look so much better being grey

EraOfTheGrey · 22/03/2020 15:01

I grew mine out 3 years ago and I love the colour of my hair. I have a messy shoulder length bob and the very front of my hair is streaked with white. I still don't regret it and love jumping off the routine of 6 weekly root touchups.

The condition of my hair is also so much better. I also love being the only person I know in my 40's with grey/white hair.

OhTheRoses · 22/03/2020 15:02

I would but I'm silver at the front and dark at the back and it looks bloody awful. Usually have a half head of highlights and light brown every 6 weeks. 4 weeks in at present. Am hoping my haordresser might do a home service for long standing clients providing my houswhold and hers is well.

ElfrideSwancourt · 22/03/2020 15:07

I grew mine out as an experiment a couple of years ago - I really love it and the condition is soooo much better.

I put some Directions violet semi-permanent colour in my conditioner and mix it up - it stops any yellowing and gives it a hint of purple.

I get loads more compliments about it now than I ever did before.

Go for it - you won't regret it this is the perfect time!

catwithflowers · 22/03/2020 18:21

Going to do the same here. 😊

LizzieSiddal · 22/03/2020 18:30

I wish I’d seen this thread earlier because I’ve just dyed mine at home. I’ve wanted to go grey but haven’t the courage. A summer hat is a fab idea!

eosmum · 22/03/2020 22:10

Thanks for the support guys😊 think I’ll go for it, thankfully my hair grows really quickly, that’s only 3 weeks growth. Wish I could lighten it a bit but only the family will see it hopefully.

It looks like it will be a lovely colour

JaceLancs · 22/03/2020 23:08

I will be very interested to see how much grey I actually have!

TheFallenMadonna · 22/03/2020 23:11

I have also been completely white since 23 (started.at 16) and am going for it aged 49. My hairdresser is putting darker grey lowlights (is that a thing?) through to blend the white in a bit while it grows out. I actually can't wait now for it to grow out.
