What beauty item can you not live without?

I’m sure this has already been done but I’m new here Grin

I saw a thread last week about what beauty products you had wasted money on, so wanted to reverse it and see what are the Best Buy’s you’ve ever made. Can be cheap as anything or a splurge!

Mine would be-
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hans cream. I’ve been using it for about ten years and no other hand cream comes close for me. It absorbed instantly and doesn’t leave my hands greasy or sticky

Any Anastasia Beverly Hills eye shadow- pricey but I took a risk on this and it’s hands down the best eye shadows I’ve ever bought. Heavily pigmented, excellent range of colors, really easy to blend and has staying power

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle perfume/body wash/lotion- this is my ‘special occasion’ perfume. It’s soooo expensive but when you layer everything up, it really lasts all day/evening. I wore it on my wedding day and loved it. I used cheaper perfumes day-to-day (though still branded perfumes so we’re not talking Superdrug’s own budget brand) and I never find they last as well as the Chanel.

Botega Veneta perfumes. Heavenly!

Good mascara. Can vary from L’Oreal to Chanel.

A lovely nailpolish for my toenails in the summer. I usually buy Essie Angora Cardi. OPI I’m not really a waitress is lovely too.

Lipstick, any kind. Although if I had to choose it would be Revlon's Fuchsia Fusion, MAC's Stallion (sadly discontinued but the best black lipstick I've ever used) and Morange, a decent red, and some funky colours like blue, green, purple and grey (both NYX and Kiko have those bases covered.)

SapphireSeptember · 04/03/2020 15:34

Disclaimer, I own a LOT of lipsticks in loads of different colours, a few of MAC's and NYX's collections have been treasure troves to me over the past few years as funky colours have become more mainstream, and I have bought lots of nice things. This is me thinking about what I'd buy first if I ever lost all my make-up, horrible thought. Sad

xJune88 · 04/03/2020 15:37

Primer smash box photo finish or NYX do an amazing dupe which is in the same packaging

Aveeno moisturiser, amazing for all the family

Rimmel 25hr foundation, I've found it's the same as double wear but a fraction of the price

Bondi sands 1 hour Express, pricey but amazing colour, coverage and perfect when you have a baby

Following to pinch other people's finds

Hi folks

I'm desperate looking for a good replacement for Vita Liberata Self Tanning Moisture Mask. I loved this because I'm a lazy caaah so could just stick it on before bed a few times a week, it's lovely and moisturising so I didn't miss night cream on top, was subtle and didn't have that horrid burnt biscuit smell so many fake tans have. It was about £24 and as a little went a long way it easily did me two summers (it was great to decant some into a small tub and I used it every other night on holiday and kept my face in together shade).

I've been looking at fake tans for my face but there's so much choice I don't want to make any expensive mistakes so if there are any products popular with MNers I'd rather take a chance that way.

Anyway, back to OPs question ....

Autograph eye pencils - got one in an advent calendar and loved it. Soft, sharpens well and Colin lasts the day even in my greasy lids.

Sainsbury's own brand miscellar water - £2 for a huge bottle, as good as Garnier.

I also discovered Primark eye brow pencils recently. As good as an expensive one and about £1.

Looking at my list I've realised I have cheapskate tendencies Grin

shadyzadie · 04/03/2020 16:13

Things I've been using for the last few years and always replace:

Pixi Glow tonic
Armani luminous silk foundation
Dead Sea spa magic body lotion (rich but not greasy, no strong smell)
Coconut oil as a hot cloth cleanser

More recent discoveries that I can't see me giving up anytime soon:

Elizabeth Arden retinol capsules (use every other night to manage the cost)
Rejuvenated collagen drink (amazing for my skin, but costing me £43 a month Confused)

LilyJade · 04/03/2020 16:16

Clinique superfine liner for brows in soft blonde

Boots No7 protect & perfect spf15 day cream

shadyzadie · 04/03/2020 16:16

Oh and Dior Nail Glow! I don't do fancy nails and it keeps them looking respectable without too much effort.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/03/2020 16:32

Spf 50 mineral sunblock.

SecretWitch · 04/03/2020 16:55

Ostagazuzulum · 04/03/2020 17:11

IT cosmetics CC cream
Fenty translucent powder
Benefit goof proof eyebrow pencil
Klairs deep cleansing oil
Aldi moisturiser (I've just bought an expensive one and it's no where near as good as aldi one!)
Benefit hoola bronzer
Loreal paradise mascara. Lasts a 10 hour shift out in the elements. Always go back to it!

AdoraBell · 04/03/2020 17:17

Perfume- Givenchy 111
Mascara - Lancôme
Skin care - Clarins

I like Chanel make up, especially lipsticks, but could get by with a cheap lip salve and I’m not overly fussed about eye shadow.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 04/03/2020 17:19

Agree with shady about nail glow, I love it although oddly it peels after a few days but my nails look amazing while it's on. I also like lip glow and always replace it (wait for offers/extra points type things to try and offset the cost). Currently I use the pink universal one but I fancy trying the plum one. As I'm epically crap at picking a lipstick that doesn't either make my teeth glow yellow or make my lips look seriously thin, I wear the stuff daily so need one that gives the impression of lipstick.

WellTidy · 04/03/2020 17:20

Benefit Coralista blusher
Benefit they’re real mascara
Estée Lauder day wear light foundation
Garnier micellar water
Estée Lauder day wear moisturiser for dry skin
Estée Lauder advanced night repair serum
Estée Lauder cafe latte lipstick (long discontinued and I can’t get it at all anymore, even for a premium price. I am gutted)
Bar soap - any with a fig fragrance

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/03/2020 17:32

Sadiesnakes · 05/03/2020 07:33

Dior Lip glow oil, in Cassis I think?
Lanolips Golden dry skin salve, all over. So many uses, lips, hands, face after over doing tret.
Hylamide pore delete.
Lush BIG shampoo, my hair has never been so shiny.
Biotin, my nails and hair growing twice as fast as ever.
Crest white strips.

ICJump · 05/03/2020 07:44

Blinc tubing mascara. I have nice. Long eyelashes normal that's just puts colour on a d comes off with water.
Chapstick rose tint it's just enough colour to wear all the time and I double it up as blush
Mecca 2 in 1 foundation concealer easy to use can build coverage.

Hannahlouise4026 · 05/03/2020 07:51

I don’t tend to repurchase much as I like to try stuff, but I love all of these -

Benefit roller lash
Nars creamy concealer (although I’ve just ordered the Tarte one to try)
Beauty Pie lip liners
Beauty Pie Plantastic cleansing balm

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/03/2020 08:18

Mascara, currently a Charlotte tilbury one I absolutely love. And a decent brow pencil, current one is max factor.

NotStayingIn · 05/03/2020 08:28

Collagen powder. My skin is much softer and less dry since I started using it. Not just on my face obviously but everywhere.

WeCameToDance · 05/03/2020 08:54

Eyeshadow palettes. They are my achilles heel. My favourite at the minute is my Kat Von D Lolita por Vida palette but I’ve just been gifted a Huda beauty mini palette so it could change. I’ve never tried any Huda eyeshadows before.
I also love the kiehls midnight recovery cleansing oil. Not fussed on much else from that range but that stuff is incredible on my skin.
