Now that the Commonwealth event is nearly over, we have another treat ahead of us. Maxima in Indonesia!

In light of what happened on the previous thread, I'm going to take a leaf out of Elizabeth SMT Holmes' book and say critique the clothes and the styling but not the physical appearances of various royal women.

I was growing my hair longer for my wedding but given that probably won't be happening this year I'm a bit stuck now. But I won't really be going out anywhere beyond the supermarket for the foreseeable future so I guess it doesn't really matter!

I really really wish I’d done my eyebrows but I hadn’t been well & now won’t be able to. I’ve decided that I’m letting them grow out & then can go for a new shape when it’s all over.

My DH is a builder on site, self employed, still working for now. I'm at home with a DD 6 year old (now off school), a DD 21 year old (work has shut down) DD22 year old who is still at work as a key worker and DM who is 84 and thinks we should all be going on as usual basically Hmm

I'm already missing the quiet of an hour in the salon and a wander round the shops. Simple, normal life, when it returns, will feel like paradise.

Horsemad · 23/03/2020 19:27

Mine too @alliwantisagoodnightssleep. I usually get my roots done every 6 weeks. Oh dear...! 😆

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 23/03/2020 19:52

Horsemad I’m trying to console myself with the fact that when this is over I am going to treat myself. Unfortunately for me that will be in 14 weeks!

Horsemad · 23/03/2020 20:27

I'm debating whether to do mine myself - have never dyed my hair myself. Scared!! 😆😆

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/03/2020 20:31

I don't need to but I might have to once this is over!

Lovely photo of Eugenie taken by Sarah on the day of the wedding. Sarah posted it as Eugenie has just turned 30.

Aaah, that pic is gorgeous. 👑

MotherofPearl · 23/03/2020 22:57

I keep on top of my roots myself with a Clairol kit, and think I need to seriously stock up for the weeks ahead. I dread to think how I'd look after even a few weeks of no touch ups!

iknowimcoming · 24/03/2020 08:31

Dd (20) and I were discussing dyeing our hair purple and pink respectively yesterday- after all no one will see it except us and if it goes wrong no one will see it except us Grin

BlingLoving · 24/03/2020 08:41

@iknowimcoming - that's actually a great idea.

As a veteran of home.colour - I do the salon mostly but at various times in my life due to busyness or finances I have done home colouring - my tips are:

  1. Choose a colour that is close to your natural colour if possible. It's much easier to do a good job with a shade or two darker than with a major change.
  1. If possible, use semi perm. It might ot be as good on grey coverage but easier to get right.
  1. You can leave semi perm in for lo get than the package says. My hairdresser told me it's ok at home to leave on for another 5 mins or so if you find that the recommended time doesn't give you the coverage you want.
  1. If you buy the cheaper , supermarket or pharmacy branded ones, the quality is surprisingly similar BUT.... they dont go as far. So unless your hair is above your shoulders, you will need 2 boxes. I n which case just buy the better more expensive ones.

Sorry, off topic.somewhat!!!

iknowimcoming · 24/03/2020 09:06

Thanks @BlingLoving! Good tips and dd has very long hair so she would need three packs probably which I wouldn't have thought of! Mind you I just had a quick look at boots and Superdrug and they are both totally sold out of pink and purple so it seems we are not the only ones with that idea damnit!

iknowimcoming · 24/03/2020 09:08

Will we have any instagram photos of Kate in six weeks with grey roots and scary eyebrows, looking stressed as she homeschools her 3 I wonder?

BlingLoving · 24/03/2020 09:58

Honestly, I suspect kate was born to homeschool her kids. She'd be one of those irritating women with daily plans, that she sticks to, while getting lots of interesting creative ideas and input for and from them.

And of course, her huge garden won't hurt. I assume they'll have gone to Amner.

[Note, this sounds negative about her. It's not. I wish this was me! hahaha]

Becles · 24/03/2020 10:07

Don't forget that they have two nannies and other staff.

Time with kids, large grounds but able to hide in the bathroom when stressed. Best of all worlds Grin

BlingLoving · 24/03/2020 10:57

Well I bloody well hope that they've sent the nannies home. Nanny maria may stay as considered part of the family but overall, the bulk of their personal staff shouldn't be there.

Laiste · 24/03/2020 11:11

Interesting about personal staff. How do they keep within guidelines? If the staff are coming and going from home ?

QueenOfTheAndals · 24/03/2020 11:13

Wouldn't they (and indeed the other royals) mainly have staff who live in?

OP posts:
BlingLoving · 24/03/2020 13:58

but even staff who live in would usually have time off. So I'm struggling to understand why, for example, a cleaner would still be coming to Amner to help out. Like the rest of us, surely said cleaner/housekeeper should be at home. And live in staff might choose to stay and be part of the household, but then they'll be in lockdown so I would think only staff who are truly part of the family would take this option?

The sense I've always got is that William and Kate do have domestic staff but it's not like they have 100s of footmen and maids, all of whom work full time and are live in (which may well be the case at Windsor or Buckingham Palace). So I'd expect them to act like any other family with domestic help and mostly send them home except in exceptional circumstances eg when help are live in and perhaps can't get home or don't want to.

Gooseysgirl · 24/03/2020 20:48

They better bloody not have gone to Anmer!!! Weren't the Norfolk politicians going nuts about people coming to stay in their 'second homes' and putting the NHS under added pressure in those areas. Very poor example to be setting if they are there Hmm

theschoolonthehill · 24/03/2020 22:13

So I'm struggling to understand why, for example, a cleaner would still be coming

I would not assume the 'staff' would be told to stay at home. Far from it. DH told me yesterday his mum was in her (very normal house) on the phone to him as she was 'staying out of the way of the cleaner who had come in to do a deep clean'.

I was disgusted. PIL are elderly but very active. They live in a standard semi detached family home and use the kitchen, bedroom, upstairs and downstairs bathroom only. They have NO need for a cleaner at the best of times, never mind now.

AppleKatie · 24/03/2020 22:16

I’m not sure the use of Anmer and access to helicopters and private physicians is quite what the govt means about not going to second homes and becoming a drain on resources... it’s not really comparable.

I assume they have a housekeeper, nanny, PA etc isolating as part of their household. They still get time off but spend it watching Netflix in their quarters like the rest of us are doing for the forseeable.

SenecaFallsRedux · 24/03/2020 23:04

As a welcome diversion, I've been enjoying the online course on the history of royal fashion that Queen linked to earlier. Interesting factoid: Jane Seymour forbade her ladies to wear the French hood made popular by Anne Boleyn.

mathanxiety · 25/03/2020 06:12

One of my DDs decided on my recommendation to do that course too and is loving it.

Many thanks!
