I have dreamed of one forever. No idea how much they cost have always guessed a few grand so can anyone tell me??

The classic black (possibly settle for navy) quilted bag. Doesn’t need to be huge like would want to fit purse, phone, keys a few bits in. My boss had one that was too small she has to take her key ring off to fit her keys in.

You all need to kill this dream for me so I stop thinking about it Grin

Boy bag around £3k. 2.55 more in £4-£5k range....you could get a lovely bench for that though WinkSmile

HarrietBasset · 05/03/2020 11:59

I bought a black double flap chanel bag for my 40th....it was £3800. Ive wanted one forever and bloody love it. This was 3 years ago, they do hold their value well but they are eye wateringly expensive. I can easily fit my keys/purse/phone in.

Chanel handbag

@harriet 😍😍😍 this has not helped!

@sleepwhenidie I know it is ridiculous but they are just sooo gorgeous.

I have wanted one for the last 10 years at least. I could now afford one but it’s more of a can I spend that on one item.
It was going to be my you have made it through treatment present but it just seems ludicrous to spend that amount of money on myself.

I wanted one of these for years. I can highly recommend horses as a technique to stop you craving or having any available funds to purchase nice bags.

  • You don't have time to use a bag and barely remember a wallet
  • you rarely get the opportunity to use it because you don't go out
  • you're filthy all the time and live in scruffy clothes anyway
  • all your money is invested in a new wing at the local vet school and your vet's massive house. Grin
puppymouse · 05/03/2020 12:17

I spent nearly the same as @HarrietBasset did on my 40th but instead I bought an Ifor Williams trailer and went to the Outer Hebrides for 5 days because I hate people.

Good times Blush

humsnet · 05/03/2020 12:31

How’s your mortgage and pension planning looking? If you're sorted with a home of your own and investments to support you in old age, spend what you like on what you want.

HarrietBasset · 05/03/2020 13:00

I could sell it for the same or possibly more than I paid for it now which reassures me when feeling guilty!
I admit i did have slight palpitations when handing my card over in the chanel boutique....they gave me a glass of champagne and then spent 30 minutes wrapping it into a hundred boxes/bags/tissue
I went across the road for a stiff drink after!

crochetmonkey74 · 05/03/2020 13:09

I have the 2:55 and it is gorgeous - I wanted it for 20 years - glad I got it but I must say I pictured using it every day but I don't - it's fantastic and I love it but it is heavy and I have to scale back what I carry to fit it all in

EdithHope · 05/03/2020 13:11

You are my people! I too have yearned for one for many many years (all my adult life?)

I could theoretically afford one like Harriet's but not if I'm sensible and follow humsnet's thinking. Damn.

I love the idea of a trailer and and alone-ness though, I think puppy has it right!

But I still want a bag.Blush

Ihavenoidewhatsgoingon · 05/03/2020 13:16

I have the large classic one - it fits a lot but I don’t use it everyday

checkedcloth · 05/03/2020 13:34

Similar here.

I yearn for a Vintage Medium Classic Double Flap - they go for about £2.6k.

Maybe for my 50th in 7 years.....

Darlingsleepthief · 05/03/2020 13:37

I have the wallet on a chain plus the boy bag, get it you won’t regret it!

GingerBeverage · 05/03/2020 13:39

Whatever you do don't visit the purse forum chanel area...

BillyAndTheSillies · 05/03/2020 13:49

I'm a bit addicted to Chanel. Three bags at last count but since their recent price increases I refuse to buy new.

Bought my black, small classic flap three years ago now, think it was 4k? I've used it three or four times because I went with lamb, not caviar and don't want it to scratch.

I definitely take care of my Chanel's a lot better than my other bags, they 100% always get stuffed after use and always end up in their dust bags, not just littering my house.

Sagradafamiliar · 05/03/2020 15:04

Buy it, OP!

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 05/03/2020 15:11

I’m afraid I always assume they are fake when I see women with them. Unless it was someone who I know is really wealthy, ie dressed head to toe in designer gear and who is generally chic & glamourous.

My hairdresser has a really good fake one and you literally can’t tell the difference between that and the real one (not saying I’d buy a fake, I hate fake bags/clothes).

I wouldn’t buy one unless I could totally afford it. I could afford one but I just wouldn’t feel comfortable spending that on a bag. Also I don’t go out that often so my mulberrys are more suited to my lifestyle!

crochetmonkey74 · 05/03/2020 15:16

I am glad of this as I do not look wealthy, chic or glamorous at all but I have a Chanel bag and a very expensive diamond ring that I tell everyone is fake but is actually very well insured as it is real.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 05/03/2020 17:18

I got mine for my 40th as well. I don’t know how much it was as I didn’t pay for it. DH did.
I have a black double flap in a small I think. Well it looks smaller than the picture above. Plus it has gold hardware. I feel really ungrateful saying this but I would have chosen silver hardware as it goes with more of my jewellery and outfits.

Mine is a touch too small for my purse and phone. So I just use a cardholder and a coin purse. I have a large purse so it’s too big for most evening bags.

I must also admit that as much as I love it it’s a very grown up bag and I still feel too young at 43 for it. Plus I do think other people probably think it’s a fake and I don’t have that worry when I use other designer bags that I own.

Sagradafamiliar · 05/03/2020 17:51

People might think your Mulberrys are fake though BetteDavis if you don't get out much. They might think you wouldn't bother spending on them 🤷🏻‍♀️

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 05/03/2020 18:04

Yes but mulberry’s are more affordable is what I mean. Not many people would sink £3k on a small leather handbag. Also I think the fake mulberry’s look fake whereas the fake chanel’s it’s harder to tell.
I usually assume they’re fake when you see someone in say, a high street outfit with a Chanel handbag.

People who don’t know me may well think my handbags are fake, who knows what they think - it doesn’t worry me. I just buy them because they’re good quality everyday bags and I like the look!

Hissinggoose · 05/03/2020 21:12

I finally bit the bullet and bought a preloved Jumbo classic flap in lambskin this year from Vestiare Collective - not quite as expensive as brand new, but still a little Shock when my most expensive bag before was a Mulberry! It was a dual reward for getting a great job I thought I’d never, ever get and leaving a horrid job that had ground me down. I carry it proudly as often as I can now, regardless of what I’m wearing Grin

Londonborncatty · 05/03/2020 21:17

Have you considered pre loved. There are some good deals about if you do your research. The only negative is that they are heavy bags, so for me, no good as an everyday bag.

Squiffy01 · 05/03/2020 21:57

@Londonborncatty I wouldn’t mind getting preloved at all. Just worried about it not being real and would also want to see in person make sure I’m inlove before purchase rather than just buy online.

@BillyAndTheSillies does one type scratch more than the other??? Haven’t actually done any proper research yet as it’s always just been a bit of a dream.

@ShesGotBetteDavisEyes I don’t care if people think it is fake to be honest. I would be getting it for my love of it so don’t really care what other people think of it.

Good to know they are heavy as do hate a heavy handbag.
It wouldn’t be an everyday bag as I have an 18mth old and he certainly wouldn’t be touching it Grin and when I go back to work when better I am certainly not in a Chanel handbag friendly job! So would be weekend and evening.

Lots of comments above to think about. Thanks all

No, it’s ludicrous to spend that amount of money on a bag! I spent that amount in a new bathroom.
