Hello! This is week two of the EIGHTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's Sept
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

I have been reading this book, Happiness, lessons from a new science and happiness REALLY is important you know! I will summarise if Ic an when I've finished it.

Hello, been too busy to post much - today is a MAD day - let me give you my timetable, to try and get some sympathy - dh grunted when I outlined it to him...

7:00 - get up, make packed lunches, sort out book bag
8:00 - make ds1's breakfast (dd, bless her heart, at the age of just turned 4, makes her OWN breakfast - she just gets up, comes downstairs, gets her cereal, milk and an apple, eats them then comes back upstairs to play!).
8:45 - pack ds1 off to school with dh
9:00 - get dd, ds2 dressed, realise ds2 has not had breakfast, stuff him a hot cross bun to eat in car, pack swimming stuff
9:20 - leave for swimming, take dd and ds2 swimming which is changing marathon. Persuading dd to leave pool always a nightmare.
11:45 - get home, make lunch, eat lunch, feed ds2 lunch, clear lunch up from floor
1:00 - take dd to school
1:30 get home, try to put ds2 to bed, he screams for an hour.
3:00 - pack dd's gym kit, ds1's swimming kit, go to pick up said children from school
4:00 - dd's gymnastics class starts, other side of city, 15 mins drive
4:45 - drive back home
5:00 - make snack for children
5:30 - take ds1 to 6:00 swimming lesson, get him changed, sit boiling to death in swimming pool
6:30 - lesson ends, spend 30 mins explaining to receptionist why it should have been ds1's name on register, not dd...
7:00 - get home, make tea, put ds2 to bed, put dd to bed, give ds1 his supper....

And now I've got a couple of hours admin work to do.

I don't do anything being a SAHM you know...

tortoiseSHELL · 19/09/2007 20:26

batters - really hope your dd is better tomorrow

uptomyeyes · 19/09/2007 20:41

Another member of the aging cat club here - two cats aged 14 years, had them since they were 6 weeks old. My big ginger male cat took on a young fox the other evening and won! My nerves were shredded though as I rooted through the neighbours front garden in my pyjamas with a flashlight trying to extricate him from the fight.

Anyway in terms of bootcamp - after a motivating successful weekend I didn't exactly bomb, but I certainly wasn't maintaining my good run. I do struggle to do little more than survive mon - wed. eg I had peanut butter on toast for my dinner this evening.

I am looking after my skin and sleeping well. I probably need to set myself a weight loss target to crack the bad eating pattern.

WideWebWitch · 19/09/2007 21:26

Oh HELLO, there you all are! Sorry for not starting another thread, shall we just stay here until next Monday then?

Batters, yes, ds does get ulcers too although thankfully hasn't had any for a while but sympathy to your dd.

I've been rubbish. Nuff said.

Hello all. Just got back in from teaching my first class in FOUR years!! It was adult ed Spanish and a complete doddle after the carnage of a boys' comp.

Vera, my beloved cat was put to sleep yesterday evening and I feel utterly bereft. The house feels empty even though there are 4 people in it. I spent all yesterday bawling my eyes out so the effects of my youthful bob have been somewhat diminished by puffy, tear-stained eyes. When will it be OK to get a kitten? A catless house is too wierd.

Anyway, favourable comments on hair and my youthful, green sequinned Matalan shoes. My feet are now soft. Flexitol rocks!!

Saw someone I haven't seen for a while today and she said, " You look really good. You've lost loads of weight haven't you?" Boot camp rocks! (but of course the subtext is that I usually look like a minging old heifer. But hey, a compliment is a compliment?!) Keep up the good work ladies.

Hope your DD is better soon Batters.

smugmumofboys · 19/09/2007 21:48

Forgot to add that chilli made with quorn mince is really nice. I am a veggie and make it lots. Carnivorous friends had it recently at ours and really liked it. I use a chilli mix, onions, kidney beans, courgette, mushrooms , red pepper and a tin of toamtoes. Cook it all down in veggie stock instaed of oil. It's really low fat and tasty.

bamamama · 20/09/2007 01:52

Evening all. Smugmum, sorry to hear about dear old Vera (her (fab) name suggests she had a blue rinse and large tum.)
Batters - dd any better? Torty - the life of a sahm is indeed no picnic. If only we got paid for it
I was a veggie for 20 years until Christmas and to be honest I've not stopped eating meat since! Having previously been very fond of Quorn I now find it quite baffling. If you want a sausage, just eat one!
Bootcamp going well this week although I have fallen off the wagon cake wise...Still, I'm consistently having up to 5 days a week off the booze now so that's got to be good and I've arranged for my sister to send me over some No7 P&P so that's sorted.
www - have you finished that book yet? Any good?

lol batters! Today is a lot calmer!

Marina · 20/09/2007 11:22

So sorry about Vera smugmum We all cried for days when Lulu our family tabby finally left us for good - but you seem to have gone from 0-60 on bootcamping, well done
I was off with dd yesterday myself batters (very much other end of child IYSWIM) and am also gallumphing around with relief in the workplace too. I think torty's post from yesterday shows exactly what life with small children is like, and one of the few advantages of being an ambivalent and often unwilling WOTH is that you have no real choice but to nix inconveniently located gym lessons and such treats for your children
On a brighter note I am doing my power walk properly again (16,000 steps on Tuesday, 12,000 outside, 8,000 aerobic) and can recommend the new Manu Chao CD for stirring the stumps

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 20/09/2007 11:27

I've had far too many late nights this week - 3am, 2am, 1am - so tonight I'm aiming for midnight!

I've just done a 45 minute run and my legs ache already which indicates that by mid-afternoon I will be as stiff as a board.

Water & iron, food and skincare good. But I haven't used Flexitol for 2 days and therefore haven't updated my 'hideous feet thread'.

I'm sorry about Vera too - it's so sad to lose a long loved friend .

tortoiseSHELL · 20/09/2007 12:37

marina - hope dd is better today - I hate it when they're ill.

Failed miserably on bootcamp bedtimes last night -

think I need an EARLY EARLY night tonight!!!

Marina · 20/09/2007 12:46

I saw you mailing me on Facebook at 12.48 TS, hope the midnight oil consumption reaps dividends

smugmumofboys · 20/09/2007 12:59

Thank you all for your kind words about Vera. No tears today!

Just had soup and bread for lunch. Am about to bake cakes for NCT thing tomorrow and do a monster house clean before getting DS1 from school. So bye for now.

moonshine · 20/09/2007 17:41

Sorry to hear about Vera Smugsmum. Dcs and I would love a cat but dh is allergic to them.

Yesterday I prepared a fabulous roast for dh and me - chicken, baked spuds, gravy, brocolli and asparagus all lovingly cooking - then I remembered that dh was out on the razz so I ended up eating far, far too much.

In contrast did not get a chance to eat anything all day (apart from bowl of shreddies for breakfast) today and consequently stuffed face full of very, very wrong things when I got home. Still, am well moisturised, as always, and got some exercise dashing around being late. will try for an earlier night, but actually I really don;t like going to bed early (says she who usually falls asleep on the sofa in the evenings...)

uptomyeyes · 20/09/2007 20:30

Good evening ladies.
Smug mum about Vera but congratulations on getting back into work. Hope you enjoyed it. I know that feeling of spending time out of the maelstrom of a house full of boys.

I've had a reasonable bootcamp today, though I did just sneak a glass of champagne, slightly flat left over from my anniversary. I'm sure champagne is good for the skin you know.

I'm motivated by everybody elses fitness efforts so I am committed to exercising properly again this weekend and then trying to slot a mid week swim in somewhere in my life

Batters - I cannot bear mice and bearing in mind I've lived in the country nearly all my life I really shouldn't find myself still standing on a chair a la Tom and Jerry when I see one.... Our house will have been cat free for a year when we return and I know it's going to be overrun.
Bootcamp is going well. Went on another bike ride this afternoon and have perfected the technique of passing snacks to ds on the back!
Right, it's getting on for 7pm here. Time to open the door to Mr Shiraz. Enjoy the rest of your day everyone.

And yes. Where is Winne. Hope everything is ok.

uptomyeyes · 21/09/2007 17:23

Batters and Bamamama - do you know I think its is almost considered to be chic to have mice in some quarters around here. I myself struggle with that concept and prefer to keep cats and a brave husband as I also have a totally terrifying and outrageously disproportionate reaction if I even think there is a mouse in the house.

As for champagne - all those bubbles are surely oxy-regenerating, if not to the skin definitely to the liver. (Didn't Andrews liver salts work on that basis?)

Bootcamping rather well today, though I might drink a little too much over the weekend as my eldest ds turns 10yo and I feel like his young childhood has ended and we are entering a new phase.

Marina · 21/09/2007 17:32

Whizzing through like a lard-powered Halley's comet to say hello and yes, I've mailed winnie because I'm a little anxious too
