NOW this is EVEN MORE SERIOUS - WWW's 10 year younger six week boot camp, Week 2, Sept 07

WideWebWitch · 09/09/2007 21:29

Hello! This is week two of the EIGHTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's Sept
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

I have been reading this book, Happiness, lessons from a new science and happiness REALLY is important you know! I will summarise if Ic an when I've finished it.

Hi all. Www, yes I am in Australia hence my middle of the night posts! (I am going to bed early I find I cannot get past 10pm without collapsing). All going well bootcampwise. Went out for a bike ride with ds (15 months) yesterday only to get to the furthers possible point from home and the heavens open. Needless to say we got very soggy but the boy was still smiling so a success I think.
This is day 2 without a cake and I am appalled at how difficult it is! I give up smoking without a backwards glance but this is terrible! Sugar must be really addictive. Damn my sweet tooth.
Biggest benefit of bootcamping? Not drinking through the week. As many have said before me it is shocking how much better I feel...just wishing I wasn't looking forward to Friday night so much!

tigermoth · 11/09/2007 08:09

hello everyone. New bootcamp term begins
Am in a rush, but wanted to post something.

feetheart · 11/09/2007 10:56

Back again too, had planned to be super good last week but failed impressively! However BIG school started yesterday and a routine may just begin to be possible again!

Made it to the school gate yesterday for DD's first day but was too busy trying to encourage tearful DD to notice if I really was the oldest looking mum there (it has been one of my Bootcamp aims to NOT look like the oldest mum with a Reception-aged child even though I hit 45 last month )

Will need to think about how to get a bit more walking in now as the walk to school looks like it won't hit 5000 steps. Pre-school was 8,000 but only 3 times a week so it might even up [hopeful emoticon]

bagpuss - my only tip re w/e is to concentrate on happiness and overlook the rest

tortoiseSHELL · 11/09/2007 10:59

um, hello, um, good intentions, bad results last week - all chastisement richly deserved.

Am really determined this week (I know I said that last week), I REALLY am going to be a good bootcamper instead of a shockingly bad one.

How is everyone? Nice to see you back marina, glad you didn't stay away too long.

Had to take ds2 to childrens' hospital this am for an xray on his hip (HV being over cautious, but best to check), just to see if he had hip dysplasia. Will find out in a week or so, but this morning he SCREAMED the place down in abject terror of the machine, poor little thing. The whole hospital must have reverberated, as he has a VERY loud voice - Pavarotti has nothing on him....

Hope you all have a good week. Are we still going to think about a November meetup? (yes please..)

I am a dedicated lurker on these threads, have never had the courage to post until now. I would love to join in, is that possible even though it's week 2?

I found joe's goals the other day, and if, like me, you are the sort of person who likes charts and feels better if you have things written down, then you may find it useful. Feel free to ignore it if not.

  • use Olay with SPF15 every day
  • try to avoid booze in the week (sometimes don't try hard enough)
  • not so great on walking, although have just started a campaign of weekend walking with the dd's (did 7 miles with dd1 on Sun)- so many beautiful places round here. Need to get more in in the week, though.
  • rubbish on water, only manage about 75cl per day
  • body cream not v often, hand cream all the time, foot cream, have some flexitol, but not started using it
  • early bed, do try, but get sidetracked
  • eat healthily, hmmm, not too bad on this one, but could do better
  • be happy, generally am, bit stressed over money and issues at the moment, but not stopping me sleeping.

So I guess I need more cream, more exercise, more water and earlier nights...

at how long this is when I've barged in uninvited.

uptomyeyes · 11/09/2007 19:29

Welcome Emsiewill - I wouldn't worry about missing last week. I for one was less than stringent last week.
I've done reasonably well today.

Banana and cinnamon NoNo crackers for breakfast
salad box for lunch
1 coffee
(baclava - very small one, mid afternoon)
straight home to lamb chop and veg
No wine since sunday - can't match sobernow.

All else except walking achieved.

So getting better for me!

WideWebWitch · 11/09/2007 20:18

Emsiewill, you don't have to be invited, everyone is completely welcome, so welcome to you! If you're stressed about money, start a thread and I'll join you, we have just saved a PHENOMENAL amount in just 30 days from being ultra tight because we want to buy a house. We should have a new money saving tip thread. One of mine is that 43p hair conditioner (I've moved one up from the 29p one) is absolutely fine. It's been a revelation to me, this.

uptomyeye, baklava, omg, a SUGAR fest! Was it lovely? Otherwise sounds v good

Sobernow, wow, at no booze since Friday, that;s very impressive.

Ts, sorry about ds2, poor little thing but welcome back to bootcamp proper

Feetheart, ah at your dd.

Bamamama, I thought it was Oz, I agree about no booze during the week, I feel loads better for it. I REALLY want a glass of wine tonight but haven't done so far and it's not worth it now so I may make it to Thursday withut wine yet. (End of my week)

Not bad

2 pieces toast, butter, marmite
3 apples
grapes
couple of brazil nuts and walnuts
teeny homemade flapjack
homemade sandwich with tuna (mixed with light mayonnaise) cucumber, no butter
packet of Quavers, 100cal
2 hotdog rolls with those 1 of those poxy Helen Browning organic speedy sausages in each, with chargrilled vegetables and american mustard
plenty of water
no exercise AGAIN
no sunscreen

and feel inordinately grumpy this evening, walked in, loaded dishwasher, wiped surfaces, made lunches for me, dh and ds (don't normally do theirs, was feeling kind, usually do mine in the mornings), made supper, filed bills, checked emails AAAAGGGH
So, one of my money saving tips is get rid of your cleaner. But beware, it will wind you up having to do more, esp if you work ft oth. Dh did his share too (bathed SCREAMING dd for one thing) and so did ds (sorted all washing out, hung clean clothes etc) but I am pissed off with it and I WANT A GLASS OF WINE.

Nearly 12,000 steps today. Quite an early night - was deffo asleep by midnight. Lots of water & moisturiser. Too much coffee. And I kept being interupted by phone during my running 'window' so didn't go and now the DCs are in bed it's bloody dark. So I aim to do 20 minutes tomorrow morning and then see whether I can still run 3 miles on Thursday when DD2 is at preschool. I do like a plan!

Food very good so far today but I am starving so will probably cave in and have some cheese in a minute.

And now I have to do some WORK.

Evening all! I think I'm going to go teetotal because I feel sooo much better sans wine and actually felt a bit bleurgh after my Friday and Saturday night glasses. A step too far?

Need to get up and moving more. DS2 started pre-school this week so I have no excuses not to go out for a big walk.

Am off to bed earlier tonight as I keep being sucked into the 10 o'clock news and not getting upstairs until nearly 11.(By which time DH is spark out so no chance of any, ahem, 'exercise ' there. Sorry TMI)

I'm cleanerless as well www, because I was getting wound up about how crap they were, whilst knowing that they were actually quite good, it's just me being anally retentive. So today I cleaned the family room. That is, I stripped sofa and footstool covers to wash, dusted every surface of the clock (this one so quite a lot to dust, washed down all woodwork (4 doors, 2 windows, fitted shelves and skirting boards) de-cobwebbed cornicing, dusted ornaments/vases, polished windows, hoovered sofa and hoovered and mopped floor. I wonder why I can't find a cleaner to live up to my expectations....

Not enough water, but good apart from that. Did2.5 miles with dog, and jogged at least 1/3rd (I hate running and have no stamina so that is good) 20 minutes cardio and ab workout in gym this evening and the cleaning has to have burned some calories.
Ate well - granola (Jordans superfoods, it's lovely) then leftover cous-cous turned into tabbouleh-ish and tonight roasted monkfish on puy lentils. Not enough water yet, but still drinking, and about to go to bed.

WideWebWitch · 11/09/2007 23:05

Oh Prufrock, I was buying that Granola but alas it's too expensive in my new frugal world! Sympathy on cleaner

Am very admiring of Batters and Sobernow's crowns. None for me, had 2 glasses of red wine tonight (but lovely chat with dh and we watched another episode of Outnumbered, v funny) and going to bed NOW/

www - I know what you mean about longing for a glass of wine however I know that sadly I have little will power and between myself and dh the bottle would be polished off by the end of dinner and there would be some discussion about where might be open to purchase another . (I only drink about 5 units above the recommended amount per week btw before anyone starts pointing me in the direction of the dependant drinker threads) I have started putting my cake money away a la giving up smoking tactic. By the end of the month I will have saved a tidy bundle to buy myself someting nice! DoNB - how are the feet coming along? 12000 steps is pretty good - mind you all this walking means more flexitol!

SilentTerror · 12/09/2007 08:15

Not as good exercise wise this week,no biking, some walking!
Only one glass of wine in about a week though and plenty of water.
Have lost some weight though so can't be doing too badly, and the water def makes difference to my skin.

I bought some green tea yesterday to replace some of my normal tea breaks and to count towards my two litres (which are still proving a challenge).

I have realised with food that I set myself up to fail by buying things that I just know I won't be able to resist (yesterday I did a really healthy shop and then chucked in some Gu brownies which have now all gone!). So, my main focus for the rest of this week challenge is to come up with some healthy comfort food (thinking banana muffins made with sweetener- suggestions welcome) and to stop sabotaging my healthy eating.

TheDuchessOfFlashman · 12/09/2007 11:43

I was so busy writing report and MNing last night that I didn't have evening cheese & biscuits after all.

I ran my planned 20 minutes this morning, mostly cross-country and quite a lot up hill. Then I did 15mins aerobic leaping about. This helps with the water consumption - I've drunk a litre already. And I've taken my iron supplement.

Hi Bamamama - I did my feet 'a la uptomyeyes' and there is some improvement this morning. Will continue for the rest of the week. I'm not sure I can run AND have nice feet though!

Glad you got out on the bike with DS, even if you did get soaked. And good for him for not caring! Putting your cake money away is a good idea (but don't spend it on a really BIG cake at the end of the month)!!!

cerys · 12/09/2007 11:55

Morning everyone! Hi emsiewill (she is one of the few Mumsnetters I have actually met, although it was in 2003....!)

Lost another 3lbs this week so am pleased, if a bit surprised. Exercise going well, still need to sort out feet, going to bed early and comfort eating.

Duchess, IKWYM about running and nice feet being an unlikely combination!

Better dash, have to pick DS up from playgroup and have just seen the time

winnie · 12/09/2007 16:54

I am still here and keeping at it. Did 15000 steps yesterday.

However had horrific events to deal with at weekend thanks to dd's 'dad'. Police involvement and a family in trauma mean I daren't write anything here I left him 16 years ago and he is still impacting on our lives

TheDuchessOfFlashman · 12/09/2007 17:02

Oh Winnie I am sorry, that sounds pretty awful. Well done for sticking to bootcamp, 15,000 steps is excellent.

Having been saintly all day, I am now in a rush to get to parents induction evening at 7pm. So several pizzas are in the oven as I speak...!
