Previous thread

What will tomorrow bring for Kate? Does her love for green know no end?

And Thursday night sees the return of Meghan! I know she can be polarising so let's stick to just discussing her clothes rather than the intricacies of Megxit. There's plenty of other threads to do that!

It was very similar, @NoGravyForYou, but not identical. I think the red cape bit was narrower than on the blue, and it had that shawl effect bit over the shoulders (which I love, so elegant).

Both of them were fab dresses though, downright regal.

NoGravyForYou · 09/03/2020 10:28

The shawl effect is a much better way of describing it than how I did to someone in RL at the weekend " a capey bit dangling over her shoulder " 🙈🙈🙈🙈

ElspethFlashman · 09/03/2020 11:13

theschoolonthehill if you'd like to point out any time on this thread I've said anything against Meghan that was below the belt, please do.

Otherwise please leave me out of it and stop being a cow to other posters.

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/03/2020 11:18

The service is at 2.15 today so we should see the royals arrive around 2 pm.

Oh bums I'll be out on the school run then 😭😂

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/03/2020 11:45

If Kate and William hadn't had their children, but had adopted a child would that child be next in line to the throne after William?

Adopted children can't inherit the throne. They also generally can't inherit titles of nobility as letters patent usually say "heirs . . . of the body." For example, the actor/producer Christopher Guest, husband of Jamie Lee Curtis, is Baron Haden-Guest in the peerage of the UK. His children are adopted so his heir is his brother.

BlingLoving · 09/03/2020 12:12

@SenecaFallsRedux - it's all about the blood, innit? Grin

Am working at home so figure I can turn on the TV from around 13:30 and hopefully see everyone arriving. The only time I've spotted awkward body language on one of these events is a similar one in a church where Andrew arrived first, bounded up the steps to meet and greet then realised he had to stand around awkwardly to wait for the others to precede him (in this case, I think it was William, Harry and Meghan). He didn't look comfortable. YOu'd have thought after all these years he'd have been used to it but this was before the latest furore and I'm not sure at that point I was aware of how favoured he is by the queen privately.

NoGravyForYou · 09/03/2020 12:13

Just read that H&M won't be walking through the abbey with the rest of the senior royals, I suppose it's so the body language experts can't analyse every movement and glance. Can't say I blame them.

theschoolonthehill · 09/03/2020 12:15

Fair enough. I expect they don’t want the scrutiny of any headlines about ‘Harry’s last outing with his family’ or who was walking beside who rubbish. Will we see what Meghan wears at all?

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/03/2020 12:17

Edward and Sophie won't be walking through the abbey with the senior royals either. I guess that's just for those in direct line of succession.

OP posts:
itswinetime · 09/03/2020 12:36

Apparently Harry and Meghan aren't in the procession this year they will walk in and be seated straight away with Sophie and Edward.

I can see they don't want everyone focusing on when the Cambridge's and Sussex's meet and examining the body language but I'm not sure by avoiding interaction completely there will be any less stories.

itswinetime · 09/03/2020 12:37

Sorry crossed posts with all of should refresh before I post obviously Blush

justasking111 · 09/03/2020 12:44

Damned if they damned if they don`t. I personally think it is churlish of someone probably a grey man to say it was not the done thing. They are family above all else who are also still in line to the throne. You can bet the cameras will be on Harry and Meghan anyway which will detract from the occasion.

They are well rid of the grey men to be honest.

latedecember1963 · 09/03/2020 12:56

Thank you, Senneca. 😊

NoGravyForYou · 09/03/2020 13:12

Would a monarch be able to change the rules around adoption? Surely at some point there will be an heir/monarch who is unable to have children and will adopt?

NoGravyForYou · 09/03/2020 13:17

Oh goodness now W&K will not be walking either. Is this usual??

BlingLoving · 09/03/2020 13:21

If I was Kate, I wouldn't want to walk. Knowing that my crazy fans would use it to slap and deride my SIL and that my SIL's crazy fans would use it to deride me. I suspect she's thrilled to skip the whole thing. Ditto Meghan and Harry. I do so hope that they are able to build and maintain normal relationships with each other even in all of this.

NoGravyForYou · 09/03/2020 13:23

I actually agree. They will be pitted against each other no matter what.

Spudlet · 09/03/2020 13:23

That’s good - it means H&M don’t stick out. I’d like to think it’s a decision they’ve made as a gesture of support. I hope it is!

itswinetime · 09/03/2020 13:26

Oh goodness now W&K will not be walking either. Is this usual??

Really that surprises it makes sense that way there is no accusation of Harry and Meghan being pushed out but I think they have always been in the processions in the past.

Would a monarch be able to change the rules around adoption? Surely at some point there will be an heir/monarch who is unable to have children and will adopt?

The queen changed the rules about succession before George was born didn't she so that the first born would inherit male or female? So in theory they can change them wether they would or not is another question. I would like to think we live in a society day and age where it wouldn't matter and they could just change the rules and it would all be fine but in reality I think it would open a can of worms about blood line and the right of someone to rule and seeing how much grief women (in particular) who marry in get I would hate to think what would happen to a child being adopted would have to go through.

hopeishere · 09/03/2020 13:28

@nogravyforyou where did you see Kate and William won't be walking?

AdaColeman · 09/03/2020 13:29

What would be the point though, in having an adopted child as heir/monarch?

Spudlet · 09/03/2020 13:30

@hopeishere The BBC are reporting it.

hopeishere · 09/03/2020 13:31

Just saw in the DM that they won't walk either.

AdaColeman · 09/03/2020 13:31

@hopeishere the BBC mention it.
